I'm Carla Ives, Jill of many trades, master of a few. I'm a writer, editor and former history teacher (still full time history nut). I've been blogging for years, but never seemed to be able to make any money out of it. I figured it was time for some professional help when I saw Eddy Salomon's promo for this site.
What do I want? To make a living so I don't have to go back out to work. That would be difficult due to some medical problems. I know it's not an overnight thing. I'm willing to work at it. Anyone who has any ideas or would like to help, I'm all ears!

I would love to help, but you need someone much more techy than I am. You see how many questions I ask of others. :) I'm a writer, not a website builder. Did you fill in the title and tag line in Customize? Go to your Dashboard and then click Appearance, then Customize. You should see a section marked Title/Tag Line. Make sure it's filled in. Save your changes and refresh your screen. See if that helps. That's the only thing I know how to do for it.

Content is what you write. You will need articles about kids shoes, general articles. You could write about fit, style, trends, etc. Those are your posts. Yes, you can join an affiliate program, but they like to see content before they approve you. Have you looked at my verydressyflats.com site? It's about dressy flat shoes. I haven't posted i awhile as I'm on a bit of a hiatus, but it might give you some ideas. Good luck!

I know what you mean. In the visual view, you have to click just to the right of your picture and then hit the return key. Then add the next picture. I hope this helps!

Hi Carla, I got everything set on my pay pal account. There is one more thing I need help with, on the page where it said's tell me about your business. I need to know what the subcategory is, so far I got individual and financial services and products. I don't know if it has to do with finance company or financial investment advice. Thank!

I honestly don't know, Clinton. As I said, I've had my accounts for years. I would pick the one you think is closest. You can probably change it later. If you're really unsure, give them a call. I've always found their customer service good. I wish you luck with your new accounts! Paypal has been invaluable for me.

Hello, Carla, thanks for the follow, returned. While in the printing and publishing industry I also wrote and edited articles for various publications, some of them based on historical facts which I had researched. Although I enjoy reading historical fact (not fiction as many are) I believe that dwelling too much on the past can sometimes lead to a negative approach. I believe that yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future, and tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life (hope this doesn't sound too cynical). We still live in a world of greed where many, like Oliver Twist, keep asking for more while millions all over the world live in abject poverty, suffering hunger and disease, where bigots and fanatics commit murder and mayhem in the name of their God, whoever God may be, where warring factions shed the blood of innocent victims in their belief that they are right, where despots and dictators, as in medieval times, rule by terror, subjecting anyone who questions their power to torture and death.
It all brings to mind the line "When Will They Ever Learn" in Pete Seeger's "Where Have All The Flowers Gone".
If only more people would embrace the words of John Lennon's "Imagine", then maybe, just maybe,we will have learned something.

That ranking, as you know, is strictly social engagement, Janelle. I have a big mouth and fast fingers. I was a teacher and I love answering questions and helping people where I can. My sites are very much "beginner." I'm a writer so the copy is the easy part. The techy stuff is another story. Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks, Ed. I kind of liked the red/white/black color scheme, but I WILL take a look at a different color. Thanks for the suggestion! I just changed it to a soft blue which looks easier for me. I tried several different colors and they all "glared" like the red. When you mouse over an individual item, though, it's still red. Would you please take a look now if you get the chance and let me know what you think? Thanks!

It used to a lot more than it does today but it does help to instantly tell the big 3 search engines what your website is about. Using low hanging fruit keywords one for each page and content are far more important, and also imagages and linking functionality?
Make sure all links work correctly and it is easy for visitors to navigate their way around the website? Test and test again once completed and update frequently. These factors are what really matter.

I agree! When we got to that point in history, I used to have a project for my students, something like: The Wright Brothers made a plane from spit and chicken wire that flew for seconds. A mere 10 years later, they were having dogfights in the skies of Europe! What do you think accelerated the development of modern aircraft to that point? They hated it, but they came up with some good answers. :) If I had to pick a period, it would be Civil War, but WWI gets shorted most of the time.

Yeah the civil war is more of an American tradition I think. I'm from Australia, so I don't have the same passion for it is the good ol' boys from the south! Such a waste though.
I love WW1 history because in many ways it was the first modern conflict, and paved the way for enormous technological advances in weaponry and equipment, aircraft being a point in case. It's a fascinating period in history.

Thanks Carla!....been busy for the last day trying to figure out a menu glitch?! Watched a couple of Jays excellent videos and read more tutorials and still no luck....so I made a NEW site and started from scratch. I couldn't get the menu to recognize the pages or catagories that I could drag and drop to the right to add to menu. Anyway....I did a "Search" ( menu tab on left side) and the pages showed up? I don't know why it works on some pages and not others? It is supposed to automatically show up? My menu location was ok? At least I know everything about menus I guess now? heheh. That's the best way to learn. The hard way, At least I'll remember. I think I'm finally getting the hang of it (famous last words)? Just feels good to ride the wave of that steep learning curve! Now I can finally produce something?! Though it is going to be extremely simple, simple simple until I can take on more bells and whistles. If it happened to me....it is happening to others, so maybe this will help someone. This is getting long Eeeks!
