Hello everyone. Well it's been four months now since I joined Wealthy Affiliate.
Let's see how far I've come.

I started out as a "Starter" and built two website immediately. One for promoting WA and one for my passion which is of course music.

It took a bit but I finally did upgrade to Premium, and although there's been a month or two now where the finances got real tight, I'm not sorry for the investment at all.

The music site was supposed to be a simple basic affiliates site for finding good equipment for musicians. It has of course morphed into something much bigger than I thought I'd be able to do. Now I'm showing off music of my own, and actively linking to other sites to actually sell (if possible) songs for commercial use. Commercial jingles, possible TV show themes etc. A BIG TASK. And a giant step for me. It has also rekindled a long dormant want to perform and record again. Just from this work with WA I've found a wonderful company known as Acoustica that makes probably the most sensible Digital Recording Studio software I've seen in years. While there are other software programs out there that are really good. If you're just starting out or starting over this company and it's support system is the equivalent musically to what WA is for Affiliate Marketing and online business. The support is great and I haven't purchased the software yet. Cool.

My other site for WA is now promoting WA, Jaaxy, and WordPress

Now for you newbies here's the thing you have to remember. Each of us moves at their own pace. Some of us I've seen have barely started but their sites took off and they are making money right away. Others of us are still having trouble with Google Rankings and indexing (me for example.) But guess what...that's how the world of business actually is. Now I know I've made mistakes on my sites and slowly I'm fixing them. But only a few months ago, I couldn't do anything I'm doing now. So those of you out there who are feeling discouraged. DON'T BE.. I know it's only a matter of time for me. Mostly what is slowing me down is the fact that I'm still obligated to keep working at the day job I have which mentally exhausts me. I literally had to cut my hours back so I'd have three days off. First day off to sleep. Second day to catch up on my online business affairs, and third day to spend quality time with my wonderful woman Linda. So fact is I don't really get days off. Or nights as I'm usually up till 2 a.m. working on making my site more Google Friendly, and improving both sites overall. I get frustrated but I don't get discouraged. Why? Because of the following. I know from experience that things we love to do are often hard to hurry up when it comes to developing and succeeding at. Especially if one wants to show "Quality." Some things just take time. So welcome aboard WA if you're new, and if you've been here a while keep on keeping on. This is still the best place on the internet to be. Anyway...

...A little about me. I've been a professional musician/entertainer most of my life. I play guitar, some keyboard, percussion, harmonica, vocals, and for ten years owned my own home recording studio. I've been slightly published, that is I appear on a few CD's by various artists, but mostly was in the live performance side of things as a side man/hired gun session player for various bands, and entertainers. I was successful but not famous. There is a difference. The difference is that I worked and earned my living at the art I've always loved.
There were of course some set backs so I'm not as active now as I was. Currently I'm working out of a bad economic situation due to the collapse of the area where I live regarding employment and other matters. So I'm currently working at a Call Center doing customer service and am just now starting out as an independent Insurance Agent. Since I'm not supposed to be promoting I must refrain at this time as far as which company I represent however, I'll give you a small hint. "Quack."

I also firmly believe the words of Mark Ford (a documented self made millionaire) who said the key to becoming wealthy is to have a diversified multiple streams of income. Towards that end is why I am here. I've seen lots of changes in our country and economy, and simply do not believe anymore that I can maintain a so called normal job and retire comfortably. If that's to change I need to make these changes. So since I'm new to the Affliliates system of internet business, I will take this slowly and ask a lot of questions. Thanks for the warm welcomes and we'll see you all on the inside.

Just some additional stuff here. I've built two website, got a few folks at work interested enough to take a look at my sites, and seem to have a large network internally growing. Also made some new friends. And all this from the Starter Kit, watching the videos, reviewing the lessons and playing with my sites and site editors. My sites were up and running before I upgraded to Premium. This is real proof that Kyle & Carson have truly done a great thing with creating WA. The Social Network side of this in my opinion is way more classy than the uh...other three biggies. I like hanging out around here. My thanks to all of you who have left helpful information in my notifications, sent me links to useful learning sites both in and out of WA, and the comments on my page. It's all forward momentum which works in line with the title of my WA website of "Moving My Life Forward. I thank you all.

Peace!

Life is too short to spend making other people rich, and you don't get to take the money with you. Ergo, I wish to live LIFE as best as I can. And if I can profit great, that will help the people I leave behind. But I know better than to believe for one minute that spending the next ten years busting my butt at my day job is going to lead anywhere. And as I've read many times from very successful folks like Warren Buffet, diversified multiple income streams is the real way to financial independence. So Playing Music, Affiliate Marketing, copyrighted music and photography (Linda's side of this venture) is the right way to go. And yes it's a lot of work...but I feel good at night when done even if I don't see a dime.

Hello Marty!

Just dropping in for a minute to thank you for the time you invest in your blogs and the suggestions you offer as a reminder. I read early on how important it is to go and see what others are creating and have made that a habit when I look to follow someone.

Not always possible in the moment of clicking 'follow me' but in the stream of time I usually get back to someone.

I will be looking for your other creativity as it bubbles to the surface of your efforts and contributions.

The truth be told no one was more surprised through my career than me. Like a lot of teenagers in the 70's I wanted to have a great band not a garage band. But egos and metal heads being what they were there was no real place for me. So I branched out in different genres and found that I could do better as a sideman musician and had a lot more fun because of the differences. Blues in a blues band on a Sat night, and playing Jim Croce and Beatles solo in restaurants during the week. Street musicians stuff on weekends (Washington DC was great for that in the 70's like Greenwich Village of New York) It was a treasure trove of great talent that I didn't even realize till years later. Guitarist genius Danny Gaton lived there and played all the time. I was blowing harp with that guy off and on for about four years and had no clue how really LARGE he was in the industry. Years went by and I never ever thought about that thing people called "A Career" as I already had one. When I hit Miami in the 80's I found a great "Bar/Saloon" called Tobacco Road that catered to the Blues Scene. It was the total antithesis of the Latin Rock Scene in Miami and had folks like Albert King, Sun Ra, Kenny Neal and Little Feat all coming through there on weekends. Spent a week playing harmonica for Lee Oscar and "War" (Lee was delighted that I could play his band's harmonica licks note for note as he got to focus on playing saxophone all week just because I was sitting in.) And used that venue as a means to market out for other local gigs on my days off from the bar. (I was a barback there) So it was wonderful. I was sort of under the radar as far as being a so called famous musician, but was well known and respected by the local players scene so always had referral work and the infamous last minute "Marty I'm over booked can you cover for me" work coming in steady.
With the 90's of course came sequencers and drum machines and that thing pretty much died for me. However, now with the great new DAW's, loopers and so on I am getting back into the scene. Mostly concentrating on Hotel gigs, and private parties. May sound boring but the pay is better and a lot less b.s. to put up with. Besides the folks that do these venues are the ones that actually have real money to pay.
So I'm gearing up to build a website similar in design to what you are doing and would appreciate your insight and advise on going about setting up my own website for distribution of original music. Commercial jingles is fine for me to as I can spend all day and night mixing instrumentals just from the library of loops that comes with the software, and use the looper for original stuff and edit on the DAW after.
Someone mentioned the plug in woocommerce. Are you familiar with that software as far as protecting and selling my original music?
What would be your suggestions as far as what to offer for free as incentive and what to strictly sell? What about non profits and not for profit?
Looking forward to hearing from you and best of luck to your future success.
Peace!

Looks like you've definitely been in the thick of it all.. & amongst some of the legendary players too! Great to have had the opportunity to experience such a live scene.. it's certainly not the general experience these days...

If you wanted to get your music sold through the likes of iTunes etc you will need to go thru a third-party distributor.. there are many out there these days.. i use TuneCore.. (TuneCore.com).. CD Baby is also a popular one for independat artists..

In terms of selling music via your own website.. i use a PayPal system which i can link to my AWeber mailing lists.. the advantages of this system for me is that each time i sell music on my site i also receive the buyers email address which becomes part of the transaction. This may be possible with woocommerce i don't know because i've never used it..

Ultimately you should aim for a setup that enables you to build mailing lists of people that have purchased your music (& associated products) so that you can continue to connect with them and establish longer term relationships which may also result in further sales for more of your music and associated products.. something you can't do when someone buys your products from iTunes etc..

These are exciting times for stay-at-home musicians.. ha ha :~)

Hey Martin! Thanks for leaving some feedback on my question about sharing WA through social media. What can I do to help you succeed?
Reply
MartinWeeks Premium
Just make us all proud. Build a great website, and succeed at what you do. Specifically (and this really is for everyone, leave comments on my webpages. And of course visa versa. Let me know when their something new to look at. The whole point is to engage, and that helps Google find us so while it's really nice that people respond here on the WA Dashboard, the replies, comments and so on really should be at least copied to the individual's websites. (Pass this on to your followers too) Remember this Dashboard is WA exclusively. All this interaction is what makes this site so well ranked. The whole idea of this is as a teaching tool Take what you learn here and apply it out there. Encourage everyone that interacts with you here to interact with you out there on YOUR site. See what I'm saying? That is generating traffic. While it's nice and safe in here, our profits and successes are going to come from out there. Let me know when you get stuck and I'll see if I can help or point you to the right person or tutorial. Hope you are having a nice and safe Thanksgiving Day.
Peace!

Thank you very much sir. I hope you and your family and friends have a Safe & Happy Thanksgiving this year. I suspect a lot of us in WA are going to have a good Thanksgiving. We are starting or running our own businesses. We've put the word out on a worldwide basis. There are so many folks out there who would if they could but circumstances beyond their control make it impossible for them. Just a bit over a year ago, something like this would have had to be passed up. I was homeless. So again, A Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Thank you Mariamcm. I'm still what I think of as a newbie here at WA. Their are really great teachers in this network. Best way to find them is to watch the sidebar of your dashboard for announcements of new blog posts, bookmark the ones that seem relevant so you can go back to and review when you have relax time. It's kind of hard to cram everything in when a person is working their regular job, taking care of household stuff and so on. Make good use of the little stars next to the different blog posts so you build a library of information over time.
Thanks again and welcome aboard.

doing well, please look at my review on the moving forward with your life website. Got some questions about specifics on html but can't type them in this format due to the blocks on h t m l coding. Is there an alternative way to email you without this interference? Don't worry about me upgrading it will come but not till the money crunch is over. I have a solid HR Manager company lead now with my Aflac business that could lead to what would translate for me to about $9000.00 in commission in the next two months, so it will happen. tried to last night but couldn't get around the spam blocker regarding typing in the html code. When in text mode for html there is a code after each previous code. I believe it is fsop. I am having a bit of difficulty regarding where I place "graphic" and banners in the text body. Do I highlight and replace the above with the jpeg or the banner when editing my posts?
Reply
Kyle Premium
You don't add images within the "text" editor, you do this within the visual editor. I show you how to add images within this tutorial:

My apologies. The video I was watching was about how to take out the actual picture from a banner ad to paste into another portion of the text than at the bottom of the paragraph re insert the entire banner in it's whole to create the affiliate link for credit. Also, amazon is now sending me "special offers for affiliates only" banner links. Do I need to insert my code in the banner and if so where exactly in the code do I place it? Thanks again Kyle. Good video. I will be making use of Wikipedia Commons very shortly. They got some great sound bites as well. (I do play a mean harmonica but don't have my studio anymore so can't do my own playing.)
Reply
Kyle Premium
Ah yes, you add banner code to the Text tab within the editor. Just do know that you will not see the actual banner show up in the editor, you will have to publish your page first and then view your website online.
Reply
MartinWeeks Premium
Oh...so that is why when I added in using txt then changed to visual I didn't see anything at all? Okay, getting late so will try tomorrow...LAST DAY OF THE WEEK FOR THE J-O-B!!! Then more time to concentrate on this. (and get some needed sleep.) Have a great evening.

Here are the bonuses that you are going to be getting:

(3) I am going to be giving you my "Diamond Traffic Bonus". This is going to show you how I walk into absolutely any niche and get unlimited traffic.

But only if you join in the next 4 days (this is what I call my "action takers" bonus).

Anyways, just wanted to mention this. Hope your training is going well Martin and Reply to this if you do have any “pending” questions. :)

It would be great to do that Kyle...and again I will say this...bonuses or no bonuses the whole concept of what you and Carson are doing is great. But when I have only about $30.00 left in my bank to pay for food for two people, cigs(ugh I know) gas for the motor scooter, and house things like toilet paper and so on, I just can't do it right now. Monday is my Aflac day where I go out and talk to business owners about what they do. You never know...if one business allows me to talk to their employees and two or even three of them purchase just one single Aflac plan, that's a complete turn around of my money for me. ($90.00 upfront per person and five bucks per person every month thereafter.) But outside of that it most likely won't happen yet. Don't worry. When the funds are better I don't have an issue paying the full amount upfront. It's still the best deal going. And you can print that out if you wish. Like I say in my posts, "Do the math" when you compare all the peripherals you need from other so called website hosing services to what you guys are offering, the value is clear. I don't have any issues about premium...I just don't have the bucks right now...$15.00 or $47.00 Thank you though for reminding me.

Hi Mr Weeks, bingopauls here. Im a newbie and I read your profile and was disappointed to see you joined on the 20th and have not gone prem yet. After what you said in a comment about all the rest were "buy my e-book" I knew you knew that WA is for real and gives you a 100 times more than you sign up for. Best wishes whatever you decide

Here we are, 10 days into your experience at WA. :)

I hope things are going well Martin! I want to remind you of one thing, your hard work and dedication IS going to pay off. Keep working through the training, communicating within the community, and of course, ask for help when you need it.

Just heading out for a bit here, but do leave me a message if you need a hand with anything. You should have Premium communication back for an additional 7 days now, so hit me up when you get a chance Martin!

HI Kyle, sent you an email last night as I've run into a couple of glitches, and am not sure if it's something wrong with my code or not. My girlfriend attempted to log in and register last night, and I know for a fact that until two weeks ago neither of us knew about WA, but the register page is saying she's already registered. Now I know that there are a couple other folks (right in Google+) with the same name and spelling, but obviously not the same email address. Is there a way to check? If there's a problem with my code I need to know this before I continue to post on Facebook, and LinkedIn Groups and so on. Really need the tech support check on this one buddy. Home most of the day so you can call, email or whatever. a.s.a.p please? Thank you.

Oh yeah another thing...I need to start bookmarking some of the training videos (especially on widgets) for follow up down the road. Since we are literally just about totally broke till next pay day if I need to review I need to have the links to the training videos. If not from WA from others in the network (on YouTube perhaps?) so I can figure out what I'm doing wrong. Also want to make sure that my codes for WA and other Affiliate retailers are in the banners correctly. Thanks, sorry for dropping so much on you, but I only have 6 days to do this so I'm pushing the envelop here a bit.

That is because she is trying to register through your same IP (location) which we don't allow because we do this to prevent multiple accounts and system gaming.

If you email me the details as to which she wants to use to sign-up, I will set her up.

You can bookmark stuff here at WA by clicking the "Star" icon within any blog/question/training. Here are more details on how this system works:

Thank you very much Kyle. I have emailed the information you asked for. Any other questions please just email me as I might miss it in this forum while I'm updating my websites. Also I've reworked my WA website a bit applying some of the instructions I've been bookmarking for the last hour and a half. Please review and let me know how and where to fix. Specifically in the "About This Page" section. I've also made a sub page about Me so it doesn't over all appear like an "ALL ABOUT ME" type of page. Looking forward to the critiques.

More common ground: I, too, have worked in call centres. I did it as a teenager, and the last time was after my husband died and I needed to get back into the work force. (I had been home with a baby and then home with a sick husband.) Also, hubby was a studio musician, so I get what you are saying! He was also a studio engineer. He made a living and didn't want to travel in a band. And then he was an audio engineer at Electronic Arts. He said it was "like high school, with money!" He is on a lot of albums. He did lazer shows. He did work he loved.

Cool!! What is his name, as I'd like to Google and find out more. 1st because I find that fasinating (small world huh?) and 2nd help me target better my traffic.
On another matter please stay in touch via email or comments on the website as I have turned this all around in my head for two days and simple will not be able to upgrade to premium right now $19.00 or not. So I will be losing the ability to have these nice little info chats we're doing right now. I'm also as you know selling Aflac and that's an entirely different marketing scheme. It is B2B and for their purposes their way is the right way. They do not do Affiliation as their are insurance laws in each state to keep things honest. (Do you blame them?) So between my job, the insurance biz and this I'm pretty much running on caffeine these days.

Actually I did I thought. in the different chapters. Still having some problems with setting the comments to go where I need them to go,and I've done a fairly good job with Jaaxy on keywords, but I sure am not showing up anywhere near the top 1000 so far on Google. If you can check into my website and leave a comment if you can so I know things are working correctly. Thanks. Also sent you some email regarding premium. Can I downgrade if I have to after upgrading? Funds are really REALLY tight now

What is your website URL Martin, I will need to know this in order to leave a comment.

You cannot downgrade, but you will be able to resubscribe to your Premium account at any time and reconnect your membership (when you can make it back). ;)

We also host your website for 30 days beyond the cut off date, which gives you time to still work on it or move it to another host in the meantime.

Hope this clarifies for you Martin!

If I understand what you're saying once I upgrade, if for whatever reason I cannot continue to make the $47.00 per month payments I lose the whole site and have to start from scratch.?

You don't lose the site, you will either have to move it to another host or resubscribe within 30 days. The starter plan is great for getting up and running and then when you are ready to take things to the next level, you should consider the Premium membership.

Your website is coming along niche. One thing I do suggest is smaller paragraphs.

It can be very difficult to read large blocks of content, in particular with the fact that we are living in a 140 character world.

White space within your content (smaller paragraphs) will lead to much better readability and more people will read your content as a result.

Hi Kyle, thanks for asking. I do have a question. I titled my website allaboutgear (http:// etc.) however, when I typed into google the words all about gear, google came up with everything from fishing gear to breast pumps. I realized I needed to be a bit more specific I'd like to change my url to allaboutmusicgear. Can I do that with the existing page or do I have to start all over again from scratch? Just saying all about gear is too broad, and I should have thought of that earlier but hey I'm a musician and we don't always think like normal earth people. What is the process for doing this? According to the last lesson, changing the name of the url would break it.
Reply
Kyle Premium
You cannot change your URL after you have created it, you would need to create a new website. You will be able to copy your content over from your old site before you delete that though, so your work is not lost, but I do agree with you here as you should be a bit more specific with your domain name.

MartinWeeks Premium
After watching the video and reading the lesson on SEO, would the url: allaboutmusicgear work better as far as ratings are concerned? Or do I need to be even more specific? The idea is to make it as easy as possible for working bands, musicians to go right to the source to order the gear they need for their work. (performing music is in fact a very hard "Job" and requires serious organization to succeed.)

guitar student? How far along are you? Are you actually "Playing" guitar and wanting to move forward with the development of the skill, or are you still struggling with the painful callouses and all that?
Reply
FixMyHome Premium
I know the basic chords...some bar chords..got past the callouses but then again I may have to re do them since I have been away about 3 months..I can play a few songs but I have not developed the ear to play any song I want..I have both acoustic and a electric guitar..

There are numerous ways to (and this is my phrasing not college stuff) ways to fool our brains into ear development. First and foremost is the simple but absolute truth about chord structures. Remember this always (this is for popular music like rock & roll, blues, c&w, and the like) here goes... "There are only eight notes in the universe." Because there are only 8 notes in the universe there are only a limited specific patterns of chords. Chords are rooted in the 8 notes c,d,e,f,g etc. Second thing an abolute. Regarding chord structure. 1,4, 5 and 1,4,1,5,1. Those two chord patterns literally are the base of nearly ever single popular rock and roll song you have ever heard since the 1950's. My suggestion is the following. Just strum the chord pattern for the song Mr. Postman, then go directly to the Beatles Octopus's Garden, then the Jackson Brown version of Stay (just a little bit longer.) Actually that pattern is 1,6,4,5,1 but the lesson is still the same. Here's another selection. Good loving, followed by Twist and Shout. What you see is the same chord [pattern]. Not necessarily the same chords but the same 1,4,5, or 1,6,4,5,1 pattern. Want more? Just run through the standard 1960's country songs from George Jones, and all those guys. The patterns are always going to follow the same. 1 is the root chord (say C) 4 is going to be F (count four notes C,D,E,F. C is One F is four, and the next number 5 is G. Fact is if you know a couple of songs, you actually know the chord pattern for literally hundreds of other songs. They may have different keys, but that is transposition for the benefit of the vocalist. They may not be able to sing that high or sing that low, so we transpose the chords not the patterns. Try siting down with a classic rock radio station or use Pandora and say pull up The Beatles or Chuck Berry. Rather than try to figure it all out, just thumb the base patterns for the chords. You will see 1,4,1,5,1 or 1,4,5 over and over again. You play bar chords right? Look at the root notes of those bar chords. I used to do this all the time when performing. I'd segue from Beatles Twist and shout to Good Loving, to a whole slew of other songs with similar patterns. People would swear I was a genius. No I'm not. But when I realized that all these great songs I liked were the same or similiar patterns, I was able to quickly figure out and then fix the fine points dozens of other songs.
So here's the way to do this.
1.) thumb the base line of the chords for say three songs from the radio that sound similiar.
2.)Then form the chords around those base patterns.
3.)Then pull out the chord book you have in the basement somewhere all forgotten about, and experiment with the different formations of chords. Voila, sooner or later you will bump into some really cool sounding fingering of a chord and say "wait...I've heard this before...! What was that song???" And you're on your way. The wife will have to come into the room and pull you by your ear to bed. Trust me this really works and no teacher will ever tell you this because they'd be out of a job instantly. Cheers and happy playing. Peace!

Welcome to WA Martin. I am Kyle, co-founder and also an active part of the community here at Wealthy Affiliate. If you ever need anything or you get "stuck"?, let me know as I will be more than happy to help you out.

I do suggest that you start out with the Online Entrepreneur Certification - Getting Started (Level 1) course. Work your way through this training and take action on the lesson tasks. This is a foundational course that will get you building valuable online assets in just your first few days.

Thank you for the rapid reply. Like many others I've been through the mill with one type of disreputable online "source" after another. I will tell you upfront I will take this slow at first. Not because I'm skeptical but because at the moment my finances are in a difficult state. The area where I live has had a much more severe impact from our country's recent economic collapse, so even simple mundane employment is not accessible. (Space Coast of Florida aka a company town that has been left to die by outsourcing and lack of County Community foresight.) Also I am a licensed insurance sales man currently offering Aflac (which I'm committed to but that's another discussion for another time.) What I want to achieve though is multiple income streams over time. This looks like the best way to do that, and your site comes with good solid recommendations from ScamXposer. So I'm keeping an open mind. I do have a question. in your video you state that the ask a question discussion ends after seven days. Does that mean I'm shut out from future questions if I have them or just shut out for the individual lessons I'm in at the given time? Thanks and if you will excuse me I need to press on with the get started here lesson 1 as it's late and I still have to show up for work tomorrow at the mundane job I wish to get away from soon. Thanks see you inside.

Sounds like it has been quite a journey to find your way here to WA Martin, but I am glad you did.

There definitely are a lot of scams out there and by no means are you alone or should you feel bad that you have fallen victim to these vultures. Much brighter days are ahead now that you have found WA and I really do look forward to working with you.

Re: your question. You have access to Premium communication here for the first 7 days, after that you will not have communication privileges as they are "premium" only at that point, but you will still have access to your training and you will be able to build out your website.

If you ever need anything at all going forward, I am personally here to help you out so feel free to drop me a reply to this post or you can find me in chat (I am frequent there).

You definitely are in the right place Judy and it is only natural to be skeptical in this industry...there are so many scams out there and we have been fighting the uphill battle against them for the last 9 years.

I know you are going to love the community here and if you need a hand with anything going forward, let me know.
