How do you avoid wordpress automatically placing a break in the caption of an image when you do edits? When I place the caption in there it shows in preview the way I want it b

glad you go it resolved all the best Max

okay, I have found the problem. It began because I put the caption in after the image was already on the page. It did not hold the caption in the media library. If you use a caption it needs to be entered before the image is ever inserted or it will not hold position.

I have had that happen. I just delete the image and caption and then re-install the image. John

Thanks. I have been going back into the caption area and deleting the

which accumulates before my wording but I don't understand what is making it do that. The post I am working on has a lot of images. It is a bit frustrating when you have to keep fixing the same thing over and over.

my pc was left on overnight but was off when I went to it. After logging in an update took over and the screen has been blank for over an hour. I am just hoping this is normal.

Haven;t yet, but someone was saying it caused him some major issues. Maybe cause I was out of town with work, it did it and I didn't notice any changes yet.

I have not had any updates recently .. did upgrade to windows 10 a month ago. no problems so far

Hi Glenda, I guess by now your computer is back to normal, you are right about it being a Windows update. Windows 10 will automatically do backups, and some times it has to reboot to finish the installs, and this last one was one of there largest.
That's why it tool so long to do, and in the process it put a few things back to default settings like your browser being set back to edge. One other thing I noticed is it set my computers back to requiring a password when brought out of sleep mode, since I'm the only one around my computer, I don't bother with the password.
I hope this has helped you in understanding what happened.
Kim

Thanks. My computer also now need s a password after sleep mode. Everything is fine now. I just was not expecting it and it had me concerned. I do appreciate the explanation.

are you taking about wordpress 4.4 all it is updating your themes, And I had this problem, did you trash or delete anything, Go back and edit your website.

No it was my computer but thanks for commenting

Doesn't sound normal at all! Is it working now? Cheers!

It was until the internet went out. I am on my phone right now

It is now fine... Thank you

It definitely was a windows update and it reset my browser default to edge. No thank you. changed that back.

Okay I did give up and reboot. It finally did come up but that was scary. I thought it may have a virus but apparently it was a huge update. Back to normal now. Thanks guys.

An hour seems excessive. I think there is a problem.
Xin

I assume you are on Win10, that does not sound normal at all. One of many reasons I'm hanging with Win7. A possibility may be the update has caused an issue with the video driver, try rebooting and see if that helps good luck!

When there were still words on the screen it said not to turn oc off... That it would be ready in a little bit

Sounds like you may have gotten an OS upgrade were you a windows 10 user,

Yep. That is what it was. I have never had something like that take so long except for maybe when I upgraded to Windows 10 several months ago. At that time I expected it but not this time.

Even though I normally set my images to none I have discovered that some images have been indexed by a file number in Google. If someone clicks on these it will take them to an

Interesting discussion. Thanks Glenda.

new to me but will bear this in mind

Wonderful idea.I wil proceed accordingly!

Rick

Well here's my novice-techie answer: SEO is a spider and spiders don't recognize pictures (images) at all, but they DO see the Alt Text under the image/picture, so type it with a keyword for your article and SEO will love you.

If these were all attached to articles it would not be a problem as it would be easy to click on the picture in the article inside the visual mode, bring up the little edit tool and change the link to none. However, most of the images in question are not linked (yet) to an article. Therefore, that part of edit does not show up

ok.... on my PC, when I go to the 'library' and select an image/picture it immediately shoots over to my right margin; picture shows up and the "Caption" and "Alt tag" right under it. If it is filled in I back it out and type my own caption&alt; tag to fit the blog. At times I use the same picture for say "earning online" and change the alt-text for "successful affiliate marketing". There's no law against these changes.

That still will not solve the problem of someone clicking on an indexed image going to the image without a post. That causes bounces. Bounces reduce your SEO rankings.

I am just thinking aloud, since you have no article to it, will it help if you link it to a related WA blog post (but with yr wa affiliate link in it). I am still learning, lol. ;)

I discovered that both the SEO and the site map had checks on them to include images in indexing. I removed those checks, deleted a personal file that had been accidentally uploaded in pdf form to the media library. It seems that when you have them checked then the spiders crawl around even in the media library where you have pictures you were considering but have not yet used. I also uploaded the SEO redirection plugin which has advanced settings to take care of any 404 error pages that may occur. Hopefully, the problem is solved once the site is crawled again.

Your question is well understood but I can't tell.

Thank you anyway.
