Hello WA, I've just added my first exit pop-up. It's a video pop-up rather than text based, it's pointing to the 2 free websites within Wa bootcamp.
I think the video is
Hi Sarah it's a plugin I bought with added software. I wouldn't know how to do it otherwise :)
Hi - I personally am fed up of them - but at the same time, I expect them these days.
And to be honest - it's like looking in the bargain bin. If you're being offered something, and you know that all you have to do is move your mouse towards the "close X" to get a better offer... well I'll take a look.
I've read that the popups do convert though - so you may annoy some visitors who are just kicking the tyres, but if you get a better conversion rate from people who may be serious about your offer, then it may well be worth it.
You're in this to make a business, to make money - so tyre kickers will come and go - people like me, will expect an exit pop-up, and may actively look for it - so my advice would be to test it.
Have it on your site for a couple of weeks - take it off your site for a couple of weeks - see what worked better for you. If you're pop-up plugin allows, then do split testing - where it happens for some visitors, and not others - and then measure the results.
I hope that helps?
All the best, Mark
Hi Mark I know what you mean by getting a better deal by exiting the site, I do that sometimes. This pop-up is sending them to a page for the 2 free websites only. Split testing sounds a good idea, thanks :)

Been looking through the site trying to find the answer to this.
I want my homepage to show a short description of all my posts then a read more button. At the moment my p
All you need to do is turn your posts into excerpts by using the "insert Read More tag" in your WordPress editor toolbar.
Okay, now open the editor and scroll to the bottom right hand column and you'll see "Set Featured image" Click that and choose the image you want to display.
Click update and your done :)
Hi Jovo, thanks for that. Iv'e sorted it, I just need to put the page break where I want it. So easy when you know how eh!
If you have lost image then this is the matter of theme, I know this from my own case, some will not allow you featured image to put in blog roll excerpts.
I believe you can find the option to manage your post display through the theme options. You can find it under the appearance section on your website dashboard.

I know to put in place an alt text for my images but not sure what to do with the drop down box which shows this for the url of the image.
media file
attachment page
Link to none if you want it to go nowhere
If you link to media file, it will be clickable and shows the image in a separate page
John
Thanks John, that's the bit I wasn't sure of. I thought if I didn't link to something the search engines wouldn't read the alt text
They crawl the alt text and image name, so make sure it doesn't say
xyzimage1.jpeg, give the images a real name. For my reviews, I use the product name and review for one, 'what is product name' for the second and so on. Sneak some keywords in it.
It depends what you do with images, there are many things about them, like attachment page redirect, size etc. As SmallBiz101 says, they see empty space only, poor content, so put some into alt text, including keyword. See more here:

Thanks Jovo, if I want to link the image then no problem. The worry arose when I just wanted an image and I couldn't work out whether to put none or link it to the image file. Thanks for the link to your website.
Another problem solved :)
Search engines will read the title and alt text. You don't need the images to link to anything unless you want to. Just make sure they have meaningful titles and text, with appropriate keywords.
Thanks Sara, I've been doing that, more through luck than design. These little problems tend to grow out of proportion after awhile. I should have asked the question weeks ago.
You're right about growing out of proportion. I'm a photographer, so as you can imagine...lots of images. Images not keyworded/titled properly. Rebuilding entire website lol.

An SEO check on a page tells me I have too many h1 tags. I have gone back to the editor but I don't have too many at all. I have written the page making sure I don't use any. Is
Hi John the software is seo doctor the page url is http://moolahstation.com/getting-started the software is saying I have 2 h1 tags
Dave, I looked at your page source code. The theme you are using obviously makes your Website name an and your site tag line an
tag by default.
Throughout your content you use tags which is absolutely correct. Since you are not using
anywhere else you have nothing to worry.
