In lesson 7 of Bootcamp, Kyle explained how to create a drop down menu. Now I am trying to post content and I have no idea why it is not linking to my menu. It is under Let's G

As Marty mentioned, going to the appearance than menu is you best bet ;)

Thank you Alex!

No problem :)

I actually bought a very customizable theme and build on my blogs on it. This way I don't have to learn other themes :)

That is a great idea! Every theme is different, and it probably is never going to be exactly as we'd like. A customized them might be something of interest to me. I have tried several themes and none have really appealed to me.

I use Divi by Elegant Themes. I think the price is fair and the theme support is amazing :)

I may want to check it out. Thank you Alex......Theme support is definitely what I am looking for and twenty-thirteen is not cutting it for me.

;)
Divi (or actually Elegant Themes as a company) have a pretty great forum with support staff who know those themes inside out ;)

Hi Diane, If you go to Appearance >menue. you will see where you can add a page or post on the left then your post will be in a box under your website pages. You can drag it into the position that you want. If youy slide it to the right it becomes a sub-page or post. If you go Menu>widget you can create a widget for your post.

I hope this helps.

Marty

Thanks Marty! I made it a sub-page, but wanted to post something on the sub-page but couldn't figure out how to do it.

You have to click edit in your dashboard then you can change and add content, pics and links. I have added content to pages. You have to hit update and wait for the little wheel to stop then you can preview what you added.

Marty

Thanks Marty! I will let you know how it goes.

Hi dianegailit, hope this will help you. https://bobwp.com/create-wordpress-navigation-menus. Good luck!

Thank you! It can be a little frustrating when you are a newbie like I am, and have no idea what to do ;-) I really appreciate your input. I will check it out!

Hi dianegailit, you are not alone, we are in the same boat, I am tech troubleshooter but my knowledge is not what I want in my website, but trying all my best to have it done.

Sometimes it takes me SO long to figure out something that is probably very simple.....if I only knew how to do it ;-) I am learning more and more each day! I love creating my website, but I wish I was more 'wordpress savvy'.

I do think that nobody is perfect at first, it's like the first time we went to school, need to finish the first level before reaching the top but with patience and perseverance, we will get to success also.

Here is a website that is helping me also when it comes to wordpress, ithemes.com. This site is a tutorial of wordpress. Hope this helps

Thank you very much! :-)

Welcome.

I agree with Loes, I have heard the same thing! Never have tried it and so I have learned something new...

An incompatible plugin can wreck your website, test it first!

Good idea! Thank you Loes :-)

I have wrecked several test sites, even with testing compatible plugins

I had this same question and PMd PJGermine about it. That's my go-to person with any about SumoMe. I went ahead and installed the plugin and have not had any issues with it even though it said "This plugin has not been tested with your current version of WordPress."

Thank you Cathy! That is very good to know. I am going to go ahead and add the plugin :-)

I usually wait a few days and a serious developer usually makes sure they update the plugin :)

Thank you Alex!

That warning is on anything that was produced before the latest update to WP. Most of the plugins have been around longer than that. I have success with the plugins I use without worrying about this warning.

Great! Thank you Barry for the information! Now I feel confident that I can add the SumoMe plugin! :-) Have a great day :-)

Me too!

works great I love it - just use it

Thank you Paul!

I could use a little help friends. I am trying to remove the date and uncategorized from my homepage. Is there a specific plugin that I need to use for this theme? I have been

The only way I got Rid of uncategorized was to name it something else.

I did that but I just did not like how it looked, and wanted to get rid of both that and the date.....so for now, I just made my Let's Get Started page my homepage.

Diane, some themes do not allow you to remove the date (but many others do).
You can also do a search for plugins that allow you to do so ;)

I did a search for plugins, and tried one, but it did not work. I will check and see if there is another one that might work. I really wanted to have a home page, but as an alternative I can use one of my pages as my home. Thanks again for your advice!

Hi,

The homepage is usually the blog roll page and will always show the date and a category. Your most current post will appear here.

When you write your post you can assign a category to it. Uncategorized is the default category. I don't know if unchecking the uncategorized category box on your post, will cause it to be blank on the page or not.

Or you can make one of your "pages" be the homepage.

By going into the "settings", "reading" in your wordpress dashboard, you can specify a page you have published as your homepage(Front page) . With a page instead of post as your homepage, there will not be a date or a category.

Pat

Thank you Pat. I tried taking off uncategorized & date, and had no success. It is still showing up as November, 2015 and uncategorized.

I will take your advice and make one of my pages the homepage. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again!

Diane

Have you gotten resolution to your problems yet Diane?

E

I hope you have this all figured out!

From what you've written I understand that you have your own domain and have created it in WordPress.

You can point your domain to WA Hosting and hopefully continue with it here.

This is a question for SiteRubix Support, which you will find under the light blue SiteRubix heading at the top left Smart Menu.

I'm sure they will be able to better inform you.

yes well i developed some kind of blog? Dont know if it meets any approvals of anyone? but i had fun making it? thats the main thing it may get someones attention I am off now to Philippines as I told Carson I done what I can do for now with little of what I learned. Now I shall be back on 7 January 2016 SO I WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. I hope to get a new laptop
when I get back because this one is jumps when i write.
bye for now/ i would start a new website darling love the puppy dog bye

You can still do work on your Website if you take a labtop with you and obtain access to the internet. In any case, have a safe and pleasant trip and all the best.

It would be easier for anyone to help you if you provide specific questions.

If you are having trouble with WordPress overall it may be wise to go through the training and work through building another site. It won't hurt you to have two sites and honestly a website with your name is not a very promising way to get traffic and convert sales.

You will learn about building a site around a niche and believe me it is super simple.

Hold onto your other site and when you've completed the training go back and tweak it.

If you need anything let me know.

ROCK ON!
E

I would recommend the training courses, since you already have a website you have a head start, just follow the training and you should be ok.
