4K Sessions Away From Being Able to Apply to Mediavine

Woot! It's been a long year. And, I should definitely be past 25,000 monthly sessions by now, but I actually had to step back for a couple months on my blog to take care of personal stuff. But, I just ran my Google Analytics and I'm at 21,000 monthly sessions.

For all of you who make ad income, you know who Mediavine is and you need 25,000 monthly sessions to apply! That's where you start making the bigger ad income. I'm doing okay with Google Adsense, but no where near what I'd like to be making a month.

My affiliate money is doing good too. But again, no where near where I'd like to be at. My goal right now is to get to where I'm making a consistent $1,000 a month from my blog. I've reached the $400's. But, it's not consistent. Again, I took a couple months off.

So, I'm on a mission now to get to 25k sessions or more a month so I can apply to Mediavine and then really work hard on my affiliate income. :-)

Patience and persistance is key!

My bounce rating is sucking a little. (or is it? What's the average bounce rate?) I do use interlinks in all my posts. My posts are at least 1,500 to 2,000 or more long. Any suggestions?

Congrats, Wendy! I've been waiting for many months to reach 25K sessions to apply to MV, still almost half way to go 😪

You'll get there! Keep going. :-)

Does anybody know what Kyle means in the comment below with those 'target affiliate promotions'?

He simply means that with your own website you are in total control and nobody else.
The products you are promoting as an affiliate will earn you more when you are in control rather than a company who is supposed to be looking after your site.

Always try to go with high end products when promoting so that you will make more money.

What would you rather do

Make $50 commission on 10 $5 dollar sales or $50 commission for one sale?

I have a feeling that he was talking about ads because the blog here was about ads and not about product reviews. So I remain confused.

I know how product reviews work, have them more than 1400 in three sites.

A good example would be that Google adsense told me I couldn't write about a certain subject nor promote a certain product because it was considered "adult" (even though it really wasn't). So, for me to display adsense I had to either take the entire post down and affiliate product or don't display google ads on that particular post.

I have to disagree Jovo.

He distinctly says -

target affiliate promotions

and not Ads the key word being Target.

The high end promotions will make you more money as opposed to smaller price products.

As I replied to someone else

Would you rather have commissions on 10 $5 products or just the one $50 product.

You're doing the same amount of work so why not make your money with one product instead of trying for 10 smaller priced ones?

Not sure what you disagree with because I did not claim anything, I said I did not understand him.

In any case, if Kyle was talking about product reviews then this was not what the blog was about. The author of the blog did not speak about this. But this does not mean that she has no reviews, what else is driving her traffic? Of course she has affiliate product reviews. So this is why I do not understand what Kyle was talking about.

But you can have product reviews together with ads, I have them in all reviews. There is nothing wrong in this and I did not understand why he was talking about pennies. Working with Amazon stuff is also about pennies yet those are targetted things which you mentioned.

This about commission is not so simple, the maths is a bit complicated than that. People easier decide to buy inexpensive things so you have more sales which add up, and the end result may be better than with expensive stuff. I have this all in sites, from $10 to $5000 price range and know how they sell.

On the other hand, you cannot have high-end products if you have a site about cat's food or dog hiking equipment. This is niche dependent and this is determined at the moment you start the site.

Adsense is far inferior to Mediavine which I have in several sites. Have started with Adsense so can compare. So wait till you get to the required limit and apply. The procedure is long, one month or so, I had issues with sidebar width in all sites so this had to be fixed. You will also have to add their plugin.

Wow. I didn't realize it was a long process, but I guess that makes sense. Hopefully, I won't have too many issues with my site when the time comes. :-)

Congrats! Applying for Mediavine was one of the best decisions I've made for my site. My AdSense RPM (revenue per thousand visitors) was around $8, but with Mediavine it hovers around $25-30. Mediavine is actually my most lucrative income source, having earned nearly $14k from it so far.

JSYK, RPMs differ from niche to niche. I have a bootcamp site (finance niche). The finance niche is known for having among the highest ad RPMs. A more typical RPM with Mediavine is around $15 from what I have heard.

Also, my bounce rate is about what yours is. There is certainly room for improvement, but don't sweat it too much if you can't get it below 80%. Bounce rates really depend on the niche from what I've seen.

Thanks for the inspiration!

You're welcome. :)

Congratulations! I need to learn some of your tricks! I've been working really hard on my website but nowhere near the traffic you're getting. 😀

Best of luck,
Devara

Pinterest! It's a great way to get good traffic to your site fast while you're building your SEO plan.

Thanks! I have a Pinterest and I'm up to 5.5K. I tried to stay active on Pinterest Twitter and my business Facebook page and YouTube channel, but it's hard to do all of that and while writing post, plus working! LOL
I'll just keep pushing forward!
I just wanted to thank you for the encouraging post!

Have you tried Tailwind? It's been a very effective tool for me. I use it to post passively to Pinterest, but I also make sure I do a lot of manual posting. But, I like it because it keeps your Pinterest profile active when you are too busy to manually post.

I remember it being mentioned in one of the training sessions, but never looked into. I'll check it out.
Thanks! (I'm up to 6.3k now!!)

Getting up to 5,000 - 10.000-word posts is stellar, Wendy Learn to write long term sales copy with that skill and you will really be on your way!

Yeah, I think my longest post so far is 3,000 words. I wouldn't mind a few longer ones.

Remember, Google counts comments when determining the length of a post. So if you have a 3,000 word post with comments that equal 2,000 words, Google looks at it as a 5,000 word article.

So using SiteComments is a great way to get your article counts up!

Janelle

Wow, I didn't know that. I have to work more on receiving more comments. I know this is definitely the place to do that. But, that's good to know. Thanks!

That is great Wendy, congrats on the traffic growth!!

My question would be with number of sessions why are you not able to monetize things more with affiliate marketing.

Leveraging mediavine, adsense, etc is earning pennies on the dollar for what your traffic is worth. With target affiliate promotions you should be able to generate more revenue than you could through mediavine.

Just do know that once you hand over your reigns to MV, you are giving up a great deal of control on your website.

What do you mean, by "you are giving up a great deal of control on your website", how bad or good can it be?

I have Mediavine on my site and absolutely love it. I would also contend that it has little to no affect on affiliate earnings. When I first placed ads on my site, my income more than doubled....

The control you give up is that Mediavine can experiment with where to place ads on your website to maximize revenue while maintaining a good user experience. I would gladly give them control over this, because that just means I don't have to run tons of split tests to figure out the best ad placements. They have extensive data to work with as well, and since they earn more when you earn more, they are heavily invested in finding the optimum ad placements.

Unless Kyle was referring to something I am not aware of..

Very helpful. Thanks

I am and I do plan on ramping that up. I've been networking with many bloggers who are monetizing their site with both and are doing very well with both. That's what my goal is.

Later down the road when my affiliate income is doing very well, I may take ads off my site completely. This is a short-term goal really.

Does anybody know what Kyle means with those 'target affiliate promotions'?

I agree, I can't speak for other ad networks but Mediavine has been great to work with in my experience. I was worried ads would hurt my conversions but it was actually the opposite. I think (but it's just a guess) that people subconsciously see national brands associated with your site and it gives you credibility.

Congratulations, Wendy

Thank you!

Hope you will reach the 25k milestone soon, Wendy.

Is your site a bootcamp or niche one?

If you have to start all over from scratch what would
you do differently?

Will you start with bootcamp course or OEC training?

Can you list out all the things you would do differently
so that you would have reached this 25k goal and
consistent $1000/month faster.

And any other advice for new premium members who
are starting from scratch.

Thank you, Wendy

It's a niche site. And, I think I would have hit that 25k mark a lot faster had I not taken the 2 months off and if I invested a little more time on my blog. I also work a full-time job right now as well, so that slows me down.

My advice is to definitely follow the training here that is already in place. That was my foundation. But, really the only thing different I'm doing is driving a lot of Pinterest traffic to my site while I build on my SEO game.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply,Wendy :)

Congrats!

Thanks!

If you can get your bounce rate below 50% you are doing well with that.

That would be awesome! :-) I'm working towards it.
