I would like to put a different picture on each page of my site. Is that possible?

My theme supports it. You can randomize any number of header pictures which change each time the page is refreshed. (Aspen theme). You can use theme pictures or your own.

Carla, I remember I put a logo I had designed in my header and someone who knows a lot recommended me to just keep the Word Press default heading. He told me the site would look cleaner, neater and would be less distracting. I am not an expert on this....just passing on a recommendation I received some weeks ago. Blessings!
Hilda

I don't think I understand Hilda.........right now mine says Carla's Healthy Pet Products, with a picture of pets below it. I'm going to your website to see what you mean. Thank you!

Do you mean like your home page header, or just a header at the top of the page.

I use graphene and it has an option for each page/post to change the header picture.

Thanks for this explanation!
Hilda

What is graphene? Is that a theme within WordPress?

Yes!

Could you tell me about graphene Howard?

You can visit my website at yourfulltimervliving.com if you want to see what I have done with it. I still have not activated the left column yet.

I'll check it out. Thank you!

Your site is absolutely beautiful Howard! I need to think about changing my theme!

I have a siterubix test site so I can try out different themes and plugins without affecting any of my "real" websites. If you want to try out a few different themes such as Graphene and Mantra then you could set up a test site to try them out. ~Marion

Thanks! I did have to add a plugin to make the text larger without having to use H tags. I added WP Edit to make text more adaptable. That was the only way I could figure out how to get the job done.

You know far more than I do!

No, I learned that one from someone else here at WA that was having a similar problem as I was. That's what's great about WA!

GREAT IDEA! Thanks!

I totally agree!

I think it is at least in part a function of your theme. I know mine allows for multiple header pictures, but there may be a page limit.

So confusing.........the more I look at things the more confused I get. Not good I know.

I figured it would be in the code. NOT my area of expertise. . . . YET.

Why not post a banner under image but I believe you can only have one header.

I found a thread in the Wordpress forum asking the same question. There is a plugin for what you want .
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/theme-yoko-how-to-put-different-header-image-on-each-page-not-random

Good luck. :)

Thanks so much!

Thanks Kathy. Today you have been a great source of links and resources! Blessings!
Hilda

You're welcome!

Never seen it or heard of it. Bigger question is ... what value would different pictures on each page bring? Where is the branding? Hope this helps and God Bless! ~Cathy

The branding is pet products, but there is a page for cats, a page for dogs etc.

Unfortunately no. At least I haven't see a theme that supports multiple headers, but I could be wrong.

You might want to check what Kathy said in case you should ever need it. I haven't tried it yet.I found a thread in the Wordpress forum asking the same question. There is a plugin for what you want .

use more than one in a blog post?

I think less is more, based on all I've learned so far. Stuffing the content with keywords seems to work against you. I think if we compare it to natural conversation talking about a certain subject matter we would not find ourselves repeating the same keyword over and over again. So it is with the written word, keeping it authentic but authoritative. A few times and you have authenticity and authority. Maybe that's too simplified, but that's how my mind makes sense of it.

The thing is, any combination of words could be classified as a key word if someone has used them in a search at some point. If you use a combination of words like "I think I'll buy a Zebra" on a page titled "Zebras for sale" and someone does a search for "I think I'll buy a Zebra" my guess is that page is going to rank pretty well for that keyword. It may only be used in a search once in a blue moon but when it is the page it's on is probably going to show up on page one of Google. Someone tell me if I'm wrong.

I would focus on my main keyword. Then do variations of that keyword throughout the article. I do what Carla has already said for the main keyword, and then write naturally, subtly changing my keyword.

If you keyword was 'on page seo' then throughout your post use terms like;
on page optimisation
on page seo techniques
on page seo checklist etc.

This way you maximise your main keyword's potential. No need to check search volume for them. They will read as natural variations of your main keyword, and you will possibly rank for them too.

Does that make sense?

agree with the consensus...don't "mix 'n' match" good question, though!

Seems like the Yoast SEO tool I am using is geared towards one per....I ma not sure if that is the definitive answer though....

I asked a question about keywords too and got many different answers! The rule of thumb seems to be not to "stuff" with keywords, title, first paragraph, middle and last paragraph. It should flow with the content and make sense. I was also told that seach engines can pick up keywords within your text that you didn't put there as keywords if you get my meaning!

I do title, first para and one towards the end of about 500 words. I agree with putting it in the alt. text and I use it as my first tag, too.

I didn't ask the question correctly. If I do a search and there are 5 keywords all with good search vs. qsr ration, can I, should I use all 5 somewhere (depending of length of blog) or just 1 throughout?

I use the same keywords only those few times throughout. That's how I was taught in online writer's SEO. I know some folks mix and match. I would use the other words to build separate posts around, but that's me. :)

My thinking is the same as Carla's.
Harold

I think title, first paragraph and MAYBE once more for your main keyword. If others flow naturally into your writing, fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way trying to fit them it

Hi,

From Jay's WAbinars you need the keyword in the title and somewhere in the first paragraph. Also, do not forget to place it in the ALT Text or Alt Tag. That's it! You're good to go.

George

atlanticus is right, too many of the same keyword could hurt more than help.
Now you could find some different keywords on the same subject.

As far as I can remember, from the training, you should use a keyword in the title and once in the first paragraph.

I want to center my site title and change the font on the title and tagline, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do it.

Did you try going to Word Press under their help and looking for it?

Doing that right now!

Doing that involves editing your site's CSS file and appears to be theme-specific. I did find a Youtube video describing how but the directions didn't work for the particular theme that I have in use.

or if you don't mind having dashes on each side of your title , you could use those to center it, a long line of dashes

I'll just say good luck, Carla. Not sure how myself, but Muriel knows her stuff in the IT department!

I'd be happy to help you out any way I can when it comes to stuff in the IT Carla :) Thanks for the compliment

Thank you!

Hi there :) You can change the colors of the font within your style.css file. If you want to change the font of your site title and site tagline, you can search for the following:

#site-title (for your site title)
#site-description (for your tagline)

The style.css is quite a big file, so it might take a moment for you to find these. The second question you should ask yourself is, what font will you choose? You have to make sure that all computers can display your site title, tagline and other content in the font you desire.

Good luck!

Yikes, appreciate your help!

Maybe this helps: http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css_websafe_fonts.asp

The particular theme that I'm using, Expound, uses an "@import" for the CSS file. (The CSS code itself isn't in the style.css file.) I don't see a way to get editor access to the file that's being imported. Any ideas on handling that situation?

You can read more on that here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/editing-css-stylesheet-that-is-imported

If I understand correctly you can "force" the theme to use your preference when you add classes and id's for the tags you want to modify. Check out that link and let me know if things aren't clear.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, to override a tag, you need to know what specific tag is being used. :=)

I need to poke around a bit to see what's going on. I was able to download the file that's being imported with FTP but it has no CSS tags associated with the word "title". I'll look into this a little more to determine what styles are being applied to the title.

Thanks again for your help.

That's for sure, You can definitely get a lot out of the "source page" from your website.

I guess the word "title" is unclear by itself, so they name their classes and ids differently. For sure the exact names must be different with each theme.

Good luck and if you need more help, I'd be happy to help you out :)

Right!

The only thing I can suggest is go to Appearances/Editor and open Header.php file from list on right.

See if anything jumps out at you in the code.
Make SURE to copy the Header.php from the editor and save it to your computer BEFORE you change anything. That way if you mess up, just paste the original code back.

Thank you Ben.

Hi Carla,

I believe if you want to change the font of your header, you need to do it through some css/coding. I don't know how to code, so hopefully someone will provide you with some info one how to do it.

-Jimmy

Hi Jimmy, I think Murie might be on to something so I'm going to try it.

If you see a way to do it on your site let me know. I cant do it to my theme, and I have wondered if there is a way and I have not seen any way I can.

I will!

I will!

Wish I could Help, I just use the basic.

But I can't even get a color behind my words, and you have done that.

I use Microsoft Office then just copy and past. That way I can keep a back up copy of my pages on my computer for improving & back up files.

I put the heading on a word document; changed the font and size of text, copied it in, and it didn't change at all. Aargh!

Oh, you mea for the color?

Yes, Microsoft gives you the option to change the font color. Size, etc, it creates the HTML code. When you copy it and past it into website or word press blogs (they both use HTML code) your color will appear.

THank you so much!

If you need Microsoft Word it is now free, you just have to google it. Just be sure of the url you are downloading from. Some try to add JUNK that will bog you down, and cause you trouble. Try going to Microsoft.com first. Word, & Publisher, are basically the same as far as the typing.

I just clicked on Microsoft Office on my start menu and it said I have to buy it........I'm sure that's from when I bought the computer so I will go to your suggestion. Between you and Murie, WOW!

Are you actually editing it in the header? Appearance-editor- then on right side click header. To do this you have to change word document to HTML VIEW, Copy it all and Paste it. Save and View.

I've tried so much, I've decided it's too far beyond me. Copied the page you suggested and read every line of code, but didn't see the words to my tagline anywhere in there! I think for now I'd better leave it and write a blog, which I haven't done since Sept. 11! THANK YOU so much for all your help.

Your quite welcome, just wish you had a better outcome.

Me too but I appreciate how many have tried to help me.

Hmmm, just had a look at the options for my theme and I can't see anywhere to do this. I'm sure someone's going to come along with the solution, I'd like to be able to do this too!

I'm going to try what Murie said.

Glad you asked. I needed it too.

Looks like you have lots of good advice here. Sergs talked me through it with screenshots. It's not that hard. So once you get the right code, you should be able to do it pretty easy.

Hi Carla! -

I don't have instructions for the removal of the footer.

Do you mean - how do you remove the copyright line from a footer?

This is under my comment box and I want to get rid of it. You may use these HTML tags and attributes:

That is in your .css file?

This is on the bottom on the front of my website.

Those instructions tell your readers which HTML codes are allowed to be used in their comments. Have you done something to prevent your readers from using them? (If not, many experienced commenters will know that those codes can be used whether you have them listed or not.)

I'm burned out I've been working so hard at getting my site up and running. Thinking of hiring an Elance expert for SEO and keyword research. Thoughts?

Sounds like you need a little down time then come back and start where you left off. Good advice mentioned below. I know there are evening where I just have to sit and relax.

So true!

I would not do that because you will get better with the training here as you do it yourself. When you see your rankings moving up in google you can experiment then to see what works and what does not.

With good content you can find yourself ranking for keywords you never even thought of, but you need time for your site to get established.

I feel better today as I got some rest.

I do understand that overwhelming feeling, so much to learn and do. but it is important to take a rest, many members here have blogged about it so be kind to yourself. I couldn't afford to hire anyone myself but don't think I would given the training here. Everytime I research keywords I learn something new, like my blog yesterday (https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/kathy331/blog/z-or-s-keyword-research).
Take a break, then see how you feel :)

Thanks Kathy!

Hi Carla! -

Just stick with the training here!

WA is all you need! :)

Thanks so much.

You'll get all the training here that you need regarding SEO and keyword research. Be patient and save your money. There is no need to rush, good things usually take time and you need to take a break every now and then. Remember, this is a marathon not a sprint. ~Marion

I'm starting to get it!

Please don't waste your money. We have thousands of people in this network. There was just last night there was an excellent webinar all about rankings in Google and what to look for. I understand your "burn out" feeling. Me too... Remember, WA is NOT a get rich quick type of deal. The real value is in the education you're getting, and in the way it is done step by step. Small steps first, then bigger ones. I'm itching to get my pages on the first and second page of Google but I know that won't happen. Are there exceptions to the rule? Of course there are, but even so. It's the weekend. Take a day off from the machine, relax. I applaud everyone that throws themselves whole heart into this program, but you can't make money online if your dead. So don't kill yourself trying to speed up the learning curve and the profits. Like Kyle keeps saying, there are 2 billion people every day online. Plenty of room for everyone. And plenty of time. Internet isn't going to disappear any time soon. Peace!

You are so right. I AM tired, so we'll see how things go in the next few days. I definitely know this isn't going to be a quick amount of money. I want to be making money by June......and feel I will be there.

It's your business and if that's what you want to do go for it. I have seriously thought about using that venue as a revenue source using accountin and admin skills. Why not make your life easier? Just my opinion.

Thank you Donna.....you're another friend whose opinion I really have respect for. "You have to do what you have to do" sometimes. I'm going to study a little more and see if I feel I can get farther along.

Don't bother with Elance, Donna. You will only be wasting your time unless you are willing to pay for their certifications. I got so many emails about available jobs matching my skills and when I applied they just tried to sell me their certifications. In the end I opted out without making a thin dime after wasting a lot of my valuable time applying for jobs where they wanted the best for the lowest price. Be true to yourself. ~Marion

Thank you so much for that advice. I knew something was keeping me from applying.

I'm not trying to work for them, I'm thinking about using them for keyword research.

I realize that and I still say if that's what you want to do, go for it. I see nothing wrong with it. It's called delegation or outsourcing.

No, I haven't, Carla, but I have friends who have hired Elance writers and been happy with them. Before you pay Elance's rates (I used to write for them), why you check out Fiverr.com. You'd be surprised what you can get for $5. You can try Elance. Find someone that has a good rating and try one contract. If you're not happy, you don't have to use them again. Good Luck!

Thanks Carla I respect your opinion a lot. I think we all know our limitations and keyword research is so important and seems to be something I'm not very good at.

Really, I had to go look that up because you did the short version. I was like what....Lol...I worked on and off for 18 hours or more one day, but determination and my own efforts have made me feel happy I did all the work and with the help from a wonderful community! Your choice, but I am so excited about what I have made on my own, its a good feeling. Kim :)

You can do that if you so desire but make sure you create a new user for them, that way you can delete them later from logging on to your site.

Thank you! I would never have thought of that.

Has anyone hired an elance expert for keyword research?
