Darn! What plug in are you using? I am using the Ultimate Social Media one (which does have a few quirks). For instance, I have Instagram as one of my platforms which shows in the settings but not on my website).

Jorn had the best idea although for some reason it displays my icon colors in the theme accent color which I din't want so I've just abandoned the idea for now. Too much else to do. :)

they been sending us out a lot of emails that look the same, I did a training and blog on two of them, which one are you referring to, I'll be doing another blog on the others but google actually wants us to take action, they are not looking after things in the background across the board

on their Privacy Policy:

"This month, we’re updating our Privacy Policy to make it easier for you to understand what information we collect and why we collect it. We’ve also taken steps to improve our Privacy Checkup and other controls we provide to safeguard your data and protect your privacy.
Nothing is changing about your current settings or how your information is processed. Rather, we’ve improved the way we describe our practices and how we explain the options you have to update, manage, export, and delete your data.
We’re making these updates as new data protection regulations come into effect in the European Union, and we’re taking the opportunity to make improvements for Google users around the world.

It's obviously not as straight forward as I thought. One can't do what you think is sufficient as that won't help you if you run into trouble. One has to know for sure and that does not seem to be easy to achieve.

I want to be compliant of course but I also want to avoid unnecessary action and expense, which I am sure is true for all of us.

So very true. I wish there was an exact answer in black and white no ifs ands or buts!

Yes, I fully agree with you Mark. I also want to comply, but without all the shiny stuff that every proclaimed (or self-proclaimed) "guru" is trying to peddle in the process, feeding off our eagerness to comply.

I have followed those tutorials as well and thought I had implemented what Loes recommends on my website but there seems to be more I am missing. I agree like you that I have spent enough time on this already but when it comes to the law we each have to take full responsibility for what we have or haven't done so I think it's worth checking.

Hey Mark. I also upgraded my privacy policy. There must be an official document somewhere describing the necessary actions. That should be researched.
