I was interested to know how many people are in the WA Community, because when I first started some 6 months ago I think it was around 600k - but I can't remember where to find
Over 800.000 members, but... those include all the members as well who do not even fill in their profile. Membership at WA is for life.
I think above 800 000. I always check how my referrals are progressing in terms of ranking here at WA.
Kind of a sensitive question. You see; if people know the number of members and multiply that times an average annual fee you could come up with a gross sales figure for the company. What you would not know is the number of dropouts. WA is not on the stock exchange; and therefore not a public company that needs to divulge its earnings. Keep on wondering! Bob
Hmm ... I was not even thinking on those lines, but now that you mention it ... I just remembered that it is easy to see how many if you just look at the founders followers ...

I have been getting a lot of subscribers lately on my websites, but it looked like a bunch of spam, so in the beginning I would just delete them - then in the last 2 days, I go
Akismet is not needed on WA-hosted sites since spam blocking is done at the server level. Akismet Plugin - The Dark Side of Greed. [added]
The spamshield plugin mentioned in the link above was a temporary measure and has since been replaced with the server-level blocking.
you might be careful , I just read a article that a lot of WP sites been hacked . How it does not say .
The most recent wordpress hack was fixed with the 4.7.2 version. From everything that I've read, it was an API hack that had nothing to do with spam registrations. This hack attacks without your even knowing that it was there.
Here's some further information from sucuri:
"WordPress 4.7.2 was released two weeks ago, including a fix for a severe vulnerability in the WordPress REST API. We have been monitoring our WAF network and honeypots closely to see how and when the attackers would try to exploit this issue the wild."

Thanks Bob- Not sure that WA sent out a broadcast of the change. But I'll delete Akimest and install WP Spamshield. I have moved my sites from WP to Shopiify, so don't use WP much.
Is your plugin "Akismet" up-to-date? I had this on one of my other WP sites and when I installed this plugin, the craziness stopped.
David -- Akismet is no longer needed on WA-hosted sites. Spam blocking is handled at the server level.

Interesting software yes, but still doesn't answer how these people get to subscribe on my website

Because I want to register my country's TLD .co.za - I have to purchase it elsewhere and move it over to WA - is it going to cost me to move it over?
The hosting is included in the premium membership Michael. It's the domain name that costs $13.99 a year for a dot com.
If a domain name cannot be registered through WA then you can't transfer the domain name registration to WA. You can have your website hosted at WA as part of your premium membership. You just need to point the DNS (Domain Name Servers) to WA's hosting. DNS Settings
Can this be reversed as well? I asume you'd just have to remove the DNS record that pointed you domain to the WA server in the first place, correct?
When you change the DNS that only tells the internet where to find your website's files. You would have to move the website's files to another hosting company as well as changing the DNS.
I just got the following message...
The following domain has webspace at WA that is pending removal. In order to use WA hosting, you need to have your DNS pointed to our servers:
Primary: ns1.mywahosting.com
Secondary: ns2.mywahosting.com
Please update your nameservers to point to our servers as your domain is scheduled to be removed in 9 days.

To do this has cost me 13.99. I thought we had it for free if we were a premium member? Robert.
The hosting is included in the premium membership but domain names are our own responsibility. Most people only have one domain name but some (including Kyle) have thousands.
You can buy your domain names at WA or any other recognized domain name registrar such as GoDaddy, Namecheap etc.
According to whois your domain name is being hosted at WA. Perhaps you just need to go to Site Rubix > Site Builder and build a website on the domain that you own.
As your domain name is a couple of years old perhaps you need to back up your website and move the files to WA. Contact Site Support if that is the case.
Thanks for the advice Marion. My laptop crashed hence the delay in replying. I had to buy a new one.
I need help. Can I pm you?
Hi Laurie if you have your domain name at a different registrar and you want to host it here at WA there is no cost to point the domain name to WA.

I'm busy creating a work webiste here on SiteRubix, but if I ever had to leave, I would want them to transfer it to their own hosting platform - is this possible?
I transferred my site from WA to elsewhere. FTP transfer is best. I've found the export/import function available through Wordpress to be rather glitchy at times.
You'll have to ask support for the actual database for the transfer though. FTP will get you started, but you'll need the database to upload to your new server also.
If you move to something like Hostgator, they'll take care of the transfer for you.
Thanks Renee - sounds complicated by hopefully the other side of where it goes will know more
Not too complicated if you get a hosting company that'll do the transfer for you. Then you just need to put in the request and provide the credentials.
You can not transfer a Siterubix.com website, you need your own domain name to be able to transfer your website to another host.
How could this be achieved? Via export in the WP admin? What about all the media and the design settings? I have no FTP access.
I just realized how "hosted" WA WordPress is here when I realized I had no access to the MX records to set up email on Exchange. You bring up a good point with having no access to FTP and other settings for that matter.
If pointing records for hosting is the only thing we have access to.
I'm following this as I was thinking about buying a domain and hosting it here and managing it for my niece...but what about when she's ready to take it over? I certainly don't want to manage her domain forever. I might be better off keeping that domain registration and hosting elsewhere.

Yes folks, you do have FTP access to a fully hosted domain here (not a .siterubix.com address). The FTP details are listed in your Site Details in site manager. There is also training on accessing your sites via FTP if you search the main search bar as well.
Thank you! I'm still new to WA and WordPress, so after realizing I had no DNS zone access I figured we were extremely limited on the back end.
This is very helpful.

@onmyownterms: That's only partially correct. In fact, you haven't FTP access for the first 30 days of your premium membership.

I know I can't buy a .co.za TLD from SiteRubix, but if I had to purchase it elsewhere, would I be able to transfer it and can it be hosted by SiteRubix - would really like to u
You should be able to point the DNS (Domain Name Servers) to WA and if so it can be hosted here. You will not be able to transfer the registration of the domain name as country domain names are not supported.
If your intended audience is local then go with the country domain name but if you want international appeal then go with a dot com.
