Hi, it's great to meet you, my name is Marion and I live in Adelaide Australia.

marionblackonline.com

Everyone should have a "main hustle" and a "side hustle". My main hustle is affiliate marketing. My side hustle is creating video courses. "The Plan" is to make my side hustle my main hustle. So if I'm not around Wealthy Affiliate as much as I used to be it's because I'm working on my side hustle.

If you don't like your "main hustle" then develop your "side hustle" to the point where it can become your "main hustle" and ditch your job.

I love my main hustle but I love my side hustle more.

I'm an entrepreneur. I launched my first "real" business - with paid advertising in the local newspaper - over 50 years ago when I was a teenager. I've always embodied that entrepreneurial spirit. I've had lots of start ups since then. Some successful, some not quite. But I'll never give up. They've all been part of the learning experience.

I've been messing around with computers for more than 30 years. I started programming on a Commodore 64 (hands up if you remember them). Then I switched to PCs.

Using a dial-up internet connection I created my first website using HTML in 2002 to promote my software programs. The website is still in existence but it's not mobile-friendly and I just keep it for nostalgic reasons. I don't write programs/apps any more.

These days I get a buzz from helping my WA friends. I have created lots of tutorials and videos to answer questions so please check out my training section. Click the blue 'View MarionBlack's Training' button on the bottom-right of this page. Or go to https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/training-by-marion-black-sorted for the cataloged version.

If YOU need any extra help just leave a message in the comments section below. I'm always happy to respond. If I don't know the answer to your question then I'll point you in the right direction.

Hi Marion, good to meet you. I loved reading your profile and finding out how you are growing yourself!

May I ask you a question? It talks about backing up your WordPress site. When I looked there were many ways to do this but I do not know much about these things. I would like something that is automatic. How do you choose the best way? I would like to have advice on this. I have come along way on this my first day of real work on Wealthy Affiliate, but not as far as I wanted. There is still much I do not understand.

Thank you for any input and everyone else too. I am grateful!

Site Support do automatic backups but it's not possible for members to set up automatic backups on websites hosted here. We have to do manual backups if we want to take responsibility for our own business assets.

Hey, Marion, thanks for the follow. I'll be following you, too. You've been into this for quite awhile. I'm sure I'll be calling on your expertise in the near future. I actually took some computer science classes back 30 some odd years ago. I remember learning about DOS and Lotus 123. (Wow! Now I really feel old) I never lost interest but family comes first, I just didn't have enough time to do both. Now the kids are all on their own, so here I am again, starting from scratch. I believe this is the place to grow. So I'm giving it all I've got to get there by the time I retire. I'll get there.

Thanks again for the pain I'll probably be.

Hi, Marion!

I was just searching on WA for something completely unrelated and came across your Udemy announcement. Did you market that and make a go of it? What was the experience like? .... and was it worth it? If you have a follow-up blog about it, please - I'd love the link.

Hope you are doing well!

Hi Marion, Thank you for reaching out. You will be appreciated in the days to come. I am looking forward to this journey and want to make it my own. I am stumbling a bit at present trying to create my first worthwhile post. Once it is published, it is out there, and I cannot seem to write what I want to write just yet. I seem to be stuck in self pity mode as opposed to information mode. Working through it. Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

Hello Marion, thanks for sharing your bio. It's very interesting. My first computer was the Tandy TRS 80. Did a little programming in Basic on it. I'm looking to find a few side hustles to replace my main hustle. Also, thank you for all the content you created. I cannot wait to go through it.

Thank you Marion..I would love it if you could answer my question that I've been thinking about. You stated that you've belonged to WA for sometime.

My question is : Have you been successful with affiliate marketing? It seems you can go in many directions with your interests. If you are getting the traffic and things are clicking, why consider secondary hustle?

Would you mind passing on your website address, as to check out your style and generally pump me up.

Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate. I'm sure you'll enjoy learning about building an affiliate website.

Like most people, my main hustle is what brings in the money, my side hustle is what I enjoy doing more.

My main website is marionblackonline.com. You'll find members' websites at the bottom of the right-hand column on their profile page. You need to be following the person to see them and not everyone lists their websites there.

Hi Marion, nice to meet you, too!

YES - *puts hand up enthusiastically* I was a C64 teenager - actually a Commodore 128D... remember those? They had a DOS mode, a 64 mode and 128 mode? I also recall, earlier on, what a lark our first online connection to a DBBS in 1985 was. So much has changed online since then, but there are probably some human factors that never change... Have a great day! :)

I always follow people for a while before I actually follow them. This way I can confirm the relationship can be beneficial to both parties. Or if I like a new members profile and can sense they are here for the long haul and I can help them, then I will follow them too. I believe since we have control of the follow button that we should use it as a tool more than a courtesy, just my opinion.
Anyways, I love your answers to members, your videos are great and I could only hope to have the knowledge and strengths you demonstrate within the WA. If there's in anyway I might be of service to you, please hail at any time. I have a background in Social Media Management and being a very established bartender I have learned to analyze personality traits and desires of people in about 60 seconds of interaction. #HA@WA

Hi Marion, seemed to have lost contact after your most welcome assistance.

I went, as you suggested, to technical. They have moved all four of my sites, now safely in WA.

I have also directed the 'nameservers' to WA. so they are now active here.

I am trying to work out the sequence of transferring the domain names.

I know, I can take my time with these, so can you advise the sequence and how and when I pay the one year for the domain/s.

I have watched the video, and it appears that this takes when one presses the new site button.

Does the domain transfer need to be completed before the I complete the above, and pay a year in advance, though all my site are active until next year.

Thank you again for your assistance,

Tom.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
Stay away from the "new site" button. You won't want to delete your website by overwriting it with a new WordPress install.

Once your websites are hosted at WA there's no rush to transfer the registration of the domain name. When I was doing that for my sites I waited until about 4-6 weeks before each renewal was due and transferred the domain names then. Make sure you keep the registration details including email addresses up to date and you'll be fine.
Reply
TMcCaskie2 Premium
Thank you Marion, and thank you, as the allayer of the concern I was having with this button.

You have made it clear that there is no rush to re-register the domains, only to do so near the renewal date.

The sites themselves are fully functional, so I can continue to develop them.

Can I presume, when I transfer, I unlock domain, get code, I then introduce the code to WA., as the correct procedure.

Thank you again for your invaluable help,

Tom.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
I'm not sure where your domain names are registered but the procedure is similar for all registrars The nameservers will stay exactly the same as they are now, you don't need to change anything there. Changing domain name registrars does not affect the nameservers.

Marion,
I have a web domain that is stagnant and I might want to use it to rebuild. It is hosted. The index page is not relevant to my affiliate marketing idea however I could use a different landing page on the site.
Should my URL (WordPress URI) be only keywords that will generate traffic?
Thank you,
Katherine
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
It's the content that generates traffic not the URL. If you use the domain name as a landing page then you'll need to generate the traffic through advertising or other promotions.

Hi Marion,

I just followed your training on drop-down menus. It worked well until I went in to try to delete my categories down the side of my page. I tried deleting one and it removed the article completely from my website!!! I hadn't saved it anywhere so I have lost it. Obviously I don't want categories to show now as I have all the posts and pages up in my new drop-down menu. Can you tell me how I can get rid of my categories? Also the spot where the particular category was now says "Uncategorised".

Thank you.

Ouch! Don't delete the categories, just delete the category widget. Go to Appearance > Widgets and you'll see the Category widget in the sidebar. Click on the tiny triangle to open it and you'll find Delete at the bottom left.

Check to see if your post is still there. Go to Posts > All Posts and see if you can find it. Check the Trash can too because it may be in there.

Hi Marion, your profile is great. The only reason I haven't looked at before is that I'm still trying to work my way around the WA site. I am totally new to the whole concept of websites. It took me ages to be do something as simple as put a link on a FB page...... I get a bit frustrated with myself for not being able to pick up things as quickly as I would like and feel is sort of "2 steps forward, 1 step back" at the moment.

My aim was just to become an affiliate marketer, and I had no idea I would be setting up my niche so quickly so I had to think of something that I love on the hop.

I'm in Adelaide too. What suburb are you in? I'm in Plympton.

I have clicked to follow you and will be looking at your training too, in between completing the WA training. I have not worked in the corporate world for 4 weeks now but I will be starting a new contract next Tuesday 15 Aug which will unfortunately restrict my learning time.

You'll be OK Suzy.

WA is very much a spam and promotions free zone. You can put links to your social media and websites on your profile page at the bottom right under "Follow Me On". Otherwise only add links to your website when it's unavoidable such as when you're asking or answering a question and linking to the site is the only way to explain things.

Most of the time a screenshot will be better

Dear Marion,

I have a question that is way out of my depth. You will know the answer. I am still waiting for the magical traffic to pour in but I won't hold my breath.
In June, I had one great gush of subscribers and thought that might be the beginning of something.
How by the next week that had all dried up.

What did I do over those 3-4 days that drove in all this visitors? I tried to look back on those few days and what I had put out the. Is there a way to find out what post made them come to my site. I would do it again.

What do you think, gurulady?

Some websites are more relevant to a particular geographical area or country. Most websites are international. If your target audience reside in one country then that would be the target location. If your audience is international then don't choose a particular target location.

Yes, your example is a domain name. But I recommend that you look for a domain name that hasn't already been registered so you can get it for $13.99 instead of $2,395.00.

Hi Marion, I am not new to computers, but have struggled extensively to learn how to use them. I am much better at written languages. Even with the instructions I've seen on some of the videos, I have racked my brain to try and understand what the instruction is to build and create and blog and post and so on And so on....I learn better by being instructed while I follow along and do the work with someone. Unfortunately, my computer has been Down and the only thing I have is my IPad on which I can only work one screen at a time. So I have to watch, stop the video and then try the action on another screen then come back and replay over and over until I get it.

Marion, your profile alone is enough to motivate someone, not to mention all the blog posts and training. You and I must be kindred spirits of sorts, also started my first business in my teens, and have never looked back, always have worked for myself in one form or another. Is there any other way to live a happy and fulfilled life?

Hello Marion,
You Rock! I remember dial up for sure! I was the only one on the block, heck, probably at least a mile or so with a home PC. That was in the late 80's. My Engineer father in law used to give me all his old PC, and since it was a hobby, they were always fairly new. I hear ya!!! Good Luck.

Hi Marion,

Thank You so much for adding me to your “Following”!!!

I also worked on a Commodore 64 as well as the old IBM System 38. For the year 2000 fiasco with old computers I converted a 37 workstation Sys 38 network to Windows NT (got MS Certified to do that though). Great Times Eh???

I have seen a lot of programs over the last 4 years and this looks and feels right!!!

I would greatly appreciate it if you would please let me know if there are any important tips that you think a “Newbie” like I am to WA can benefit from!!!

Best Wishes for Your Continued Success!!!

Hi Marian. I am sorry I have been bothering you lately, but, I really love your training, somehow your way to teach seems like it gets through my thick head. I have a question. Why do we need a custom link menu? Thank you. I tell you the story about what I was doing and how I end up sending you this note with a question. For start, I am following your training that I have on my Desktop home page. The drag and drop Menu and unclickable head. I think is very easy to follow your tutorials. Thanks again for all the help.

The custom links in the menu can link to anywhere in the internet at your choice. Or you can link to nowhere and keep your visitors on the same page by using the # symbol instead of a URL.

Dear Marion. I recently got to promote, Honey Colony products. My problem is, they have so many products and I don't want to make my website so busy. So I was thinking that maybe I should do the parent page stuff. I am sorry, I am not that technical. Anyway, I did three pages with the main stuff that they have. So, now I was thinking to put 25 different categories on each page on child pages. I am not sure how you call it... I think doing like a link is not going to work because there are too many. These are products that I am talking about. Please help me, I am very confused. Thank you so much, Marion.

Hi Marion, just a quick question you may be able to help me with, do I need a separate Google + account for each website business, as my G+ account is in the name of my offline business which would not relate to a WA review site.
If so can you tell me how I go about this as when I go on google my business there doesn't seem to be anywhere to add another.

I think your business should have a Google Plus page instead of it being the account name. I have one account with Google and a separate page for each website.

Hi Marion.
I was approved by the Adsense team last month. In my Wordpress area, I clicked on Appearance, Widgets then dragged a new text box to the right hand side. Then pasted the Adsense code into the box and saved.

Since then my website has not displayed any ads and I wonder which steps I have left out?

I would appreciate your guidance.

Regards to you.

That's the code to get page level ads (don't ask, it's complicated). Go to Adsense and create a new ad. Get the code for the new ad and paste it into the text widget instead of the code that's there now. Remind me to have a look at your website tomorrow to see if the ad shows up.

Hi Marion

I revisited the email instructions from Adsense and pasted new code into my text widget. Have a look at the result:
panicattackcured.com

A couple of questions...
1.The ad is slightly positioned to the right and consequently, some of the text is missing. I have tried two size ads but this has not changed.
2. When the site is loaded on my desktop, the ad appears on the right-hand side, under all of my posts and archives. Is he best position?
When loaded on my mobile phone, it is the very last item that a user sees (if they bother scrolling this far!)

I would appreciate your comments.

Thanks, Marion.

MarionBlack Premium
I suggest you go back to Adsense and create a new ad. This time choose Responsive for the size and they will then only send ads which fit into the available space.

The best place to put Adsense ads is so that at least half of it is above the fold. They count impressions when at least 50% is visible for one continuous second.

Hi Marion. It is very nice to meet you.

I truly commend your ability to learn from your failed start ups in the past and see it as an opportunity for progress rather than a discouraging event. I strongly believe that is one of the marks of a great entrepreneur.

I have started my path to entrepreneurship this year. My main hustle is my chemical engineering degree, which I will hopefully finish up over the next two years. My side hustle is affiliate marketing, which I hope to work on for the next few years so that I can become financially independent and ditch my main hustle.

Hi Marion,
Many thanks for this tutorial and many others that I haven't yet been able to see.
You certainly are inspiring for me...wow, what an experience. I am a newbie on this "business" and I guess it might take a long time for me to get used to all this.
I have been following the very descriptive steps you tell us to insert a WA banner in sidebar widget and I could do with your help. I am stuck at some of the steps, as my computer doesn't always show the same options than the ones explained by you:
- To start with, I have no option to use the "incognito window" when clicking on the banner, thus unable to verify effectiveness
- Also, when pressing the "text" box when editing the post, to copy the text that should appear, no text comes up.
Grateful if you could help me to resolve the above.
Cheers,

An@

Boy, do I wish you lived in my neck of the woods and I could visit you and have some coffee. I'm Susan, I live in San Diego and I am very new at Web Pages. I was even looking for a book that would explain (Show me a picture) all the parts of a web page to me. Anyway, I just watched your training on tried adding WordPresses Panoramic Premium theme. The problem is that I can't find it now and when I go to my themes folder it not there. My page looks just like it did before I put the premium in. What I mean is that when I try to customize there's nothing new there. It looks the same as the free one did.

Boy, I hope I'm making myself clear I'm too old to get this flustered. HA! HA! HA!

I think I really messed up and went way beyond my skills. Is there any way to fix this.
