Is this necessary if I'm not selling anything or sending out update email yet.

Sandra

Get your audience accustomed to responding to you even if you don't offer them anything at the moment.

So what's the difference between a comment section (which I have) and a call to action, I also have a contact page.

Whenever you pass the information your expectation is to ge back a response , so that means that your post is incomplete without this call of some kind.

We are told that it is advisable to have a call to action somewhere in every post, but what it is depends on what you are trying to do :)

The reason I asked this is because I had some feedback given on my site, and the missing 'call to action' was noted, I just wondered, as I have a comment section and a contact page and I'm not offering anything at this moment.
Thanks for your input,

Sandra

Sandra, a simple call to action can be something like this:
If you found my post interesting, please share it with your friends ... and do leave a comment, won't you?

That is a call to action that can work to gain you social shares and/or comments.

Then once you start selling ... Click here is a great call to action. This is all covered in detail within Kyle's Certification training.

So does it have to be linked to somewhere/something?

You only need to add a link to, say, "Click here" (without the quotation marks, of course) ... but I see no reason to add a link to a sentence like, say: "If you found my post interesting, please share it with your friends ... and do leave a comment, won't you?"

Why do you feel it necessary to add a link to your call to action? That too is covered in Kyle's training Sandra.

I have tried looking for Kyle's tutorial on 'call to action' but can't find it. Anyway I think I get it now!,
I'm being bit thick today lol

Thanks for your help, Sandra

Hey Sandra,

If you click on "Certification" displayed in the left-hand sidebar here (in lime green) and follow Kyle's training, you will discover all sorts of great lessons.

I'm certainly enjoying learning more, and once I've completed this training, I'll start the Bootcamp training (in the black box on the left-hand sidebar here)

I believe call to action is a means for your audience to do something, it could be to click through and read three whole article, to share the link on their social network, to comment or like a page. It may even be for them to apply what you are teaching for their own benefit. It doesn't have to be about selling all the time. It has to be appropriate.

I can't think of anything appropriate for having a 'call to action' as I'm not offering anything at this moment. I do have a contact page and comments section.

I received an email this morning from my website, has anyone had the same or heard of this person?

reads as follows:

From: Julianna Vaca
Subject:

Mes

It's just a sales email that wants to sell you traffic, which is probably not very high quality traffic.

OK thank you...I was wondering if it was spam, I'll ignore it then.

What is a bootstrap plugin? and why would I need it for my contact 7 page?

contact 7 plugin is advising me to use it alongside.

Per Wordpress.org:
Bootstrap for Contact Form 7 modifies all the output of the popular Contact Form 7 plugin to be fully compatible with the current version 3 of the popular CSS framework Bootstrap.

If you are not using the bootstrap environment to develop your website, I don't believe you'll need this plug-in.

I did activate it, but it through my contact page out of alignment so I deactivated it. maybe I didn't do something I should have?. As far as I know I haven't needed it for anything else.
By the way what does CSS stand for?

Sandra

Cascading Style Sheet - it is the 'code' behind how your WordPress site is displayed. I don't think you really need this plug-in.

Thank you for your help, I think you maybe right in leaving it out, I'll see how it goes.

I'm having problems with Plugins update and uploading,

Keeps telling me they have failed, any ideas anyone?

Sandra

This depends on the specific plugin. What plugins are you using?

Hi,
I think there was a tehc problem....as site-support have now sorted it.
Many thanks for your offer of help.

Sandra

They might not be compatible with your theme or your version of wordpress.
Robert

They were alright up until today, been using the theme for some time now which is Volata.
Thank you for responding.

Sandra

It might be one plugin is stopping uploads.
You can never tell with wordpress.
If you can remember the last plugin you added or updated then deactivating it might do the trick.
Then reactivate it after your update.
Robert

Ok I'll try that, I did upload a contact plugin yesterday which I later deleted.
Thanks again, Sandra

Perhaps if you deactivate all your plugins then try to update/add the one you want.
Robert

My site asks me to empty cache after messing around with plugins. Maybe you find that on yours, too?

Hi Heidi,
Done all that, I clear cache and unwanted files every day, just tried a contact me plugin and still not working keeps telling me:

"Installation failed: Could not copy file. contact-form-add/core_functions.php"

not sure what "core function.php" means, any ideas? its not my theme as it's ticked to be suitable for it.

Sandra

Hi Sandra. You never told me what plugin you were trying to upload.
If you are using the new updated version of WA's WP the contact for is included.
But
If you take a look at a blog I published last year you mjust might be able to get a Contact Me Form uploaded.

Here's the Blog Link - Be Lucky.
Robert

Heidi are you looking to upload a Contact Form as well?
Robert

No Robert, I have done it already. In this moment I am struggling with uploading a premium Theme I have bought. I tried it twice via the THEMES section, now with Filezilly, but it doesn't even start upload after 10 min, although no error message, but Status: "Server sent passive reply with unroutable address. Using server address instead."
Sometimes things make you really crazy!

Heidi why don't you ask Tech Support to do it for you?
That's what they are there for and would probably only take them a minute or two.
Robert

They have helped me already so often, still some processes running. I hoped, this time it would work..... So I have to bother them again.

Heidi that's what they are paid for and your subscription helps to pay their wages so don't feel guilty about asking for their help.
Robert

Hi Robert,
it's not just uploading it's also updates to plugins that aren't working, I had 2 updates yesterday but nether where updating, both failed to update, so I deactivated them both.

Sandra

Have you tried changing your them altogether.
You can always change back.
You can also try deactivating all your plugins.
You will get updates for plugins you have deactivated.
Best to delete those ones altogether if you no longer use them.
Robert

I have just got in touch with support will wait to hear back from them and see what they suggest, will let you know how it goes.

Many thanks for your help.

Sandra

No probs and they should be able to help you.
After all that's what they're paid for.
I'm off to get some eats now so catch you later ok.
Robert

All fixed now ya.......many thanks, I will now follow your instruction for adding a contact page...been trying to do this for the last 3 days, so fingers X.

Sandra

Hi Heidi,
Just to let you know all sorted, got in touch with site-support,

Many thanks Sandra.

Good to hear! They do what they can to help us!

Hi Sandra, back again for a wee while.
Great you got things sorted.
Did you manage to install a Contact Me Form?
Robert

Hi Robert,
Yes thanks, I followed your link...very straight forward and then tried to add a captcha from Google but got stuck on where to put the last 2 codes, as you can tell I'm not very ofay with any of this stuff,

Sandra

I don't bother with captcha.
I get the odd crappy message/email and some people promoting their own stuff but I can live with that and just delete them anyway.
I'm off to watch a Webinar now.

I' am putting my contact email address in my Privacy Policy page but its not coming up as clickable....should it be clickable? if so what am I not doing?.

My domain name

HEY HUN, DID YOU GET SORTED....MINE IS NOT CLICKABLE :-)) XOXO

Hi Tania, haven't seen you around much of late, missing your funny blogs.
Thanks for asking yes I have sorted it, decided to follow Kevin's advice by putting a contact page up hopefully to stop spamming.

Sandra x

Sandra, I created a "Contact Me" page on my website and put up a contact form using the very simple WPForms Lite Plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpforms-lite/). That way I didn't have to put my email address out there and it forces the sender to provide me with whatever information I require, such as their name. It helps to limit the spam that I receive.

There are many other contact form plugins out there if you don't like WPForms.

There are also Anti-spam plugins that you can add to your contact form that use captcha technology to reduce spam from robots. I chose not to use one on my site.

To your success, Kevin

Thank you Kevin, that sounds like a good way to go as I 'am concerned about the spam aspect.

I had a spam bot get hold of my email and was getting over a hundred spam emails a day, so I had to change it.
Personally I wouldn't make it clickable on my site, but I do on my emails :-)

Thanks John
I think I may do what Kevin suggested, and try and avoid as much spam as humanly possible

Sandra

Awesome :-)

I had a nice long but informative tutorial I was writing as an answer. But then noticed Loes answered with a quick to the point lesson.
Did you get it?

You can select the email address, go to the link button and add in the URL box

mailto:youremailaddress

and it will become clickable

Here is a process using Dreamweaver.http://www.thesitewizard.com/dreamweaver/clickable-email-address.shtml

Thanks Michael
I keep reading about spam with putting email address's up,
going back to the lessons from Kyle I seem to remember him saying that we need to put our contact on the Privacy Policy page.
What's your thoughts on this?

I would say this is in a containment area on your site where this is safe to do

if you're just subbing the text in the template, it is not clickable unless you also go into the text editor and make it a mailto: link. It's not necessary for it to be clickable.
