I have had that problem before. Looks like you got good help below. Good luck!

looks better, now if you go to GA and in the left panel under "standard reports" your will see a function called real time, click that then the overview button directly underneath.

This shows who is currently on your site, if your tracking is working it will show at least one visitor. Make sure you change page on your website after switching to real time or it wont register your there

Any other problems just let me know.

thanks for the help !!

Think I have the same problem as well. Have not had a visit for a couple days. Although I have been emailed about a new subscriber.

Post your sites url or PM it to me if you don't want it public and i,ll be happy to take a look to see if your tracking is in place.

Script is in place but your Google analytic,s code is wrong.

['_setAccount', 'UA-0000000-0']);

They shouldn't all be zeros, this wont track anything on your site. You need to go back to GA, get code from your account and replace the faulty one on your site.

Think I know where that problem arises from. I had downloaded the GA plugin as I was unaware of the video that Kyle had posted about GA or any other training on it for that matter. I was suggested GA so I figured it was a plugin and that is the code give. Then I watched the video Kye posted after I inquired about the site not being tracked etc.So hence why I may have the script and the code with all the zeros. So what to do to? delete the GA plugin? or put in the code in the GA plugin area?

If the plugin is there just putting your GA code in will correct the problem.

Let me know once its done and I will take another look for you and show you how to tell if its working properly

Finished.

The webmasters code needs to stay on site as the nice people at Google do check every so often and your site will become unverified in webmaster tools if its not there :)

You can put it in the all in one SEO plugin settings now, just scroll down to the bottom of the settings page.

BTW Like the theme your using and the customization options, have bookmarked the makers page for possibly future use.

All the best

Using a plugin to manage your tracking keeps it outside of the core theme and not effected by changes. I only see the All in One SEO plugin installed on your site, install the Google analytic,s for WordPress plugin and set tracking up that way.

Please make sure your site is backed up before installing any plugin as even though things going wrong is rare it can happen.

Make sure any tracking code you installed manually is completed gone before using plugin or it could mess with the results.

Ok thanks Carl, I'll try that. I installed the code manually as that's what Kyle says to do in the instruction video - he actually says not to use the plugin. I'll use the plugin and hopefully it will be sorted.

The other code that's missing I remember was the webmaster tools verification code. I'm not sure that's needed once the site has been verified though.

In the training on SEO All in One, Kyle says that you shouldn't enter any page titles, descriptions and keywords in the SEO fields on a page for page basis, that SEO All in One

It seems I've fixed the problem. I removed the social media display from the header and now google displays the first line and a bit of the actual text as it should. The theme I have has various options for placing the social media icons, obviously if they're in the header it screws up the google page description.

Thanks for the replys. This exercise has taught me a few things - to be mindful of the first couple of lines on each page, and that it's ok to put in the occasional page description if the text doesn't match what you want.

Cheers
Michael

I am not an expert and as already suggested it could be my theme, but I do enter stuff in those fields because if I don't, it just defaults to the first line of whatever is in my poast. Sometimes that is ok, but not always. I guess what I would like to know is why is it suggested that we leave those fields blank? What is the downside? Anyone?

If you leave it blank, Google will put in what it wants. It may select something relevant or it may be odd looking. When you enter into the meta description, you can control what people see when they view the Search Result.

Leave the Keyword box empty, Google will use the most relevant terms.

Does this happen for every page and post on your website? If it does then I would definitely say it is theme related.

If it doesn't and it is only this one page then I would go into the description meta tag and type what I want into there. I rarely ever fill in those fields in the All In One SEO Pack area but sometimes I have to. On my WA review the first text is Name: Wealthy Affiliate, Owners: Kyle & Carson, Price: $0.00 for Starter Membership, Rating: 9.8 out of 10,...

For several weeks my review was hovering around Google Page 5. So I went in and manually changed the description meta tag to something more descriptive and with 7-10 days my review moved up to Google Page 3. And there was another page on my website, an FAQ page, that I did the same thing to and that too went up in SERP after making the change.

So my point is, that if this problem is only for this one page, then go ahead and change the description meta tag. I doubt it will hurt your SERP since it helped both of my pages. Sometimes you just have to override the AIO SEO and provide your own info.

I found your "Stargazing for Beginners" on page 7 on Google and you are right! I don't want to lead you down the garden path, but for my 10 cents worth, I think the problem has to do with your themes header. I'm not sure... and why I've mentioned this is because the names of your social media are showing which is in the header and part of your menus,Home and what's included in your getting started menu which is directly underneath your header. I would have a look in "appearance < customize and see what you can do from there. I could be wrong but my intention is good. You have a nice website and I'm sure that you will be able to fix this! :) cheers Patti

Here's what I normally do with this.

Since you would put a synopsis of the page in the form, why not do that right on your page. I do this and I italicize it. It's right on the top of the content, acts as an introduction and the search engines usually take what comes up first on the page (though this isn't always true, much of the time, it does.)

Make sure this synopsis is about 160 characters long and see what happens.

Hope this helped.

Thanks, Daniel. The problem is that it's not taking what comes up first in the text. I do have an introduction of sorts at the start of each page (though not italicized.) It's not using that at all. It's putting the content of my header and menu as the description. I'd be happy if it used the first 100 or so characters of the text.

Great question. I want to see some expert responses…….
