This is a question that I get asked quite a bit. A lot of people getting started online, even if they aren't directly interested in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) will natur

Thank's for the post, i will park into training as not started on bootcamp yet.

Glad you liked it George, there's going to be more where that came from, hopefully you can get a little something out of it.

That information is evergreen for any site you might be promoting.

Over the years some of the functionality has changed, but the commands have stayed pretty much the same.

I just with that anchor: and allinanchor: still worked, but the big G did away with those loooong ago.

Excellent information here...thanks James...

You're very welcome Arthur! I hope you found a keeper or two out of it.

Thank you for the compliment

Hi James, many thanks for sharing. definitely will be doing exactly just that when I get to complete my Bootcamp training.

Take care.

Johan.

It's great info and a lot of fun isn't it?

It took me a little while to warm up to the idea of the sheer amount of writing that it takes, but I'm hooked now!

Thanks Johan, you take care too!

James

Great info here, thanks for sharing. :)

Hi Grace! Thank YOU, I'm glad you stopped by!

You're so welcome. Have a great weekend!

When I provide site feedback, I almost always leave a comment. To be clear, I NEVER leave feedback inside a comment on someone's site, I do add a natural comment.

Hi James .. I think that Grace (littlemama) "nailed" it .. this issue is confusing to so many peope as it is already .. better to keep commenting and giving feeback separate even if less efficient, which is what you are correctly pointing out. Cheers, William.

My friend, if this question proved nothing else, based on some of the responses, you and Grace are overwhelmingly correct. :D

Hey James,

When we comment on each other's websites, we need to keep in mind to comment though we have just searched for this information and are very happy to have found it.

Offering feedback, in the real world, you would NEVER tell a webmaster that you disliked their choice of font in a comment. However, you might reach out to that webmaster using their contact form, making it a private conversation.

Thanks Trish, but I think you missed my point.

I'm not saying we would provide feedback IN a comment, just feedback and then a comment.

Why not "kill two birds with one stone", if someone asks you for feedback on the content of the page?

This way, since you are reading the content anyway, once you've given your constructive feedback, optionally provide a comment for the page, just as you would if you'd gone through the "Site Comments" system.

That way you, as the person doing the feedback and then posting a real comment (pretending like you just found the page), would get 1 credit for feedback, and another for your comment.

The page author would benefit two-fold as well. Once from the constructive (private) feedback, and once for the (original and insightful) comment.

Just a though. :)

Nope James, I didn't miss your point at all. It is considered to be courteous to NOT offer feedback within a website comment ... be it a fella' WA member's website or a total stranger's website.

If you did that to a total stranger's site, I can promise you that your comment would be deleted though spam.

I have taken the time to reach out to newer members here ... privately ... to assist them in polishing their websites. I would NEVER do that in anyone's comment ... EVER.

Guess what I'm saying is you're trying to re-invent something that works well as it is now. Try not to do that to yourself as you will only make the training more difficult ... and, possibly frustrating.

Thanks again for your response Trish. But I seem to be unable to explain the intent of my question to you.

Like you, I would NEVER, EVER even consider posting feedback inside a comment on someone's website. That is exactly NOT what my question was asking.

That's simply bad form, and that is not what I'm asking at all.

I've edited the original question in a hope to better clarify the intent of my question. Perhaps someone reading this that understands what I'm asking could help me to clarify it further?

Ooooh ...I THINK I gotcha' now James ... and I'm guessing you don't realize that once someone accepts your comment it gets published immediately onto the website ... you know, automatically.

If we started offering feedback in comments it would take extra time editing out. Personally, I never edit the comments for content ... only fix spelling ... 'cause like one member suggested ... what IF someone took a screen print of what they submitted and then the person receiving edited out what actually got accepted.

Editing comments COULD lead someone to accuse the website owner of fraud ... and that would be too costly to come back from.

Again ... this is my personal opinion.

I find that some people don't know the difference between a comment and a feedback. So keeping them separate will help distinguish the two.

Thanks for your reply Grace, I'm glad you understood my question. :)

I see your point, and agree that it would likely get confusing.

Naw James, I get your point and I think you're right on. Grace is right on the money too. I just got spanked by someone bigtime on one of my sites... couldn't believe they did it either. I wouldn't have considered them a noob so I'm still baffled as to why they would do it. Sure does make me want to just forget about asking for comments and feedback! That really is a task in training that I'm tempted to skip over!

Great point though, partner!!!

Randy

Wow, yeah that's bad. I get maybe offering some advice on PM or during feedback, but in a comment for the world to see? No way!

Don't give up, there's always gonna be those that cause some head shaking, but when you get those that actually get it, those comment are worth the wait.

Luckily most of my experiences with comments and feedback have been good.

Thanks Randy!

Hi Randy,

Sorry to hear that!

You can also try these threads here:

Comments: Feedback: You don't get credits but I've been using the comment thread since my site is not hosted here, so I get my comments from that thread. Most are good, there was one recently that was feedback instead of comment so you just have to educate them when this happens. It hasn't happened in awhile, but I guess it still happens.

Also make sure every comment on your website needs your authorization before it posts.. this way, you can catch those feedback comments and delete them instead of approving them.

Don't give up on comments, it's good for your site. :) I have over 600 comments on my site because of this community. I'm thankful for it!

I remember when this option first started, man it was crazy...LOL! I didn't go anywhere near this feature. I just kinda sat back and watched while they tried to iron things out and get everyone to try and understand the concept.

May be time for Jay to cover it again briefly on a Friday evening! I'll definitely use the system again only I'll delete the 'bad' comments without any remorse... so to speak,(-;

Thank ya' much James!

Thank ya' Grace,

I did have these both bookmarked... didn't realize it until I clicked on 'em both...LOL!

I'm not real worried about credits but like you, totally get the value of comments on our sites.

I reckon I need to have a little thicker skin and just not approve the rookie stuff. I've always felt bad not approving each and every comment when I thought it was given with good intention but I should have been a little colder this last time and just not approved it

Reckon us old bowsers can still learn a bit about toughening up the 'ol skin, ey? (-;

Thank ya' so much Grace... sure do appreciate it!

What's the gist on Quora? Are you using it?

Quora seems to be getting more and more popular, I'm curious how people see it fitting in with their strategies.

Subnetbuzz, I am a member of Quota. I have used the site previously in the past for affiliate marketing tips. As Jozeph mentioned it is q&a, for any question. I used it for a resource for different marketing ideas. Be careful this site can pull you in..lol

Hi I use Quora it's a great way to promote your authority within your niche. You can answer questions and link to your own website where appropriate, like everything it depends on time and I only use for one of my sites.

Quora came on the scene around 2009-10, and was believed that it would hit tops, even better than twitter.
I see it pop up here and there in conversations, but it's petered out a lot the last few years.
It was kind of a question and answer platform, with every Q&A imaginable :)
Hope this helped, not much, it's all I know about it :)
Have a great Sunday

Never heard of it, will look into it! thanks! =)

At first I "froze". I was enthusiastic, energized, ready to be a winner! Then; crickets. I had to kick myself; you know where!

Now, I did get over that hump and I still, I guess you could call it procrastinate, because I feel I NEED to Know Everything first instead of Just Doing.

I have to read this and I have to read that and I have to know ALL about this and that before I do it.

I'm getting better though at Just Doing It; but it's a work in progress!

Good conversation thanks!

I've known LOTS of people like this. That's got to be one of the hardest things. Like you said, just do it!

Many people think if they make a mistake it's all over. The Internet, oddly enough, is a pretty forgiving place...well, unless your sex tapes get out, just ask Paris Hilton :)

Haha. It really is. I think one of my biggest problems was just fear of putting my "words" out there; ridicule, people I know seeing it and having something to say etc. etc.

The odd part was I really didn't expect that of myself. But, one post and now I just don't care ;)

Oh my... That is TOTALLY ME... Must feel I fully understand something before I get started because that feeling that I will messed it up LOL... Learning to JUST DO IT BEEN A WORK IN PROGRESS BUT I AM GLAD I AM NOT ALONE LOL ;)...!

I don't have any glaring obstacles, but I do tend to let people get into my life sometimes who would love nothing more than to suck the life from me and keep my attention away from my purpose. I've learned to spot them quickly and cut them out of my ratpack.

Yeah, you've got to be careful who you listen to and consider all sources of advice/information. Time sucks are hard, but luckily I don't think I have too many of those that "suck the life from me" thankfully :)

This is tough too. I think before I gave it "real thought" I didn't realize how many negative people were around. It's hard to cut ties but it lessens our burden!

And, of course some of these people are good friends and family you don't necessarily want to cut out of your life but I've learned to minimize my contact and Control conversations before they head where I don't want them to go.....the negative path.

Best Wishes to you!

Nice! Controlling conversations is a strategy I often use too. There IS a lot of negativity, and it's amazing how one's own aspect of the universe can be leveraged for or against that negativity.

Yes, Controlling Conversation saves Time, lot of time.

To be honest, I have been extremely successful in everything I have ever done. no matter what I do from music to IT to online businesses. .. I do the same things and it always works.

Must be nice not having ANY obstacles at all getting in the way of your success.

My biggest obstacle is self-doubt. When I'm writing, I thoroughly enjoy it but once I've published it, I have serious doubts whether anyone will want to read it.

I read voraciously, and assume others are like-minded. Everyone has a message to get out and a story to tell. Your thoughts are every bit as worthy as anyone else's :)

Thanks for sharing Erica

I am like you, I am King Procrastinator and used to be terrible. WA has given me a whole fresh leash on life and made me realize that I'm quite capable of achieve great things if I force myself to shift my butt lol

I make lots of notes now, ideas for articles, keywords etc. After a few days I find I have a whole bunch of ideas for new articles/posts.

Your points are spot on. I have a very small attention span. Always jumping from this to that to this then that. I have to make myself sit and do the same thing - even when it gets boring (which is after 30seconds).

Get out of my mind jajajajajajajajajajaja... Yeap, that is me. Writing is my biggest obticle... Then, after I write it, it's never good enough to be publish according to me LOL ;)...!
Practice makes perfect

Yeah, that's me too. I was one of those kids in school that was smart enough to do the homework with very little help, and in fact would DO the homework, and then...not turn the homework in! What's THAT about?!

Oh boy LOL... I'm one of those who writes letters but never make it to their destination... I am just realizing, maybe because deep inside I didn't feel confident of what I had written... Making me think lol ;)...!

I just wanted to say thank you... After reading your post I did a little experiment n I ended up writing 10 posts n 2 blogs have not publish yet but getting there little by little...!

Wow! 10 posts in 2 blogs is a great achievement! Way to punch through that procrastination, nicely done :)

I agree with both! Break it down into small steps, focus and take action. Procrastination drives me nuts and I always feel better once I get started!
