Social Warfare Users - Can I and how do I exclude share buttons on certain pages? For example I don't want these on any of my legal pages e.g Privacy page etc.

Thanks

Not sure if this means anything but I have some pages such as the Privacy page set in full width screen so on those particular pages, my social icons do not show up.

Mine are also set up as full width but the buttons still show but thanks for trying. :)

Darn! What plug in are you using? I am using the Ultimate Social Media one (which does have a few quirks). For instance, I have Instagram as one of my platforms which shows in the settings but not on my website).

Hope you find the answer soon :).

Not sure either Mark. Hope you find your answer. I know there are some social venues I just can't see myself getting on board with. They don't fit what I represent.

Thanks Xavier.

OMG! Am I having a blonde moment? Social Warfare? Is it really called that? LOL

Ha ha yes the plugin name is. :)

Sorry Mark, not got a clue.

Thanks Edwin.

If you choose the setting none/manual placement for pages under display options you can insert share buttons via shortcode on the pages you want.

Thanks Jorn. I'll give the a try.

I am with Steven-A because I am not sure how you would do that but we will wait for the answers to come through

Hi Mary, see Jorn's tip above. The code to us is [social_warfare]

I guess I just did not know what that meant about social_warfare

Nice question,

Thanks.

Haven't a clue, interested in finding out.

See Jorn's reponse.

good question I'll be interested in the responses

Jorn had the best idea although for some reason it displays my icon colors in the theme accent color which I din't want so I've just abandoned the idea for now. Too much else to do. :)

I have read all of the excellent posts and training here about being GDPR compliant.

I have implemented two actions I believed would be sufficient to be compliant based

at a glance it seems you are not considering double optins and unsubscribe, also unclear if you updated your google analytics, seems you focused on cookies and not the full definition of collecting personal data I'll be doing another blog on this later, but they should put in the picture for starters

I received a Google email that seemed (to this newbie) as though they were keeping us abreast of what is happening.

Did anyone else receive this same email late last week?

they been sending us out a lot of emails that look the same, I did a training and blog on two of them, which one are you referring to, I'll be doing another blog on the others but google actually wants us to take action, they are not looking after things in the background across the board

Hi Mary,

I did do the Google Analytics Accept Amendment Walk Through & a GDPR checklist. Followed your training on that, thanks. I feel like I need some kind of tool that does everything that's required to make a website compliant. According to CookieBot's online compliance checker it is not, despite doing what I thought was required. Thanks for the links. I'll soldier on...

I hope it is okay to share this since we are all in the same boat. This is the beginning of Google's email regarding clearer language
on their Privacy Policy:

"This month, we’re updating our Privacy Policy to make it easier for you to understand what information we collect and why we collect it. We’ve also taken steps to improve our Privacy Checkup and other controls we provide to safeguard your data and protect your privacy.
Nothing is changing about your current settings or how your information is processed. Rather, we’ve improved the way we describe our practices and how we explain the options you have to update, manage, export, and delete your data.
We’re making these updates as new data protection regulations come into effect in the European Union, and we’re taking the opportunity to make improvements for Google users around the world.

Thanks Donna. I have been getting quite a few policy update emails and they all seem to say a very similar thing.

I would like to know the answer to this also.

It's obviously not as straight forward as I thought. One can't do what you think is sufficient as that won't help you if you run into trouble. One has to know for sure and that does not seem to be easy to achieve.

I am not sure on this but I want to see what people have to say.

I want to be compliant of course but I also want to avoid unnecessary action and expense, which I am sure is true for all of us.

So very true. I wish there was an exact answer in black and white no ifs ands or buts!

Slugger you post this to our help area.

Lat's see what the experts recommend Peter.

Sgreed.... That I part of why I s ent you there

Hi Mark
Wow, I would also have thought you have done a great deal... Hmmm... I am also now eager to hear what else needs to be done and to hear more about CookieBot.
Thanks for asking the question Mark! This is what makes this community so amazing.
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

Thanks Sharlee. I am eager to get it right but also not to over do it. :)

Yes, I fully agree with you Mark. I also want to comply, but without all the shiny stuff that every proclaimed (or self-proclaimed) "guru" is trying to peddle in the process, feeding off our eagerness to comply.
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

good question

Hello Mark. I used Loes and MozMary's tutorials. If its good enough for them its good enough for me. I am done thinking about it as I spent a lot of time on this.
Trevor

I have followed those tutorials as well and thought I had implemented what Loes recommends on my website but there seems to be more I am missing. I agree like you that I have spent enough time on this already but when it comes to the law we each have to take full responsibility for what we have or haven't done so I think it's worth checking.

Hey Mark. I also upgraded my privacy policy. There must be an official document somewhere describing the necessary actions. That should be researched.
Trevor

Mark maybe you will find this interesting.

Thanks Trevor. I'll give that a read. Like you I am a bit over how time consuming this is becoming. :)

I am going to follow this as I am curious about the CookieBot.

I hope we all learn more and gets things clarified.

I am a silent interested party. Reason is am less informed in these matters. I am eagerly following your discussions please.

Good idea Kwamina.

I want to know and understand clearly what's all about cookiebot.

Me too James.

Yes I know..only one? Yes for the purposes of this question. You should aim to have as few plugins as possible so if WP said you can only keep one... which would it be, and why

Oh, all of them answered "All In One SEO".

I am supposed to be the same...

Just to be different from the others, mine is Pretty Link. It helps me fix 404 "not found" errors in my site through its 301 permanent redirect.

Always fine to be different Gomer. :) Pretty Links is a great plugin too.

Now that there's an overwhelming response recommending All In One SEO plugin, I wonder what's in the mind of Yoasts users.

Yes I was surprised that there were no Yoast users myself. I always thought it was as popular as All in One.

There are features in Yoast that I like, like for example, the readability checker. But there are parts of Yoast that I really hate, like its insistence that I should sprinkle my content with my keyword to a certain level like 4% (keyword density). I was about to ask them why they advocate such an obsolete principle, when I read a blog post by them saying it's just there to help people come up with a focus keyword and not really for the percentage. If that's the case, then they should revise it. I wonder why they keep such an obsolete feature in their interface.

I agree it should be removed since it's teaching people the wrong way and in the end they will just be penalized by Google. Have you heard of Squirrly or tried it? I heard about it this past week and it looks interesting but need to look at it more closely and see whether it really can improve my SEO.

I'm sorry, it's only now from you that I heard about it. I will try search for it.

All good. Just wondered whether you had heard about it.

I would have to say the All in One plugin because it seems to indicate that it contains all we will need. I have yet to see that yet. Great questions Mark.

Cheers

Thanks Xavier!

Hello Mark!

I would also say All In One SEO.
So many things included in this plugin and saves time.

If I may do like Sharlee and tell about a second plugin, I think the social share plugin is great. A handy way of driving traffic to our sites.
:-)

Hi Pernilla,

Yes I agree it's hard to choose one and those are two areas I would focus on too - SEO and Social sharing

Thanks for the response. :)

Hi Mark
[wink] Just because I refuse to let me be limited to only one, I'll give you two! ;-) LOL! You may have the honor to decide in which order you want to rank them! ;-) LOL!
• SEO -- I prefer All-in-one SEO

Wishing you all of the very best!
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

If I really really have to pick, All in one SEO as well. It's our marketing tool.

Would you please tell me more about comment approved...

Ha --

Hi Haroda

Yes, for me it is a tough call between All-in-one and any of the Comment approved plugins.

A Comment approved plugin sends an email to somebody who has commented on your website, to let them know that you have approved their comment.

Often people would leave a comment, but because they have stumbled upon your website by chance, they wouldn't know to go back and check whether there was a reply or not.

So by having a comment approved plugin, you entice people,
1) who already was on your blog,
2) who already cared enough to make a comment,
3) to come back
4) and to continue the conversation.
Thus the vital interaction which we all crave and which Google awards. :-)

Just yesterday I remembered about a website that I visited in December last year. When I went to check, the website owner replied to my comment and asked me a question in return, which I sadly only discovered yesterday. I liked her website and she's a brilliant writer, I would have loved to have had more interaction with her. If I only knew... But as it goes, we are all busy and I totally forgot about her website, until yesterday. If she had such a plugin, she would have gained many comments from me, that is for sure.

Please make sure to first test all plugins on a Test Website first, so that you don't break your live website.
You can look at "Lightweight Subscribe to Comments", "Email Subscriber + Newsletter", "Subscribe to Comments Reloaded". Maybe our lovely members will have some more suggestions about the plugins which they use. ;-)

Hope this helps Haroda!
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

I agree with this answer.
Life witbout an seo plug in or a visitor engagement tool would be a real struggle.

Thank you for your support Glenys! ;-)
[wink] Mark... Will you allow me to twist your arm for two plugins? ;-) LOL!

This is an excellent explanation!

Sharlee, it would be wonderful if you could make a post out of this. Then more people would learn about this awesome tool. You've explained it all so very well.

:-)

Awww, thank you Pernilla!
[blush] Okay, I will do so. ;-)

Ha ha Sharlee... I love it. Those are both great. All in one SEO is a firm favorite. :)

Thanks Ha and for asking the additional question. This is how we all learn more. :)

Nice Sharlee and good points about finding ways to bring people back and continuing the conversation. I like it. :)

Yeah look I knew I was being cheeky with asking for one but it makes things challenging and more interesting. I am sure the majority would all go with SEO as first choice. :)

Well said Pernilla There you go Sharlee... a bonus idea from my question ... a post for you to write... When can we expect that? LOL

I use that plugin as well. I think it is nice to send them a note saying its been approved. That way they are reminded to go back and see what you wrote.

I was looking for something like this... This is perfect. I was wondering about it as well. I thought by default that we receive a follow up email. I was wrong. Thank you for sharing.

It's my pleasure. Thank you for noticing. I love the interactions.

LOL! [wink] You are a tough negotiator Mark! :-) No pressure right? :-) LOL! Is Sunday, my time good enough? :-) LOL!

Ha ha, no pressure S, for sure but I look forward to the post when it's ready. :)

~Mark :)

Hi Mark, I didn't quite make it for Sunday my time, but I think I am still in time for Sunday your time? ;-) Anyway, it is live. Thank you for your encouragement! ;-)
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

Hi Sharlee, I've read your post which is awesome and left a comment and taken action so just look at the influence you've had. Thanks for writing the post. It was just as good as I thought it would be. :)

~Mark :)

Hi Mark
[blush] Thank you very much for your kind words Mark! Much appreciated!
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

Not a fair question Mark. First, you have the option to have at least 5, maybe more, with no effect on the site. Second. there are plug-ins that you use for a while and then remove because they've outlived their their purpose or a better function plug-in is available. Third, most of us, me included, don't know enough to make a really informed decision of choosing just one.
You should expectmost to say optimization plug-ins.

Ha ha.. Steven, I get the feeling you don't want to make a choice of one. It's a bit like the plane's going down and you can only take one of your family members who would it be... not that easy. :)

You can't.

You need some sort of SEO and the image optimizer at a minimum - that's 2 and why WA includes them in the site back-end.

Then you need whatever plug-ins it takes to make your site work the way you want to work.

So, unless you build and integrate the functionality in the code one plugin is not a viable option.

Jimmy's right. All in 1 SEO came to mind immediately!

The firm favorite Mike. And everybody has said All in One SEO not any other alternative SEO plugin either.

Is it the All-In-One SEO?

Good choice Jimmy. :)

Do you really want to limit my plugins?
And to think I have always been nice to you!

Great thanks Melissa. I see we are quite unanimous here that this would be the best one to keep. Thankfully it's not a choice we have to make for real. :)

I have added all versions of my site to the console. All other pages are complete but one always comes back as a redirect. When I look at the details it redirects to the origin

The URL you've given is
https://bloggingmap.com/bloggingmap.com/digital-marketer-lab-review
The correct URL would be:
https://bloggingmap.com/digital-marketer-lab-review
Somehow or other you've put your domain name in twice.

Hey Marion, You are right of of course!!!!! I obviously copied the whole link instead of just the part I needed. The funny thing is I did this three times, and three times got it wrong. And even when I checked it I didn't see it! Sometimes we are so busy we just can't see clearly anymore. Thanks so much. Such a silly mistake!! Much appreciated.

I asked support about this and they told me not to worry about it.

How so Steven? I will but as a perfectionist it kills me... LOL

there were a few comments about site speed - one about redirects, one about javascript, and another about something I can't remember right now. I sent support a screen capture of the report and asked what to do. They responded they checked the site and said it responded fine.

Thanks Steve. As it turns out mine was a silly error which Marion spotted. :)

Yup I see it double domain name.

Hey Mark,

Thanks Trish. Great idea. Just added one. :)

Ahhh... it looks to me that your HTTP version may now be redirected to HTTPS version, which, if you have added a certificate to your website, is what you want it to be.

Hope this explains it and helps you.

Thanks Trish.

Why do I get a redirect for a single page - google fetch?

Why do I get a redirect for a single page - google fetch?

I started a Twitter account in 2009 when I was doing other things.

(Mark Baker @marcus_baker) Currently I have 13.2K following me and 11.6K followers.

To be ho

With that amount of followers, I would hold on to it and use it to tweet about the new website.

Great. Thanks Harvey!

I would hold onto it sort of in an incognito way could be one option. With everything that is happening I don't blame you for being cautious. It also makes me wonder about my FB page and what, if any , repercussions there maybe. Good luck with that, hope it works out for you.

Thanks Xavier. Appreciate the response.

Mark, the same boat as me, though thanks to the training here, I understand it more.

It is a realtime information, microblogging social network, so in terms of blogs and such like I beleive it has a 'fit' which works well for things like Discounts and such. That said, like you I have posted a variety of hopefully good stuff on it, including links

What works best in my experience of using it, is social media posts, wordpress posts and stuff like that, they increase your followers and some get engagement on them as well

With the hep of a couple of Chrome Toolbar add ons I plan to make more use of my own account there and ideally it will lead to optins for here

Hopefully that will help you, I have had more than one account, but use my main one which has just under 2k Following me.

Keep it!

Thanks Dave. :) That makes sense. I didn't want to waste a good following but I also didn't want to waste my time on a following that might not bite because it has grown organically from different directions and is obviously quite scattered in focus. Appreciate your advice.

Understand where your coming from and your dilema, I decided to focus on the one account, as its in my own name, the posts on it through diverse have been around the same kind of topic

I found having more than one account, very distracting, as I didn't know which area I should focus on, having the one makes it easier

That said, when people get to the 2k mark, I believe they have to have abother account anyway, or is that not right thinking

Like you I am also partial to doing it all in one place otherwise I too find myself scattered.

Because this is such an old account, which is why it has the large followers and following numbers it does but they changed all this some time ago. As you say I think there is a maximum number now.

I have not tried recently but when I last tried I was unable to follow anybody new because of this so that might just mean I will have to start a new account anyway if I want to follow others. I'm going to give it my attention this weekend. :)

Yep just checked with Twitter and I can't follow anybody else now. 5000 per account is the limit. Think I may be slightly over... LOL

Thanks for the reply Mark, yes you might be over by 1 or 2 so the question has answered itself effectively which is good for you

Thanks for sharing the Twitter limits though, very helpful

Hi, Mark

Here is my opinion:

1. You can keep it as personal use
2. Create new one and link to your website
3. If you are ok with keeping personal as business as well that's ok too.

To be able to get more traffic to your website.
Hope it helps. Good luck!

Sham

Good answer

Thanks Sham, Yep two accounts might be the way like you suggest.

Anytime. Thanks

Great question and thanks for asking it! the answers here are very helpful and have helped me too!
Cheers - Orion

Thanks Orion. We all learn this way. :)

Definitely utilize it, you can drive a ton of traffic if you use it right and of course depending on your niche. Here's just a quick screenshot of clicks that I was mostly getting from Twitter. Conversions are not so great, but there is definitely value... especially with 13K plus followers (there's a ton of value and potential there).

I've since let up on Twitter to isolate and focus more on blog traffic and conversions but I still actively build my following and brand and will get more aggressive with it eventually :-)

Hi, J-KWest

I have a question for you,
To be able to get more traffic, what exactly you need to do?

My website has given rank 200,
How do I make my page on top page?

I am not getting paid
What do I do more to reach to get paid?

need help
Thanks
Sham

Thanks. Wow that's a good lot of clicks. Like you say with 13K even if I can tap a very small percentage it's worthwhile.

Absolutely Mark... and your content reaches further than those 13K when someone retweets your posts. I also heard something interesting on a podcast once... everyone is targeting to their niche. But people have more than one interest so it's good to go outside of your niche where you don't have any competition. It's not advice I'd take if I was paying for it... but with your following you can experiment quite a bit and see if there's any gold out there :-)

Hi Sham, I've made so many mistakes and changed directions so many times trying to find something that works... the best advice I can give is to stick to the training; to what Kyle, Jay, Carson, and the successful members and mentors who have been here for awhile teach.

I can't count the hours I've put in... how my life revolves around this and yet I've watched people who started after me and are now much farther ahead...

The big difference is that they stuck to the training while I messed around with different strategies because I heard some "guru" say it on a podcast, or I joined someone's list and bought the products they were promoting on the "what if" it was the secret. It cost me a ton of time and money (although I can take from it a learning experience). I'm still trying to undo a lot of the mess and get myself back on track here at WA.

Meanwhile those who are succeeding here are doing so because they stuck to the training.

My only other advice would be patience and persistence. It simply takes time for your website to mature, to start moving up the rankings. You can help it along with strong keyword research and quality content... but there is no short cut. (or at least not one that I've found... and unfortunately I went looking) :-)

Great. Since I have the numbers and set up to experiment with that it might make a good case study. Thanks for the idea. I'll keep track of everything with that in mind. :)

That's invaluable advice Jay. I've heard it before and that's for a very good reason. :)

From what I have learned from a mentor, Twitter is your "loud place marketing". If people have tweeted you before, retweet those. Do utilize it to inspire other people. E.g. A photo quote for people to retweet again and again. You want something that people would want to share or retweet. :) I hope this helps.

Thanks Kimko. I like that.

Start a business account.

Thanks and why is that a good idea Elizabeth?

Utilize all of your existing followers that make sense for your business account.

OK Thanks.

Hi Mark, it's worth it bringing in traffic!

Also posting gets you 'out there'.

I wrote a few blog posts about what I have learned if you want to check them out.

I got 2 referrals through Twitter and one from Pinterest. I don't have a WA website but a banner on my sidebar.

Robert has a tutorial that will help, I used it when I joined a few weeks ago. You have an awesome start with your followers!

It now has analytics I have screenshots of what it looks like in my blog The problem I found was that most of the information here at WA and in Google searches were outdated. Social media constantly changes.

If you need help PM me :)

Thanks Patsy. I will definitely look at the links. Much appreciated. You're so right about how fast social media moves. It's a bit overwhelming. I'll def PM you if I have questions. Will be giving this some attention in the next few days. :)

You are welcome.

Don't get overwhelmed just take your time, you have lots of followers. All you need to do is post your stuff and 'like'/share others. I always retweet fellow member's tweets to help get them out there.

Appreciate your advice Patsy. I am such a social media 'baby'. :)

Haha, big baby!

Go for it! Just don’t become a spammer! Do a mix of somewhat personal and business. If you already have a good following, take advantage.
All the best,
Marcus
