And now...for a bit of background. Until I left home at age fourteen, I lived in a very small community of mostly itinerant lead and zinc miners in Cardin, Oklahoma. I graduated from Picher-Cardin High School and enlisted in the military on my 17th birthday during World War II. After spending over three years in the Air Force, I used my G.I. Bill to go to Oklahoma University for pre-med study and finished Medical School there seven years later.

I enjoyed a successful solo Medical Family Practice for 36 years. After closing my private practice, I served as Medical Director for an Oklahoma City Hospital for 4 years retiring at the age of 68. I feel very fortunate to have been able to do something for a living that I dearly loved and have had, what I have always considered to be, the world's greatest patients.

Those were some of the early days when a "GP" (General Practitioner) treated most illnesses, performed surgeries, delivered babies, did pediatrics, made house calls at night and on weekends, and even made nursing home calls. At that time we did not have a lot of specialists, intensive care units did not yet exist, there were no x-ray machines in offices, and emergency rooms were only staffed with nurses.

So anytime a patient went to the E.R. for an emergency, the doctor also went to the E.R., often 3-5 times per night. We treated many people with heart attacks at home with bed rest, oxygen and medication to relieve pain because monitors and more sophisticated equipment had not yet been invented. From this you can get the picture of how very closely involved we were with our patients' lives and that made it all so rewarding.

It is sometimes fun to look back at the difference in medical costs compared to our lives now. Office calls were $3.00. If I saw you in the office at night, it was $5.00 and hospital and nursing home calls were $7.50. If someone could not afford those high prices, they might mow my yard, paint my house or bring me a fresh catfish or something from their garden.

Needless to say medicine has made a lot of progress since then and it has been a real treat to be a part of it and make my own personal contributions, large or small. Had I had any idea I would be so healthy and live so long I would not have retired so soon. I've done a lot of research into maintaining excellent health and truly believe that this is my contribution now.

My reason for starting this website is to share the knowledge that I have accumulated during my years in health care. It is my opinion that if we are going to be healthy as a population, we must become more knowledgeable and I realize that "if it is to be, it is up to me." My intent is to be able to help unravel some of the mystery of staying healthy. Like all areas there are some basic fundamentals that are necessary and there is often also a ton of misinformation from poorly informed, misinformed and/or intentional scammers who all want our hard earned dollars.

I am excited about communicating with a large base of people in assisting you to separate fact from hype. I spend most of my time now researching medical issues, primarily preventive medicine, and trying to sort the hype from the really helpful material and products. I want to pass what I glean from my research on to you and enable you to make the most educated choices possible about your health, the products to support your health, and the health of those around you who you know and love.

Best wishes to all of you. I know that, together, we can make 2014 the best year EVER!

Hmasters's Goals 3
Money Goals
I would be happy earning $5K per mo. after I have had time to learn and understand the information and process involved and how to make it productive.
I would be ecstatic earning $15K per mo. after I feel I know the process well enough that I could teach it to others. I am fortunate enough to have my basic income needs met but have a lot of projects I am anxious to put in place that can help some that have been less fortunate or are just getting started on their financial journey.
This is an area of all new learning for me so I am a total novice and will spend whatever time is required. I am looking forward to utilizing a lot of help and later being able to reciprocate.

Superb goals Harold! You have a large network and community here at WA that you can leverage for help and support along the way, myself included.

It all starts with a goal...then is followed by action...then is followed by results. This is going to be how it pans out for you and I can't wait to hear about all of your successes in the days, weeks, and months ahead! :)
