I'm back with yet one more question. I never had any of these problems with the first two sites. I have no idea what's going on with this one! Howsumever. . .

I can't get

UPDATE: The site was inaccessible since about 10 p.m. last night my time. I thought it might resolve overnight. When it didn't, I wrote this help request after about 2 hours of pulling my hair out this morning. In the you ain't gonna believe THIS department, the site just let me in in both browsers. I have no idea how or why, but it's working. . . for now. Thanks for everything, you guys! This community is worth the price of WA alone!!!

That's great, the angles were watching you, lol

Must be. I don't know why. Until the next time, eh? :)

Whow, your having some of the same problems I had with my first site. I finally had to delete mine. Sure hope you can get it fixed.

Thanks, Sharon. About to post an update.

Has it something to do with administrator? You have to set yourself as administrator not as author

I'm in there as Admin and me as a User and both are admin, Loes. It was fine up until late yesterday and I haven't made any changes since this happened. :(

Hi Carla, you mention multiple sites?
Are all the sites hosted on the same server?
Who are they hosted with?
Do you use a password manager like LastPass?
Have you cleaned your browsers "cache" to make sure old information is not automatically being entered.
Where exactly did you make the Password change?

I don't see if you "thought you had the wrong password" how you were able to reset or change the password in the first place...

If you clean the cache and also try a different browser and are still locked out definitely put in a support ticket. Some of the information doesn't sound right and tech support should be able to look at the log and see what happened, when and from where.

Tried most of that, Kevin. It took the user name in the WP sign-in screen so I did the "lost password" from that screen and everything worked just fine. But then the new PW would not work either. No, I don't use LastPass. Cleaned cache. All sites hosted right here at WA. I'm about to go to Tech Support and see if they can help me. And, yes, it is on both Chrome and Firefox. (

I would sign in again and do the "lost password" as you did before and when it asks for the "New Password" enter in your orginal password as the new and see if you can log in. If the MySql database is corrupted it could present problems at the admin level and not really at the user or visitor level. If you are able to login I would still submit a support ticket and have them take a look, obviously something is not working right. I hope you/they get it fixed, I know how frustrating it can be.

Some times Carla I find that I have to go to History and delete all past history, and I go to Clean Disk. Some times this clears up a lot of problems I run into on occasion.
Might help. But a support ticket sounds like the thing to do.
Happy Trails Carla, and keep us posted

Thanks, Frank!

Very strange that two people have the same problem.
A support ticket sounds like the right path to follow.

Carla, I'm getting the same message! I'm fine with my first site, the second one won't let me in either. Good grief.

Maddening, isn't it?

Yes! It's so weird that you and I are both having the same exact issue.

Did yours resolve?

I don't have a clue... I would put in a support ticket and ask them to look into it for you. That's the best i can do.
Good luck

Will do. Thanks, David!

Try to use other browsers ? May be cookie? Or try with other pc n see.

Tried multiple browsers and get the same message.

I am never the right one to ask these things to Carla.I am not the most experienced with word press.Maybe you should issue a support ticket.

Yeah, Mark, I think that is my next step.

This one's going to take some explanation. ARGHHHH

I keep getting emails from my new website using the exact site name. However, the email address is different (natch). When

This is the setup I used for a contact form, also goes through setting up captcha for it. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-add-a-contact-form-to-wordpress
Hope you get it sorted. :)

Thanks, Kathy!

where is this happening for you
- is this in the comments area
- if it is, it could be a pingback

just something to check out

hope this helps

Sadly, it's coming from my contact form. I guess I'll have to rethink this one. UGH

Carla - my heart goes out to you because I can't imagine how aggravating this is for you! It is beyond my expertise to attempt to help you, but I just wanted you to know that I'm in your corner! God Bless! ~Cathy

Thanks, Cathy. Means a lot!

Please check you have only one user Carla, go to dashboard, all users and make sure that you are the only user then uncheck the new members can be administrators.

Admin and me are the only users and admin is me, too. I don't have the subscriber thing checked because I don't want people registering. And the window about roles says Subscriber as default. Not sure what else to do here. Pulling out last gray hair! The ads are getting worse.

A bit lame an answer but have you tried support, although not sure if they can help

I just found it. Abigail was right. It's my contact form. They're sending me advertising through my contact form which is in the right-hand sidebar. I had a few people test if and the emails are exactly the same except for the fact that those emails are legit, not the crappy ones. Now I'm not sure what to do. I need that form there. I have another site that uses the exact same form and it's never happened before.

Can you add a CAPTCHA to the side bar contact form? . That would reduce the spam. As the ones you're receiving won't be sent by humans.

Well is there a ghost loose in WA?????LOL This is getting crazy, hopr you get it resolved soon.

Apparently.

I would be curious if somebody has created a site with a character different and it's so close to what yours is, it looks the same. I'm the type that does these types of searches via IP addresses. In order to get that, you'll need this link. I have used this a couple times whenever I get an email from somebody that it would appear to be right, but the email contents aren't right. http://www.iptrackeronline.com/how-to-extract-email-headers.php

Thanks, but I have no idea what that site is talking about. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened and it's my third site.

Hi Carla, I believe someone has filled out your contact form to your website. This email you got is the notification. It is showing where the email was sent (to your site name) and from whom sent it (the other email). You can then choose to respond or delete the message depending on whether it is spam or a valid message. Hope this helps. :)))

No, it's not that, Abigail. It comes in my inbox with my site name as the return address and it's spam crapola like you would get if someone left it on the site. Although it has my name on it, it's not my email address. I had my contact form tested and it works fine, so I'm not sure what this junk is. UGH

Yes I know, that is how they look when you get the notification, meaning your website name will come up in your inbox. I receive my website name in my inbox too. You then click on it and the details of who sent the message will be in there when you open it. I think a random is using your contact form to send the spam.

Why not set a test up and see if this is it. Wishing you great success. :)))

Thanks! I'm having a few folks fill out the contact form. And, of course, the latest one is an ad for Viagra. SHEESH!!!!!!!!!

Hope the issue gets sorted out. Whether or not it is your contact form, at least you can rule it out. It would be pretty darn annoying to find someone going out of their way to use your name and details to send spam!!!

What kills me is that it has my real site name on it. And now the site comes up correctly. The email is totally something else, but my site is on there and the ads are mainly for sex stuff. I need to find a way to stop it. SIGH

Abigail, I owe you an apology. You were right. It IS the contact form in the sidebar. The people who tested it for me came through in the exact same way. I need that form. How do I stop people from abusing it? ARGHHHH

I am so glad you figured it out, Carla. It looks to be one way spammers can contact us to advertise etc... I blacklisted the ones that did this to me. From what I researched, do not click on anything they send or even unsubscribe if given the option as it could be what they want.

You can blacklist them so they can no longer access your email. Unfortunately some people, and not robots will do this manually into your contact form. Spam is one of those things that is impossible to get rid of 100%. Also adding a CAPTCHA can help (although there are a few low lifes actually doing this spam manually).

I have also found a couple articles after I google searched the solution that offer ideas to help reduce this from occurring.

http://www.web-form-buddy.com/html-wfb/form-spam.html

http://ostermiller.org/contactform/spam.html

I think there might be a few sites that have done posts about this issue that could help. I hope you find a solution, I too need my contact form and can not get rid of it.

Thanks, Abigail. I'll go read those articles. I really want the one that's there. I may leave it unless it gets overwhelming. I'm going to try a couple of other ones to see if there's anything I like.

Did you check your email tab in your website/hosting menu

I'll have to go look. You mean on the dashboard?

No, in your profile page on your website/hosting tab there is an email tab on The top right side

Tommy, there's no email set up for this account here as I use a private one. I just checked and it's not there.

There should be one there that says info@website.com. If not here follow this training video I created to get one.

I'm yanking out my last gray hair here. I have tweaked and tweaked my website to show up on Facebook, but I get the huge blob person instead of the image I've chosen.

(1) T

Good question. I have the same problem! I will wait for your answers.

Hang in there. We WILL get this worked out!

Yeah hopefully we will some day.. :)

That,s too deep for me Carla.Hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks, Mark.

Hi Carla, facebook can have so many issues like this. I too am having similar issues with them crawling and sharing the wrong images. It can be frustrating when you want the articles to be shown in the best light.

I sometimes post the link directly to my business page and upload an image I want to share with it. This does not fix what images other people might get to share though. I did the debugging also and even when it comes back as the right image, they can get it wrong.

I do believe there are some plugins that can help, when you can put the url of the image you want to be used and also set a default image for when featured image is not picked up.

As for G+... I have never had any issues with them and images. They are pretty good at selecting the right images. I hope you find the answers and everything flows very soon. Keep us updated with any solution. I am sure many would have this issue at some point. All the best. :)))

Will do, Abigail. I've done that, too, posting an independent image, but then if folks share. . . yuck. I'm going to go through plug-ins, just in case. Arghhhhh

I had this happening to me. My turned out to be a plugin. Mine was Ultimate Social Share. It would not let me set an image on this plugin. So I switched to Shareaholics and set my default image and it seems to be working now. I do have to set my image for it to work when I create a new post but at least it is working now. It was very frustrating to see the blob guy. I had to go through my plugin's one by one until I figured out which one it was. I am going to try what louellen suggested and see if it will auto pull an image. Good luck!

The only plug-in I've changed recently is switching contact forms. I had Contact Form 7 on there and I added a plain contact form that sits in the sidebar. I've never had this problem with either of my other two sites that I've built and I had them up side by side matching the way the pages were checked. Hmmm The plot sickens, as they say. ;)

Hope you get it figured out. It seems it just started with my website recently. Before I was not having that issue. That is why I figured it had to be a plugin. I have noticed others that are getting the same thing when I see their shares on Google+. Some people might not know this is happening to them. If I see it I try and let them know.

Carla - not sure if you've also updated the AIO SEO "Social Media" feature (Not the one for individual posts." On the dashboard at the top left area where it says "All in One SEO", do you have the sub-menu option that says "Social Meta?" If not, try to enable it by

1) Selecting "Feature Manager"
2) Activate the "Social Meta" feature. This will now show up as an option under ALL IN ONE SEO
3) Select the "Social Meta" menu option
4) Third section down is titled "Image Settings" Where the option that says "Select OG:Image Source" select "First Available Image" from the drop down menu
5) Under that, check the box where it says "Use Default If No Image Found"
6) Upload a general default image you want in case it DOESN'T locate the post image (anything is better than the blob man)
7) Click Update Options to save your settings.

Then give it a go, and also post here when you want us to test it out.
Oh, don't forget to refresh your page.

Thanks! I did that page yesterday, but will doublecheck that I have all the correct settings when I get back here later on today. Appreciate it!

Okay. I had to try it. It absolutely will NOT let me set a default image. I go through the whole thing and when I click save, it disappears and defaults back to what is in the box. Grrrrr

Thank you @louellen for this comment. I now know to activate Social Meta.

Was this in the training? Cos if yes, I sure as hell missed this part!

I have the same problem as @Carlalves. I just contacted SiteSupport. Hope they're able to help...

Wow! How frustrating! I sure hope you have gotten this resolved!

Not yet, but I'm working on it, Christa!

Oh MY! I sure wish I could help, but alas, I am not there yet! :(

That's okay. I appreciate the support, Christa!

Is this a personal FB? Did you add a business page to it? Make sure the ID is correct! If it is you shouldn't even have to use the debugger. I also know that different social plug ins do different things.

It doesn't work on my personal profile OR my business page, sadly. And, yeah, the ID is okay. I double checked all the Social meta settings in AIO SEO with the instructions right from their site. So. . . ???

I know this is upsetting and you feel powerless. It took me days to be able to do the FB sharing to my liking. I would delete the ID's and start from scratch. Delete any old cookies you might have also. I went to the knowledge base on FB and got many of my answers there. I wish I had the answer!

Thanks! I've tried a lot of that, but later on I will be working on it again. Appreciate the help, Rochelle!

All this is very time consuming. I just spent 2 days fixing my Twitter account. They kept me going around in circles. I try everything when something goes awry, I would even send your social plug in an email. Sometimes they give you the answer, or at least point you to the right direction.

I found this infor...is it of any use?

Your ID looks like a page ID rather than an admin ID. You need to supply the user ID of one or more admins for this page, or switch to an fb:app_id instead of an fb:admin meta tag.

If you wish to stick with the fb:admin approach you can enter your Facebook username rather than the numeric ID, which is probably easier to debug and manage, you can find your user name on your profile page in the page URL eg if you page is facebook.com/johndoethen your username is johndoe. If you want to get your numeric ID for any reason you can find it by visiting: http://graph.facebook.com/johndoe

It might if I had any idea what that means, Rosie. LOL I never had any problems with the previous two websites as long as I set up the social settings in AIO SEO. They're set up in this one, but. . . arghhhh

Have you added any plugins lately? They can sometimes screw it up....????

I think so. I'm going to go see what's new today. I keep my plug-ins to a minimum, but I think I did add one or two.

This is beyond my expertise, but I want to know the answer because I sometimes use the debugger and still don't get my photos to show up

When I find the solution, Kristy, I'll post it here. Promise!

Are you using the Attachment Pages Redirect plug in by chance?

Nope. Never even heard of it. Should I be?

Well, yes you should. But for a different reason.
The reason I asked is I am experiencing the same problem with one of my sites right now with Facebook and am trying to figure out why. That plug in is the only thing I have changed lately.

I'll go look it up to see what it does. I have an idea from the name, but. . I try to use as few plug-ins as possible. If there is another way, I go that way. ;)

I understand. This plug in is actually a fix for a WordPress
flaw I guess

I have a 3-column layout on my new site. The left and right sidebars are 125 wide. Adsense has a square with that dimension, but the skyscrapers are either 120, 160 or 300. I have

Can you go into your editor or html and change the pixel sizes?

I figured it out, Rosie. It's on the AdSense screen. :) I just didn't see it before.

Once again, Carla triumphs! I learn so much from you...thank you.

oops, i would said no you can't....
time for me to learn how!

It's not that hard. You just have to click the right thing.

Like life itself... Just click the right buttons :-)

I'm still learning something new everyday. Thanks for asking the question Carla. :-) ~Marion

You're welcome, Marion! I always say that when you stop learning, it's time to jump in the box and pull the lid over you. :)

Thanks guys - learned a whole lot more in here - again!

Wow your deep. One day I will answer one of your questions and be the first and RIGHT!

I'm sure you will! I'm asking a lot lately, too. :)

glad to hear you got it resolved all the best

Thanks!

You're out of my league but I see you have an answer. Gilles

Yes. Everyone's been great, as usual, Gilles.

Your over my head again, hope you find the answer!

I did, Sharon. Thank you!

Yes you can but I found the process rather confusing.

Thanks! I figured it out. :)

When I was adding ads to my site I saw an option right in Google Adsense where you see the banner sizes to select customize.

I'll look. All I saw was to choose the various sizes they offer. Hmmm Let me go look again, Kim. Thanks!

Okey dokey!

You're right, Kim! I went in and got the banner exact. Of course, there is a warning like Alan posted here. I'm going to have to check out the site on my tablet and phone to see how the ads show up. If they don't work well, I'll just use the narrower one.

That is awesome. Here is a link to check mobile compatibility:
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

Thanks, Kim! It says my site is mobile-friendly, but I can't see it correctly on my iPhone. I think I'm about to go bang my head on the desk. . . hard and fast. LOLOL

Lol, maybe your not being user friendly when viewing on your phone..Lol...That is Google's mobile check too.
I know on my phone I can't see anything in the side bar as far as ads go.....

I have two resizing programs. I'd like to use my new website banner on my matching FB biz page. I have resized it ad nauseam and created a copy of it exactly to the specs FB says y

Carla - this is going to be a really weird suggestion. My photoshop is on another computer on XP so I've not used it for ages. I've been making do with - believe it or not, Powerpoint and Microsoft paint (hehehe). Anyway, here's how I did my FB banner. I found that you have to get the proportion right (eg, they say 400x150 px minimum). So, if you do provide that, know that FB will automatically stretch your image out to fit their box. I did this, and guess what? Blurry. So I fooled around with the setting and finally ended up with a pixel of 839x368. Don't ask how, but these measurements are in proportion and fit the FB banner exactly how I wanted.

By the way, if you're going to do the cheat way with powerpoint, then draw a blank box with these dimensions 11.78" x5.14". Then you can play around with your images and banner contents to fit within this box. Save it as a jpg, Open it up on Paint, and clean it up on there.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Louellen. I wimped out and had someone do it for me. :) It had to be resized in the proper proportions. I don't have Photoshop but I usually resize in Irfanview.

OMG Carla! Where do you get all this energy...I want some of what she's having.
Sorry don't have an answer for you.

LOL I'm slow now considering what I was like in my younger years. :)

Wow by the time you get through all this you are going to be able to teach most all of us a thing or two! :)

I hope so, Christa! I got help with this one and it looks great. I'll post the FB page on here when it's finished. I'm updating an old page.

It will all be brand new soon! :)

Great, this will be one that i'm sure will have to be addressed by me in the future.

You are having your problems with that new website. Sorry about that.

I know. But when I get it "just right," I'll have learned a lot. The hard way, as usual, but I still will have learned. :)

I would have thought months ahead until I could give you any advise Carla... SpeedyCarla due to activity and progress. However I do think I got just the thing you need here ! Take back the power and get it done as only a lady can ! https://www.canva.com/

Thanks! I've seen that program before. Every time you sign in, it asks you to share it with your friends or to import my contacts, which is why I don't use it. Appreciate the help!

Ah okey............ kinda figured, was too good to be true.... "rolling up sleeves.." ........ Never noticed that myself, gotta check.

and np

Do you want to send the file, I'll do it for you. :)

Thanks, Kathy!

If the actual pixel size is correct it could have something to do with the resolution. Do you know if the file you're uploading is 72dpi?

I don't know. I'd have to check in properties. Something else to look at, hmmm? :) Let me check, Jo. Thanks!

No probs! I'm happy to look at the image you're using if that would help, just let me know :)

Thanks, Jo! Kathy is playing with it for me right now. We should have a photo party! It's in the wrong proportion, which is apparently the problem.
