Yes, the title is an h1 heading. You should go ahead and try to use your keyword in an h2 as well.
The page Title that type in at the top of the page and post will be your H1 heading. As far as I know, all the WordPress themes are set up so that the Page Title is a H1 heading.
I generally make the meta title that shows in the snippet AIO SEO I use as the heading on my typed page at the beginning of my article and that will be my H2 heading.
thanks Verna...but would search engines read my H1 value as "0" if I leave the page title box blank, seeing it's SEO already?
You can't leave it blank. That is how the permalink is created that identifies your article that will get indexed on Google so your pages and posts get ranked. Its SEO already because wordpress editor automatically makes it a H1 heading for you, but you have to tell it what to call your page or post. Naming it is not done by the SEO. It is a manual action by you. Try to make it a keyword if possible. Also, any other heading size (H2, H3, H4, H5, H6) must be done manually by you ot you can set it up one time via the "Customize".

Yes, page/post titles default to H1 tags. If you right click on one of your pages and select view source, you can scroll down and see that the title is enclosed within an H1 tag.
I think the only way to undo them would be to change the default settings in the CSS layout, but I don't believe it would be a trivial change.

That's true...but my concern was if the Page Title box (the section above the main page for your content in edit mode) was both automatically set as an H1 tag, and SEO readied in your page's content, and reflected as such to search engines. Can anyone could confirm if this is the case or not?
If it is, is there some way to change it? And...What happens if the Page Title box is left blank...would it appear to search engines as though there's a "0" value for your H1 tag, since the page title BOX may already be automatically inserted into your page and SEOed?
Always add title in the title box. Add it also in the meta-title box in SEO part in Edit Page.
The titles are usually H1 yes. If you put more than 1 H1 google webmasters will give you an error. It says you should only have 1 H1 tag on a page. Not sure if it hurts rankings but that is what I know about H1 tags.
