Hi, it's great to meet you, my name is Marion and I live in Adelaide Australia.

marionblackonline.com

Everyone should have a "main hustle" and a "side hustle". My main hustle is affiliate marketing. My side hustle is creating video courses. "The Plan" is to make my side hustle my main hustle. So if I'm not around Wealthy Affiliate as much as I used to be it's because I'm working on my side hustle.

If you don't like your "main hustle" then develop your "side hustle" to the point where it can become your "main hustle" and ditch your job.

I love my main hustle but I love my side hustle more.

I'm an entrepreneur. I launched my first "real" business - with paid advertising in the local newspaper - over 50 years ago when I was a teenager. I've always embodied that entrepreneurial spirit. I've had lots of start ups since then. Some successful, some not quite. But I'll never give up. They've all been part of the learning experience.

I've been messing around with computers for more than 30 years. I started programming on a Commodore 64 (hands up if you remember them). Then I switched to PCs.

Using a dial-up internet connection I created my first website using HTML in 2002 to promote my software programs. The website is still in existence but it's not mobile-friendly and I just keep it for nostalgic reasons. I don't write programs/apps any more.

These days I get a buzz from helping my WA friends. I have created lots of tutorials and videos to answer questions so please check out my training section. Click the blue 'View MarionBlack's Training' button on the bottom-right of this page. Or go to https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/training-by-marion-black-sorted for the cataloged version.

If YOU need any extra help just leave a message in the comments section below. I'm always happy to respond. If I don't know the answer to your question then I'll point you in the right direction.

Hello Marion,

Deem all to be well this evening. Please I have this nagging problem with my CSS code and I keep failing miserably as I could not get my navigation down from the top of my header to the bottom of the head.

Also I couldn't widened the header... I try to PM but that also failed... Please feel absolutely free to PM me; hopefully it works on your end.

Please here are the details...
Currently have the following Manually Add Sticky Floating Navigation Menu code

#site-navigation {
background:#fff;
height:60px;
z-index:170;
margin:0 auto;
border-bottom:1px solid #dadada;
width:100%;
position:fixed;
top:0;
left:0;
right:0;
text-align: center;
}

My problem now is the menu navigation is now at the very top of my header instead of the bottom of the header... I have try all sorts of additional coding to bring it down but not working... Would you please help me? Thank you in advance.

Hi Sidney,

When valid CSS doesn't work I add '!important' (exclamation mark important) just before the ';' (semi-colon). The other thing you could try is contacting your theme's support forum through wordpress.org.

Hi Marion so nice to meet you and read your bio. You sound just like me as I can relate to everything you said. My main hustle is my job which I've been trying to leave since I started a year ago and I'm building several side hustles online so I can be free to roam around the country. Right now I'm stuck in Hawaii on an island and my heart wants me to be on the mainland and the only way I want to do that is with business online. Thanks for letting me share! Hope to hear more from you in the coming months. Aloha!

Hi Marion ; I have a couple of questions, I hope it is not too much. First I kind of have an answer to my problem page quandry. My about me page has supposedly been fixed by site support. they say I can go ahead and redo my about me page but I am thinking about delete and start over.

While going through your wonderful list of training, I discovered a term I had not seen (heard ) before, Justify. And discovered that my about me page was displaying THAT error. How is this avoided? Also do you still recommend WP CLONE vs CHILD? And that does mean that Clone is to be set off site from WA ? And finally That off site would be a (Free ) website from WORDPRESS that does not need a host?
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
A child theme is a theme that's based on another theme. It's not a backup of your website. You use a child theme if you want to edit the code so that the edits don't get overwritten next time the theme is updated.

WA makes daily incremental backups of your website which, by their very nature, overwrite the previous backups. If you make a mistake and break your website then you would have to have support fix it before their next backup or they are going to have the backup of your website with the mistake in it.

If you needed to have your website restored to what it was like yesterday or last week then you would need to have your own backup.

WP Clone creates zip files which are backups of your website. You save those backups on your computer in case you need to revert your website to what it looked like yesterday or last week.

Text is not normally justified. It's something that some people choose to do thinking that it looks 'neat' when in fact it makes it harder to read.

Which theme are you using?
Reply
stawhu Premium
I got rid rid of the premium theme and went with the free theme called "little jump." Since I am basically starting over I wanted to get an idea of what to start out with on this episode. Thank you for your input , most helpful. Well, like I said I think , I did not make my about me page look like what you indicated would cause that sentence blanking problem. You know blocked structure.

Of course the paragraph structure lined up to the left, but the right side was ended so that the line would not exceed 90 characters. So, there might be 3 characters before the 90 or there might be 8 characters before the end depending how many characters were in the next word. So , I don't know why I was getting the problems that you displayed from what you called justifying. That is why I asked if you knew how to avoid that situation ? So, do you know? Scott
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
WordPress took away the option to make text justified (easily) a few updates ago. The only way to get justified text is to install a plugin or a theme that has that option. So I find it difficult to tell you how to avoid a problem that shouldn't have arisen in the first place. I just don't know why your page was justified.

Justified text and serif fonts work for paper and ink publications but they are hard to read on the screen.

To fix the problem you'll want to click on each paragraph (anywhere in the paragraph will do) and then click on the left-alignment icon.

thank you Marion, I trashed that About Scott Page, Do you think I can retrieve it and Use this corrective measure . As a matter of fact T might just do that. But, also I have been seeing this evening Fri-Sat ,12-13, That there are others having issues with site content. I wonder if it the same justifying issue. I find it strange that I incurred this problem even though I didn't justify my content. I will let you know the out come and thank you for pointing me in a direction. stawhu Scott

Hello Marion and Happy belated New year! Marion I surely need your professional assistance. For over a week I haven't received the usual emails from WA...and I certainly received quite a bit every day! I've requested help from support but I've received no response. I don't know what may have caused this halt in email messages being received but I need this problem resolved as soon as possible. Your usual assistance is so very much appreciated.

Hello, Marion, oddly enough only WA's email I'm not receiving as all other senders' emails I receive every day which leads me to believe that the problem is not on my end.
I'm so sorry to bring this up again, but I'm really becoming frustrated as Site Support has not responded after at least two notifications of my problem, which is headed into the third week now. Regrettably, if I can't get some assistance I will have to unsubscribe from WA, because I expected to get more support than what I received. I am receptive to any other suggestions you may have.

Thanks for following me Marion. I loved your bio! It reminds me of a song from the 70's - 80's, "Do The Hustle!" (remember disco?), although you're probably not that old.
It is good to be here at WA and I'm going through the lessons diligently, just optimized my SEO (now that I know what that is). I can't wait to start the next part, adding content! I just know that is where the magic is going to happen. I believe that is what will bring the traffic if it's solid content and presented well (please correct me if I'm wrong, I am a newbie). Look forward to more interaction here at WA. A pleasure to meet you, gooday!

Hi Marion, Thank you for adding me to your network, I'm doing like wise!

Oh yes, dear old Commodore 64's! ;-) A friend of ours were subscribed to some magazine which printed the code for some new games.... and then we would spend the whole afternoon typing in the code... and sometimes the game will work and sometimes there's an error either in the print or in the typing and then it doesn't work...

And dial-up...Wow, how life has advanced...

I'm looking forward to watching more of your training courses Marion. ;-)

Hello Marion: I am having edit problems on my about Scott post for the affiliate bootcamp. My about is ended up not fitting into the template and I did not realize what was happening at the the time. But evidently by typing through the next sections and pushing the forward with the space bar I had done something to cause the final out come that has the content skewed. paragraph not being paragraphs but showing up at the end of the preceeding para graph if there is room. The first paragraphs will not take my indent it keeps reverting to block. some of my edits revise some don't My first draft was two wide for the page , my page is a two column with a side menu in the third . My recent revision I counted characters for two columns line up all the paragraphs for my indent , I used 5 space, changed some words , some took some didn't, hit preview and while the page looked a little better it did not reflect how it was supposed to look according to either live revision or after published revision. Can this be dealt with or should I swap out my current premium theme with another? Then delete that theme then start over anew with my premium theme? I have difficulty with my left arm and therefore cannot type ,but by hunt and peck, so I am trying to find the best way to do this because the just typing the first draft prior to publishing took 4hrs. I don' mind starting over if that's what it will take to get this post to look right. Sorry the question is so long but I want to give you as much info as possible. Thank you Scott

Hi Scott,

As you have a premium theme you should be able to get support from the theme's developers. Give them as much information as you can.

Do let me know how you get on.

they referred me to the wordpress codex, which is written in chinese. or they will set up the the theme, which I am actually getting done, for $99.00 . my problem as I see it relates to the template and the adjustment made in the horizontal line print , 110 space characters in width of the template to the transfer to the theme space ,two column , 90 characters , and the push forward space bar to allow for more room on the vertical content area of the current title are before it crowds out the next title area. no, its not really chinese it just reads like that to someone who has no experience with any of this . Littlte joke. I guess I' check with Kyle. they designed the template thank you Scott

Hi Marion, just wondered if you might be able to help me with applying an Amazon link to my post. I tried using the same procedure as I do with my other affiliate companies, but it wouldn't paste onto my chosen phrase. I may be doing something wrong or missing a step but I was led to believe it was a simple process! I can't find any training. I can't watch videos at the moment (cleared cache and all that but still not working) so if you have any tips that would be great! Sue

Hi Marion, good to meet you. I loved reading your profile and finding out how you are growing yourself!

May I ask you a question? It talks about backing up your WordPress site. When I looked there were many ways to do this but I do not know much about these things. I would like something that is automatic. How do you choose the best way? I would like to have advice on this. I have come along way on this my first day of real work on Wealthy Affiliate, but not as far as I wanted. There is still much I do not understand.

Thanks Marion, for following and offering your help and advice. Writing this it crosses my mind, that quite a few people have come up with suggestions but it's hard to keep track where the things came from I wanted to follow up..
Is there a way to store things, like your tutorial and video page in a private folder so I can come back to that in my own time?

Hi Marion, thank you for the follow, following you back. I'm taking a leaf from your book: "If you don't like your "main hustle" then develop your "side hustle" to the point where it can become your "main hustle" and ditch your job". I really like that that advice and that's what I'm working towards. It's an honour having an Ambassador in my network :-). I'll definitely be checking out your training section.

Hi Marion,

Thanks for following me! Nice to meet you here!

I loved your bio-sketch, or profile as we call here in WA. It is light but captivating! I see that you are loaded with tons of experience both in offline business and online.

I was off WA for few months, but recently reactivated my membership. This time I am more focused and have better clarity with regards to what I want and what I can achieve by being an online entrepreneur. Just working on some big plans at the moment. I sure will check out your training and blogs as soon as one of my hands are free!

Maybe one day, I'll interview you! Lol :-)

Cheers,

Hi Marion, seemed to have lost contact after your most welcome assistance.

I went, as you suggested, to technical. They have moved all four of my sites, now safely in WA.

I have also directed the 'nameservers' to WA. so they are now active here.

I am trying to work out the sequence of transferring the domain names.

I know, I can take my time with these, so can you advise the sequence and how and when I pay the one year for the domain/s.

I have watched the video, and it appears that this takes when one presses the new site button.

Does the domain transfer need to be completed before the I complete the above, and pay a year in advance, though all my site are active until next year.

Thank you again for your assistance,

Tom.

Stay away from the "new site" button. You won't want to delete your website by overwriting it with a new WordPress install.

Once your websites are hosted at WA there's no rush to transfer the registration of the domain name. When I was doing that for my sites I waited until about 4-6 weeks before each renewal was due and transferred the domain names then. Make sure you keep the registration details including email addresses up to date and you'll be fine.

Thank you Marion, and thank you, as the allayer of the concern I was having with this button.

You have made it clear that there is no rush to re-register the domains, only to do so near the renewal date.

The sites themselves are fully functional, so I can continue to develop them.

Can I presume, when I transfer, I unlock domain, get code, I then introduce the code to WA., as the correct procedure.

Thank you again for your invaluable help,

Tom.
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
I'm not sure where your domain names are registered but the procedure is similar for all registrars The nameservers will stay exactly the same as they are now, you don't need to change anything there. Changing domain name registrars does not affect the nameservers.

Marion,
I have a web domain that is stagnant and I might want to use it to rebuild. It is hosted. The index page is not relevant to my affiliate marketing idea however I could use a different landing page on the site.
Should my URL (WordPress URI) be only keywords that will generate traffic?
Thank you,
Katherine
Reply
MarionBlack Premium
It's the content that generates traffic not the URL. If you use the domain name as a landing page then you'll need to generate the traffic through advertising or other promotions.

Thank you. I remember Commodore 64. My first was Tandy TRS-80 microprocessor from Radio Shack in 1977. It only provided a simple game interface. I loved IBM MS-DOS and creating databases three years later. Of course, there were those moment when I forgot to backup and lost everything. Great memories.

Hi Marion,

I just followed your training on drop-down menus. It worked well until I went in to try to delete my categories down the side of my page. I tried deleting one and it removed the article completely from my website!!! I hadn't saved it anywhere so I have lost it. Obviously I don't want categories to show now as I have all the posts and pages up in my new drop-down menu. Can you tell me how I can get rid of my categories? Also the spot where the particular category was now says "Uncategorised".

Thank you.

Sue

Ouch! Don't delete the categories, just delete the category widget. Go to Appearance > Widgets and you'll see the Category widget in the sidebar. Click on the tiny triangle to open it and you'll find Delete at the bottom left.

Check to see if your post is still there. Go to Posts > All Posts and see if you can find it. Check the Trash can too because it may be in there.

Hi Marion, I am back in the WA family after being gone for 5 months. I reached out a couple of times, but got side tracked with another business, which was making my income to pay my bills, in addition I became very ill, which is what made me leave for a while. I would like to reach out to you in the next week or so, and see if we can chat for a bit. I would like to get some advise from you, and see what has been your success to where you are currently. Hi Marion, your profile is great. The only reason I haven't looked at before is that I'm still trying to work my way around the WA site. I am totally new to the whole concept of websites. It took me ages to be do something as simple as put a link on a FB page...... I get a bit frustrated with myself for not being able to pick up things as quickly as I would like and feel is sort of "2 steps forward, 1 step back" at the moment.

My aim was just to become an affiliate marketer, and I had no idea I would be setting up my niche so quickly so I had to think of something that I love on the hop.

I'm in Adelaide too. What suburb are you in? I'm in Plympton.

I have clicked to follow you and will be looking at your training too, in between completing the WA training. I have not worked in the corporate world for 4 weeks now but I will be starting a new contract next Tuesday 15 Aug which will unfortunately restrict my learning time.

Here is my website (I've just added "Continue Reading" from your video to one of my posts. If you have any suggestions or ideas I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Hi Marion, thanks for that. I'm a bit confused. I thought we could share anything with other WA members? I've seen lots of links to Google accounts, FB, Twitter and Instagram in various comments by WA members. I hadn't seen the article about spam. I didn't think my website, created here in WA, would be regarded as spam. Am a bit confused.

I hope I won't be banned by inadvertently sharing my link!!!

You'll be OK Suzy.

WA is very much a spam and promotions free zone. You can put links to your social media and websites on your profile page at the bottom right under "Follow Me On". Otherwise only add links to your website when it's unavoidable such as when you're asking or answering a question and linking to the site is the only way to explain things.

Most of the time a screenshot will be better

Dear Marion,

I have a question that is way out of my depth. You will know the answer. I am still waiting for the magical traffic to pour in but I won't hold my breath.
In June, I had one great gush of subscribers and thought that might be the beginning of something.
How by the next week that had all dried up.

What did I do over those 3-4 days that drove in all this visitors? I tried to look back on those few days and what I had put out the. Is there a way to find out what post made them come to my site. I would do it again.

What do you think, gurulady?

But found out that Google has sent me a message to complete a particular task. I was asked to by Google to st my site to a particular target location. Please will you advice me to do that?

To set my website to international target location?

Some websites are more relevant to a particular geographical area or country. Most websites are international. If your target audience reside in one country then that would be the target location. If your audience is international then don't choose a particular target location.

Hello, Marion! Your knowledge of creation of website is definitely needed in my case. I'm not the most computer savvy user around and am having a little difficulty with the word "Domain" for my website which I'm about to create as we speak. What, in fact, is :domain" and how should I apply it to my website?
If In were to use mywealthbuilding.com is this an example of domain usage, would tis be accurate?
Your good advice is much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Yes, your example is a domain name. But I recommend that you look for a domain name that hasn't already been registered so you can get it for $13.99 instead of $2,395.00.

Best to do them one at a time. Use the link above to backup your website using WP Clone then contact Site Support and ask them to help you move the website.

After you've got all that sorted then transfer the domain name. Your domain name doesn't need to be transferred until it's getting near renewal time.

Hi Marion, I am not new to computers, but have struggled extensively to learn how to use them. I am much better at written languages. Even with the instructions I've seen on some of the videos, I have racked my brain to try and understand what the instruction is to build and create and blog and post and so on And so on....I learn better by being instructed while I follow along and do the work with someone. Unfortunately, my computer has been Down and the only thing I have is my IPad on which I can only work one screen at a time. So I have to watch, stop the video and then try the action on another screen then come back and replay over and over until I get it.

The custom links in the menu can link to anywhere in the internet at your choice. Or you can link to nowhere and keep your visitors on the same page by using the # symbol instead of a URL.
