Is there a way to display the page on your menu by hovering your mouse pointer over it without clicking on the title?

oh good question see mackiejw gave you a the answer, goodluck

Great idea John and good information for pderr and the rest of us........Frank

Yes, If you make the menu tab non-clickable and your page a menu item
In menu "click on the little black arrow" on the right side and enter a # in the URL field
Then add the page to the menu as sub and when hovering over menu tab you get the effect you want
John

Thanks John. I've been trying to figure out just how to do that!

John...thank you for the reply....but....I am lost on the first step. When I click the arrow, it opens to display the Navigation Label and Title Attribute. I don't have a URL field. Please bear with my ignorance. :)

OK my bad
Go to Menus
Then on the left where you select the page
Click on URL
put in the number sign #
Add to menu
Then you see "menu item" Click on little Arrow and give it the name you want and put it in the menu 0rder
Then click on pages
ADD your page to menu and place under the newly created one (or when you already have the menu item for your page, just move it under the new one)
John

John...OK...that displays the 'page name' when I mouse over, but I still have to click to display page. I wanted to display page without the click...just mouse over. Sorry I didn't explain correctly....Pete

I don't think that's possible. I may be wrong
John

I just check yahoo and there is the gallery. When hover over, a larger box appears with an excerpt of the article....but I still have to click on it if I want to read it.
There is "j shortcodes" a plug-in with gallery functions. Check it out but it's not easy to do.
John

I saw this on several 'competitors' websites. I am sure they are custom designed. But, I gave up trying to find this in the Wordpress support forum....so I thought I would ask the 'smart' guys here. :) At least you verified why I am having a hard time finding this information. Maybe Wordpress doesn't have this feature. Thanks....Pete

Thanks John...I know it's not easy....for me IMPOSSIBLE. :) I am trying to find a theme with this kind of feature built in.....or a work-around for my theme. I will check out your advice and see where it takes me....Thanks....Pete

I use BackWPUp plugin. You can backup manually or set it up to do it automatically. I do mine manually, so I deactivate this plugin when not in use, and only activate it when I'm doing the backup. ~ Jude

I use this plugin, too, but I do it automatically because most of the time I am too busy to check it out. This is safer for me.

I will look into this. Thank you....Pete

On Saturday, I searched here and found video training from Kyle about backing up. I saved the file, just like his video trained. Hope this helps.

My website looks fine. ww.petesportstuff.com
When I go to the admin page to create a page...below the text area, there are normally sections to enter title, description, keywords, etc. These sections are gone...blank...on any new page and any existing pages. Are you talking about the info you can enter into the All in one SEO area? I noticed that word press did an update recently so things have moved around. Check the settings in the SEO plug in, if that in fact what you are talking about. Otherwise you might have to do a screen shot to show us.

Well...you actually fixed it for me! :) I could not find settings for this, you mentioned SEO plug in, I went back to look for settings again, and found that my SEO plugin was missing also. I re-activated it, and everything came back. I am not so bright with this stuff....but apparently you are! Thank you. And, thanks to everyone else trying to help me also.

Happy to help, I'm glad you've got it straightened out.

Does anyone know a good mobile site plug-in? I have tried several offered on the Wordpress site, and they are terrible. Very slow to load, and many navigation issues. Any sugges

I'm not a big fan of these plugins because they don't fully optimize your website for mobile devices. If you want a fully customized mobile friendly website, which does not alter anything from the original website you really have to have a developer do it.

I'm using WP Touch for now, as an interim measure. The Pro version offers Mobile themes as part of the pro upgrade, probably because they know that as good as the plugin is, it won't do the job fully with some themes. Well, not mine.

I'm waiting for my theme creator to finish his update early in the New Year to make my theme mobile responsive. Then I won't need the WP Touch plugin.

Such plugins are only an interim measure and you practically have to go to university to understand how to set them up. If you decide to try WP Touch, there are a few good You Tube videos. Best not to tamper too much with the default settings.

I take note of what Rich says about such themes possibly hijacking your traffic. My
stats tell me that visitors from mobile users is at less than 1% of my traffic, so at this stage, it is not a concern for me.

Looking ahead to the future, no one will need such plugins because theme creators won't survive unless they create mobile responsive themes, especially paid themes.

~Jude

Here is the link where you can find some mobile responsive WordPress themes

I agree with Rick and Rich.
Merry Christmas!

As Rick suggests, you should use a "responsive" theme rather than try to plugin around the problem. I'm afraid many of these free "mobile" plugins use their own servers to repurpose your site, add their own links and hijack traffic unless you're a paying customer. I'd avoid them. Rich.

Well...I wasn't sure what a 'responsive' theme was, so I looked it up. And, unless I miss my guess, I have one. So, since I have had nothing but trouble with the mobile plugins, and since you and Rick seem to think I don't need one, I have given up on the idea....with a sigh of relief! I THOUGHT I needed to have it.....nice to know I don't. :)

Hi. I'm not sure about using a plugin. Don't you need a "responsive theme" that adapts to desktops, phone, and tablets?

See my reply to Rich.....and thank you!....Pete

Sorry Pete, I am not there yet.

I read this in an article..... 'SEO rules dictate that only one H1 tag can exist on a given page. Many WordPress themes use multiple H1 tags on the sidebar for each widget, and

Thank for the tip Pete.

Isn't the post title in WordPress acutally in a H1 tag?

Yes, it is. I had heard there should be only one h1 tag in each post, not on an entire page of a website.

In fact, Google Webmaster Tools flagged one of my posts, saying there was more than one h1 tag in the post. I never did figure out where it was seeing a second one and the error has gone away.

Thanks, that what I thought. I never add H1 in post because of that.

It could be a rule, but who's to say it is or isn't. There are no sources cited for this statement and I would want to look further into this than just that page. I spoke to Kyle about this and he doesn't seem to indicate there is a problem with using more than one h1 tag on the same page.

It's like anything else - in moderation and don't overdo it. But it does, no doubt, warrant further investigation as you do have me curious about it now. If anyone, Kyle would know if this was was an issue or not.

I'm not done with research, but what Google says about h1 tags can be seen in the following document:

http://static.googleusercontent.com/media/www.google.com/en/us/webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf

It is found on Page 20 of this pdf file.

If your problem persists, go to appearance > editor> functions.php

and see if you have a code similar to the one that appears on this page, under the "Default Usage" section.

http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/register_sidebar

If you do, then change the H1 tag to H2 or H3 and save it.

Before you do though, save the entire code to a Notepad file. It is always a good idea to save the entire code before messing with it, just in case you mess up and have to replace the original code, which hopefully won't be necessary.

~Jude

This was BY FAR the most productive answer....and led to a FIX!!! Most people will tell you what to do....but NOT where to go to do it. You did. Thank you.....only one H1 tag on my page, which the SEO checks say is excellent. :)

Glad it helped, Pete. ~ Jude

Hi Pete, excuse my ignorance, but H1's are very BIG on my website. And I don't see anything on your sidebar looking like an H1 size. In fact your sidebar wording looks pretty much the size of many other sites I've seen.

What specific wording are you talking about? My blog titles are automatically posted at H1 and I've no idea on the wording in my sidebar, but it's smaller than my titles. And that's what yours looks like to me too.

What site are you referring to?

I understand. It doesn't LOOK like it is an issue, but when I run the various checks from different sites that check SEO, they ALL come back with the same errors. And, they are exactly as indicated in my original discussion above. If this is not really an issue, I would like someone to tell me this. If it IS an issue, I would like someone to tell me how to fix. :) Thanks for your reply.

Annie,

The size of the Tag is not an issue. H1 is the largest, you are right. However you can change the size of H1 to H6 tags in your style.css file if you wish each size to render differently across your site. This is done by changing the font size value for each tag.

The search engine does not care about the size of your font. It only identifies the H tag, and it likes to see it in the proper sequence, meaning the H1 tag identifies your title, and H2-H6 - should be subtitles in descending order of size.

The H1 tag in the Post and Page title is automatic for most themes in WordPress, as long as the title is added into the title field in the WordPress editor (not in the text page itself.)

~Jude

Hi Jude, yes I tried to find where I could alter this on my free zee theme, but I cannot locate it. I put my post headers in at H3, so they are smaller than the title H tag whatever that is. I'll go back to the Appearance/themes/editor and see if I can find dig around in there a bit after I've done some training on it.

Always more info, bit by bit! Thanks for sharing.

I would like to know how to change this I'm being told of too many H1 tags also

sorry if this is a stupid question- but I do not have a sidebar so I am curious. What exactly is an H1 tag.
If I ever utilize a sidebar I want to make sure I am not doing something incorrect.

TJ, side bar opens up when you want to add widgets and banners. When you go to Appearance, side in edit mode, you will notice side bar, that's where you drag items you want in the side bar.

Thanks Gordi! I guess I will utilize it once I ad some banners- which should be within the next week or so.
If I have any questions concerning H1 tags I may come back and ask you :)

The

tag is for styling your headlines. What this does is makes the text larger and bolds it. There are several sizes,

being the biggest. There's

,

,

,

, and < h6>.

The titles in your WP site are powered by

tags.

Hello, i don't know if that will help you, but i use bing webmaster tools to analyse my website and he always tell me when they're is more than 1 H1 tags so i can remove it :)

Well...that is my issue. In order to remove them, I would have to get rid of EVERYTHING on my sidebar. Bing tells me they are ALL in error. Instead of having a blank sidebar, I would rather change the H1 tags.....if I knew how. :)

Maybe you have to go on the editor and change some part of the code ,anyway you can do everything with wordpress :)
