About Brendie
Joined July 2016
Hello! I am Brendie!
My background is in cooking. I used to be a line cook at a couple casinos in the next town over. And worked in an office over 20 years ago.
I come from a family with 6 kids. Three boys and three girls. Step-dad has three sons. Mom has three girls. Yes, just like the Brady Bunch!
I removed the part of feeling out of place. Settling in quite well.
Anyway! On to current issues or habits!
I have two pets (a dog and a cat). Yup, just a simple pet servant. But, I do enjoy camping, fishing, learning new software, practicing with my slingshot (oh, a bad shot), playing pool (have stick, will play), hanging out with friends and currently working on my first novel (outline in progress!).
My goal here is simple: Learn, have fun, meet new people and make money.
And, if you look to the right, underneath my profile picture I put up a photo of my cat and my dog. They are reminders of why I am doing this.
Note: I try to say 'Thank you for following!' and 'You're welcome!' to everyone that passes through my spot here. Unfortunately, I cannot. That is a super power I don't possess...But I truly mean to say these things!

Hi Brendie, I just read a post of yours regarding building trust for your website and replied to it. I wanted to reach out to you since I thought the information you provided was very helpful. I too love cooking and have 2 border collies! (no cats) but I'm warming up to them! I hope you have gotten your novel off the ground and are well on your way to success here!

Hi Brendie. Thanks for the follow. I wish you all the best in WA. The community here is great. I love cats too but unfortunately I can't keep them. My kids are allergic to cats. And wow... I can't wait to hear about your first novel! I love reading novels!!
Reply
Brendie Premium
That's too bad about your kids being allergic to cats. Growing up we had cats and dogs. My first personal pet was a white cat with blue eyes. I named her Milky White.
The cat I have now is named Baby Girl.
Reply
indahpermai Premium
Yup, I missed having cats in the house. I had a white cat with blue eyes too. Named her Elizabeth based on a novel that I read because she got blue eyes too. But the cat died in an accident. We found her the next day when the neighbour said she thinks it's my cat lying on the road. Right enough. We buried her next to our mango tree... it was such a sad day that time.
Reply
Brendie Premium
I am sorry to hear about Elizabeth. Sad.
I lost Milky White but not like that. She ran away to the neighbors house down the road.
Reply
indahpermai Premium
Thank you. It was a long time ago. Well, I had Jessica running away. My family and I looked for her but couldn't find her anywhere. Even the neighbours said they didn't see her. We never knew what happened to her. She just didn't come back home...
Reply
Brendie Premium
That sucks!
I have a few interesting stories of my current cat aka The Troublemaker...
Reply
indahpermai Premium
Ha ha... I can imagine. When we have cats, there are always stories that make me laugh when I look back into it. I didn't have any troublemaker though. Maybe because I got only 5-6 cats max at any time. Couldn't take care of them all. By the way, mom did all the taking care part actually. I just played with them!
Reply
Brendie Premium
I take care of this one. She is eight years old and still a brat.
Reply
indahpermai Premium
Of course she is. Your life will be miserable if she isn't. Hope she's doing well.
Reply
Brendie Premium
Considering she spends most of her time hiding in cabinets, under blankets, in closets, yup, she is doing great! Been doing this for as long as I've known her. When people come over, they tell me it's like I don't have a cat. Since she is hiding most of the time. Stays in the bedroom since I got the dog. But, the cat is healthy and happy. I check on her several times a day.
Reply
indahpermai Premium
Good for you then. Could be she's just shy or she's staying away from the dog. Ha ha. I've never met any cat owner whose cat hides away. Normally the moment I go into a house, there they are. I actually have to shoo them away because my kids are allergic to them.
Reply
Brendie Premium
She has been like that since she was a kitten. If someone comes in, she stays hidden. I have to go get her, then she'll rub up against whoever it is (if she knows them, if not, back to her hiding spot).
Reply
indahpermai Premium
I think she just prefers her own comfort world. Different cats, different behaviour. As long as she's okay, nothing to worry about.

Hello, Brendie, thank you for the follow! By the way, I love your dog and cat, "their so adorable!" I love animals...I have 4 spoiled rotten domesticated rabbits and one spoiled Eastern Cottontail bunny that has seizures and also blind in one eye. I got him when he was less than a week old, with severe trauma to the head, and to his eye...he, of course, is unreleasable, and with his condition will live out his life with me. Brendie, nice to hear from you. Ah the cat in the cupboard routine. I am really aware of this. And in bed, in her cat house, on the computer keyboard and lots of other places she isn't allowed!

I don't know if your feeling out of place was about WA but if so don't. All the WAers I have met really make me feel at home.

You have great goals and what is your book about?

Happy journey here and keep in touch.
Reply

That photo of the little monster in the cupboard was taken shortly after I had removed the door of that cabinet. Notice the short glasses next to her. I, also, removed a cabinet door above the bed so she could get in there (complete with a blanket and a nice fluffy pillow). Right now, she stays in the bedroom because she does not like the dog. Unless there is a storm.
My book...will be written from a cat's view of the world, maybe a few inserts from a sneaky master thief (dog).
Reply
HelenpDoyle Premium
Sounds good. Let's see, a cat's point of view. Eat, sleep, catch birds and mice, ignore humans (except when they are reading) and expect to be waited on hand, foot and finger. Does that about wrap it up. Oh and in our house it's also 'oh boy paper; how many unidentifiable pieces can I rip it into'.

Well, my cat is a little strange. Hides during the day. In cabinets, under the blankets, etc., plays at night and more naps at night.

When I was working at the casinos I used to play every night after work and on my days off. It was fun! Always a pool table open somewhere. Here they have regular hours but it's free. They finally fixed the table. So, once again, I get to enjoy the game daily. I have my own cue due to the fact that here all the cues have broken tips, except one.

When I was back in University, we used to play for drinks... I got through many an evening of free beer, while in school... LOL

That was a long time ago however... I don;t play like I used to anymore... I have my own cue as well... If I play now, I love to play snooker on the big 6x12 tables... A much different challenge than playing 8 Ball on the bar size tables...
Reply
Brendie Premium
I've never played snooker. Heard of it. I've played regular 8 ball. I, also, like the challenge of 9 ball (never play against my ex boss, he'll let you win the first game, then win the rest of them). We used to play a game of cutthroat or sometimes called elimination (various names for this game). I don't know the technical name for that one, it consists of 3 players.

Hello Brandie I would be willing to bet that most of us here has had office or business experience but the internet is a different system although the IRS and other departments of State are the same. We all must learn e-commerce, affiliate marketing, etc., and I have found that it is easier to learn fresh, and harder to unlearn in order to learn new systems. If you understand what I'm trying to say.

You are in good company! You are not out of place in fact you are in the right place. Welcome, and I know you will enjoy learning just as I have. Don't get ahead of yourself as I did because it takes more time to fix a mistake than to do something correctly the first time. Remember step by step. Task after task in order. You will be fine.

Hi Brendie, Paul Mindra here from Ontario, Canada.

Thank you for introducing yourself. I am very pleased to meet you. Your kind gesture is returned with grace.

Welcome to WA. You will like it here.

I spent almost 40 years in the cooking industry. Mixed styles of Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsey. Anthony's temperament and Gordon's style of execution.

It was a good run. Times change, people change. Now I find myself here.

Look forward to sharing and serving,

Kindest regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul!
Nice to meet you too!
I don't know who Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsey are. Will have to look them up.
Most cooks I know are temperamental on the line. Especially when a customer sends back a steak saying it wasn't cooked right. What? Not right? The customer slices off the edge or tip of the steak to see if it was done & sends it back. Not realizing that the edges & tips cook faster than the center. Or it is too rare by the bone & they want another steak for free after they eat almost all of that one. Enjoyed my time as a cook. It was fun!

Hi again.

The industry has changed. It is now a world of 'superstars.'

Thirty years ago, we as professionals were remunerated based on the knowledge that we had acquired. Here is a link to Anthony Bourdain's New York Best Seller.

https://joeandjin.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/anthony-bourdain-kitchen-confidential.pdf

My gift to you.

If you start reading, you will not put it down.

The last 10 years of my 'cooking career' was spent doing what Gordon Ramsey does in his videos found here:

http://www.fox.com/hotel-hell

'Temperament' really has nothing to do with things anymore Brendie,

Five year old's today can 'unlock' phones and have their own IP accounts.

What was I doing in a mud hut village in India when I was 5?

Eating dirt.

Your boss asks you to make a 'tomatoe consomme' for tomorrows lunch service.

Is there an issue? No.

Just Google 'tomatoe consomme.'

I think you get what I mean.

Enjoy the read and view some videos. You will relate.

Touch base as often as you would like. I have not decided on a 'Niche' yet, but I think it will be food related.

You are blessed my dear.

Kindest always,

Paul.

I was referring to the line cooks I used to work with on the front line and the back line at the casinos in the 2000s. Great crew at those casinos.
At 5 I was in school. A different one than my sisters. Had a little garden full of turnips. But at age 3 Mom used to take me to work with her at my sisters' school. She worked in the kitchen. I played with pots, pans and tasted food. This was back in the early 70s. My favorite cook at that time was Imogene (local cook). She was straight forward in her approach to people. Didn't hold back. Always made time for little kitchen freaks (like me).
I don't know the technical terms of cooking (not a Chef, just an ex line cook).
Thanks for the book. I downloaded it to read. Will watch the videos. Used to watch the cooking competitions/motorcycle shows with my late husband.

I appreciate the follow and I am happy to do the same. We share a few things in common. I used to be pretty good with a slingshot and I always enjoyed a good game of pool. I wish you every success in your journey. Oh! don't feel out of place because I am very computer illiterate.

You're welcome! Thank you for following!
I am a bad shot with the slingshot. Need more practice and focus. Better at pool! Have my own stick because bar pool sticks aren't always straight.

No they are not! I always turn the warped end downward and it seems to work pretty good. LOL But I do have my on stick as well.

I have an Eastpoint Titanium pool cue from Walmart. A good stick. My own chalk too. Because sometimes the chalk is almost gone at some places! The bar pool cues are usually warped, cracked, pieces of wood missing or the tip is gone. And the shape some tables are in? Don't get me started! lol I wish I had my own table. One day!

Hi Brendie, thanks for the follow, welcome to WA! Are you building a cooking website? Then that'll be so exciting. I too have a long years of office experience and anything that's not "office-y" I think is exciting!

I like your pet photos, we too have a cat and a dog.
I wish you the very best of luck with success!

I would love to build a cooking website! As it is, I live in a fifth wheel. Propane is too expensive so that's strictly used for the water tank in the summer and heat/water heater in the winter until I can move into a regular house. I do a lot of cooking in the crock pot, water smoker grill and the toaster oven. When I use the toaster oven I have to shut off the AC or use it first thing in the morning because it trips the fuse switches.
I have a few ideas about other niches and blogs. And a special website which will not be used for income.

Wow that actually sounds so fascinating! I'd love to live in a camper van. There may be some inconveniences like having to juggle equipment but I guess the life is much simpler. I'm not suggesting you should write about it, but I'd like to read about it more for sure (how to survive in a fifth wheel)! But as you already have plans about your niches, I wish you the best of luck! I look forward to the updates in the near future!

Been living in this fifth wheel for about 3 years. Bought it almost 2 years ago. Have lived in motels too, along with other fifth wheels (none nearly as good in shape as this one) and a house (was buying it way back in the early 90s). I do enjoy living in it. But with a hyper dog like mine I need a home with a yard. That and we are only allowed two pets, I'd really like to get another dog so Buddy has someone to play with. Cat doesn't like him. Little Miss Attitude!
Thank you for the great idea about how to survive in a fifth wheel! Didn't think of that! Or how to live in KOA...
I'm going to add that one to my list. Even if I do make enough money to buy a house I can still write about fifth wheel living.

You know what, living in a camper van (caravan?) is one thing but living in American motels, I can't imagine what it's like. I'm from UK, didn't know you called it "fifth wheel", certainly didn't know what KOA meant (have Googled now lol) to start with. I'd probably have a hundred questions that you could answer in your website!
Ah, shame about your cat not getting on with the dog but they are like that, aren't they. Our dog & cat are both male, they used to wrestle like cartoon characters but have learned to ignore each other over the years. Thanks again Brendie, good to know you. Good luck!

Ah, caravan. A neighbor lives in one of those. A fifth wheel is a trailer that can be hooked up to a truck to haul it to different places. Has a license plate with tags. Mine is 32 foot long, I think.Has 2 slide-outs (couch & dining table on one side & TV cabinet slide out on the other side), so it's got a good size living room. A lot of different styles, sizes and interior designs. Mine is a Wildwood made by Forest River I believe.
KOA stands for Kampgrounds of America. A popular destination for a variety of travelers. Cabins, tent spots, fifth wheels, RVs, travel trailers and caravans.
My cat is 8 years old. She's been the only pet until recently. I've had dogs and cats in the past that got along great. My dog wants to be friends. The cat says nope!

Woah 32 foot long, that's massive! Our living room is less than 20 feet for sure. I can't imagine driving that in the UK. Sounds like living a dream to me, living in KOA. Though understand perfectly you want a house! I know, dogs want to be friends with cats and they don't understand cats don't like them, bless them!

Well, it has everything. Small oven/stove, fridge, sinks, dining table, couch, lots of cabinets, microwave, small bathroom, bedroom and living room. I've seen bigger ones. Huge!
And some KOAs, like this one, has a rec room, swimming pool, hot tub, dog park, kids park, laundry room, pool table & store.

RayAleksandr Premium
Wow, now I don't understand why you want to move into a house! With a swimming pool and dog park, I'd move to KOA tomorrow if I could!

I forgot, miniature golf!
Been wanting a house for awhile. Before I got the dog I wanted a house. Tired of hearing RVs drive by.

How do you go food shopping? I guess unhook the trailer and drive to a supermarket? Leaving the cat at home? Silly question but is the internet connection normal?
Reply
Brendie Premium
No, the trailer isn't hooked up to a truck. It has wheels & jacks. I drive my car to the store. No truck yet. My cat stays in the bedroom. My dog stays in his kennel, only when I go somewhere. He's destructive.
Free WiFi & some Dish channels.
I need to sleep. Almost 1 a.m.

No problem! That's a risk when you talk to people from all over the world: different time-zones. If we were all in the same time-zone I believe that would be boring...

Hi Brendi - I have two cats, two dogs, two chickens and about 20 tropical fish :-) I'm STILL an office worker but please GOD hopefully not for long - I'm over it now. I'm a writer too and have a few novels in the pipeline - this is one of my reasons for doing this too. Good luck in your endeavors :-)

Thank you for the nice post! Writing novels is a little scary. Put my first novel outline on the back burner until I get my business running successfully.

Hi Brendie. Thank you for adding me to your network here at WA. It's lovely to meet you. You really don't need a degree when it comes to affiliate marketing. You have plenty of experience in many things, whether you did a degree or not. I have one, and I'm not using it in terms of a career because of a change in circumstances, however I am able to use it on one of my niches, so all is not lost. Wishing you much success, Ange

I could probably have a niche in cooking as someone mentioned earlier. I'm starting to realize that a degree is not needed here. This is good!

Thank you for the compliments about the pets. I am just a simple servant.
My cat is 8 years old this past March. She is a half Manx mix and has a stubby tail, approximately 1/2 inch long. Her name is Baby Girl, aka the Troublemaker. I got first pick of the litter from a friend.
My dog is a Blue Heeler/Aussie mix. He is two years old this past January, I think. I adopted him February of this year. His name is Buddy, aka the Master Thief.

As a kid I had a VIC20, way back in the 80s before the Internet. Just hooked it up to the TV and play. Brothers had Atari.
Got my first lap top in 2009 but dabbled with computers off and on.

Well hello Brenda! I am basically the same way..... Very few computer skills but willing to learn. Sometimes I feel as if I grew up on a different planet and haven't even learned it's name yet. But I guess the 'Me Tonto, you Jane' concept should get me started. Only time will tell !! Thank you for following me.

Yes, grew up in the 70s and 80s. We didn't have all this technology so this is new ground for me. I do know a little bit about computers but this particular field, Internet Marketing, is a whole different area.
Thank you for following me. You're welcome for the follow!
