i need some help deciding between 2 similar-but-different domain names.

i had spent ages brainstorming domain ideas, the result of which was me finally settling on:

The second one gives you more attention as a writer I think.
You Are The Blogger! The first one may be a blog itself.

cheers for the input Rick, have gone with the 2nd one :D

I think the 2nd one is better. You want it to sound like a blog that others can do something with.

thanks Starcreator, i have chosen the 2nd one!

Choosing a domain name is a challenging game for any one, your second one looks good, so go for that one, it all comes down to gut feeling, I've been looking for another domain name for my www.sleeves.mybigcommerce.com website, I have spent countless hours and yet not really rang a bell for me until now as I was looking through tumblr and I came up with SQRTee, sort of short for "square tee" why SQR, it seems to look rite and it's easy to remember, people will of course know it as squaretee as time goes on, I have just registers it

cheers footprints10, yep i went with the 2nd one, seems to be the people's choice! i like your idea for your site name, SQRTee, its catchy, short etc. im sure it'll do well, good luck to you! :)

thanks for your help Dennis and Montie, I will go with the 2nd one! i think i can always transfer to the other if i change my mind, but its really much of a muchness! :D

Hey Sylvia. After reading what you said, you appear to have answered your question & made the decision within your thoughts. Do you want your service to focus on you or about what you are offering as a service? You said:"The 2nd places more focus on the blog itself", and "It just isn't my style to put myself so 'out there'." So what do you get from that? I get your 2nd choice as the way to go.I'm sure you will do great whatever you decide,so the best to you, smile, & have a great day!

Greetings Sylvia! Personally I like the second choice. It sounds a bit more professional to me. JMO.

Hey there Sylvia, this is probably a bit late but I much prefer the second one. How you also decided on that one too. Cheers, Simon

Cheers Simon, no worries thanks for your input, i did end up going with the 2nd one and i'm glad i did!
Sylvia :)

I like the second one better.

Hi Sylvia - I feel the opposite to you I think the 2nd one places more emphasis on you and it has a better ring to it. Just my opinion.

Hey Sylvia,

I think you can go with the coin toss on this. They are similar and in the end it's your content that is going to matter more than the name itself.

Best Regards,
Jim

cheers Jim, you're right....and i'm pretty sure i can always transfer to the other of the 2 domains if i change my mind.

I added a new page to my website but i cant see it except in admin mode. Can someone please help out?

Can’t find my published contents. Anybody know why??

What do you mean when you are saying that you can't find it?

I found it. I should write it thru WA not on WP. Take note everyone.

I added a new page to my website ... check it out,,"truth about fat loss". Hope u all like it ! fit40andbeyond.siterubix.com

Hi Susan, yes all good now, sorted, thanks for checking! :)

Did you get it sorted out Sylvia? If you want to I can help you on Skype. Let me know if you need any further help. My Skype is susanhindsoz

To make it a submenu so it appears under a parent menu, in the menu structure field click on the page and drag it to a position under the parent menu, then move it in the to right. It should drop into place indented underneath the other page. That will make it a sub menu that will drop down when you mouse over or click on the main menu.

fellow Aussie to the rescue, thank you Michael, that worked! I didnt know you could drag it across slightly to make it a sub-item...so easy! Cheers :) Sylvia

You try go to your "Appearance"
Select "Menus"
Tick the pages you want to appear on your site.
Then Click the box " Add to Menu"

I hope this can help you. All the best!

thanks for your help Cena...it got me a little further than i was however I cant seem to add the page Affiliate Networks to the menu item Affiiliate marketing....i want it to go under that menu item but it appears separately. I tried fiddling with the settings but so far nothing i tried works. any tips from anyone would be appreciated, thanks

heres my website for reference

You can refer to Jay Wordpress training. There a section under page vs post. Could be helpful for you. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/creating-and-managing-your-content

I have to thankyou for your advice I was honestly stuck on this now its fixed I have my pages separated from my posts weel I was ready to pack it in lol..Thankyou

Hi Sylvia If you log in to your site go to pages then look at the page you are talking bout does it say Draft like this below?
Become an Affiliate. - Draft
Edit | Quick Edit | Trash | Preview

Hi Andre, no, it doesnt say draft, ...further to the right hand side it says Published because i did publish it, but hasn't seemed to show up yet. I will next try Cena's suggestion above. Also, this issue first happened last night and i thought it might fix itself overnight with the logging out/PC shut down etc...but no such luck. I'm sure I'll figure it out soon enough! Cheers

Hi Again Sylvia are you trying to put the Affiliate Networks as a sub menu to the main Affiliate marketing menu. The way you have it now on your site is as if it is it own menu. if you want the marketing menu as a sub menu rather than having it directly underneath just click and how and move slightly to the right then release. You will also see the work sub within the box.

Hello all,

I'm currently up to Course 2, Lesson 4 in the Get Started Here section. My niche is affiliate marketing for beginners, but I mainly intend to use my site

Hi all, thanks for the feedback! Well I've had a number of responses and I think majority rules...I'll go with the Bootcamp I think!! Thanks again :-D ..and wishing you all amazing WA success. It's not a matter of IF, but WHEN!! :) Sylvia

Getting started courses are best to start with.

Don't you love all the answers you get?

I agree with the other posters, following the Bootcamp lessons is the fastest path to the money. I made my first sale on day two!

Hi Sylvia -- I started in getting started then switched to Bootcamp as I wanted to promote WA first then my own niche 2nd. So I believe you are doing the right thing! It is the advice I was given.

I chose the boot camp route as I thought it would be the best way to learn. All those in boot camp have something to compare their work against. On top of that, once I have completed boot camp I will be ready to tackle anything.

I have combined boot camp with lots of reading and product reviews to see how things fit together. I have found the comparisons extremely rewarding. I am now getting a good idea of what Internet marketing is all about, and how the successful Internet Marketers work.

I have not done the Getting Started Course, but I suspect that it doesn't matter which one you choose as you are learning the same thing in both of them. I suspect the many difference is that in book camp you are looking at promoting Wealthy Affiliate, and in Getting Started you are promoting a niche of your own choice. The principles are the same in either case.

thank you Jerry for the reply, hmm so that's interesting to hear, in that case I think I may give the bootcamp a go and see how I progress from there. From what I gathered I expect there is some overlap between the two courses, its just that that bootcamp is obviously focused on the WA promotion. Cheers again, take care :) Sylvia

thanks for the follow

no worries Hilary :)

Hello all, My name is Sylvia and I'm pretty new to WA having joined about 6 days ago. Currently up to Lesson 9 of Course 1, where I need to create my About Me and Privacy Policy

Update on this topic: for my first website www.newbieaffiliatemarketing.org I decided to go with my real profile...because I am promoting WA itself and if people click on my affiliate link/join up, they will see my profile pic and name etc...so I want to stay consistent/not cause confusion and come across as genuine (which I am! :D) ...for other websites/niches in the future I will consider what to do when I get the that stage. Wishing you all success here on WA :) Sylvia

I started talking about this with my adult daughter who also wants to start a business online. She wants to delete her Facebook account because it's FILLED with things like, "aaaargggh another 3 hour exam. I am sooooooooooooooo tired. Just wanna sleeeeeeeeeeep!!!!" The content is often silly with no relevance whatever to selling coffee beans or ebooks or whatever is the business/cause, etc.

In fact, both her and my FB pages are filled with silly family & friends fotographs... There's even political commentary poking fun at a candidate here or there, philosophical messages with butterfly images.... I've got pictures up of my children as babies....us in the local coffee shop...me playing sports.... again stuff that is Totally Irrelevant to the businesses we want to run and the Business & Google Authorship Persona/Profiles we now want to develop. SO....

The questions are:....

1) DO WE DELETE ALL THIS STUFF? ..... Do we "sterilize" our google+ and FB personal profiles?

2) When a Fan Likes our "business-or-cause Page", do we also try to "FRIEND" that Fan with our Personal FB profile, thus gaining more reach? Because I've noticed that "Pages -- for businesses or causes -- do not have the capability of "Liking" fans or sending Thank you notes to fans. only Personal Profiles can give Likes and write on others' walls.

3) If we Do decide to offer Facebook Friendship to a Fan that has liked our business-or-cause-Page, then shouldnt that personal profile page be....mmm.....sterilized of all irrelevant, personal and/or family content? (this is a rewording of question 1)

Please...how are you online business bloggers handling this mix of public and personal online??

Thanks in advance

Emme

Your personal FB is just that, your personal FB. It is your TL to post whatever you want to post. You don't have to delete every post for business purposes. I have a personal FB that I use to share my blog posts with my FB friends. I don't actively seek out new friends. If someone wants to send me a friend request, they can if they choose to. My TL is set to public, so they can see everything I've already posted. I also have a Follow button on my FB if people would rather Follow than friend.

I also have a business page. I don't friend any of my business page fans. You can toggle between your business page and your personal profile if you want to communicate with your fans as yourself on your business page. If one of my fans wants to send me a friend request, then that is up to them. I don't send them friend requests. They 'Liked' my page because they wanted to follow my page. They didn't want to necessarily follow or friend me. Basically, my personal FB is my personal FB and my page is where I do business.

I also have a Twitter, G+ and Pinterest which I don't really do much with. I share blog posts on my personal Twitter and G+ and I pin photos from blog to my personal Pinterest account. Some bloggers choose to set up separate Twitter, G+ and Pinterest accounts for their blogs. You can't do that with FB because you are only allowed one account, but you can make a FB Fan Page for your blog.

The company I'm an affiliate for prefers that we do business as ourselves. I've never had an alias online. I want to build trust with my customers as me. I don't have anything to hide, and I only use my personal social media accounts to promote my blog posts.

Sent you a PM :-)

I did this, as I was in a full time job when I first signed up. In the UK it's easy because you can use any name you like legally, open bank accounts, get PayPal, even a drivers licence and passport. If you think about it, authors do this all the time, they write under a Nom de Plume, I believe J. K. Rowling released a book under another name. However, be aware, that to maintain complete anonymity requires a bit of "work" and if someone makes an effort they'll probably be able to identity you, ie. you can deter casual visitors just by publishing under another name. Also, be careful never to share it with anyone that knows your real identity, or link via a tweet, FB, G+ etc. from your real identity accounts, etc. etc. Rich.

Really sounds like a hassle to manage a second, third, + identity. I have trouble enough with the "real" one ;-)

(ok, yes, Im joking a bit.)

No you don't have to have a picture of you and you can use an alternative name. I wouldn't use a stock photo of someone else. :) Beverley

I personally cannot understand why the need to remain anonymous but obviously I could be wrong.

There's a myriad of reasons, in my case one of them was that I was in full time employment when I joined WA, and my employer like many corporations kept tabs on their employees online behaviour. Rich.

yes thats true what @RICH said, and in fact i hadn't thought of that reason at the time of my post but it's yet another reason to remain anonymous, i would prefer my current/future employers do not know about my private online business pursuits, they could view it negatively.

I believe it's totally up to you. If you don't want anyone to know you personally I believe it's cool. But you will have keep up with appearances as though it is another person. Meaning you second identity if you choose to use an alias.

yes thats true. and i totally intend to remain 'authentic/real' etc, so apart from a different name/profile picture, i will still be the real me :D

Hi to you and to your posters below.

I think this is an interesting and important issue; at least, I've been mulling it over myself as well.

Like Lesmyb below, I've decided to go with the real me, but also eliminating addresses and phone numbers. On business profile pages (which or still in-process) I can "mask" myself because I can use an email generated by the host and I can upload a logo rather than my own foto.

However, and I open this question to the community at large, If I build a g+ profile page to support a niche website, and upload a LOGO in place of my mugshot, will my blogpost foto-as-logo still show in their search engine queue of results? or will there be no picture at all?

Publishing one's logo rather than one's face is certainly one way to retain privacy but does it mean google search will not "favor" you?

That said, if we DO choose to put our own mugs and personas online, it seems clear that we are putting just that: a persona. I'm not going to be posting genuinely personal pictures and posts on social media anymore now that I've decided to be an online "executive" (hahah). In fact, I'm even thinking of cleaning up what's currently on my FB page. Putting it in alignment with my WA-style pursuits... After all, I can still share family fotos via dropbox or email with those I really want to share with, no? I'm really not sure.

What does the WA community say?

Emme

thank you for your thoughts and comments, I will take those on board and indeed everyone elses :)

it is all a matter of preference, and accepting what comes with our choices, maybe we just need to make the "less wrong" choice for us?

Says "nomda ploom" = nom de plume :-) ...

mmmm I am detecting a challenging sense of humour? I use my real name elsewhere, that said...busted!

Thought about this too and am still thinking about changing my pic and name. I dont see how it could affect your traffic or anything. Better to protect yourself.

thanks for the comment Dorian, i agree, I'm definitely leaning towards an alias profile.
