I just noticed that the WordPress 6.0 update is available. Are there any problems or things to look out for? Thanks.

Joe

Hey Joe,

Do be sure to do a full backup of your website, BEFORE updating your WordPress and then you will have a way to restore your website if the update fails in any way.

Personally, I've updated several sites now and have had NO issues whatsoever.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks, Trish. I did update with a plugin and by exporting content prior to updating.

Joe

No problems here. A complete back-up you create with an FTP saving.

I upgraded with no problem whatsoever!

Happy to hear it. Thanks.

Joe

I updated mine and haven't had any issues.

Great news! Thanks.

Joe

I had no problem with it. All went smooth as silk.

thanks for the good news.

Joe

I've updated a bunch of sites and no issue at all so far.

Normally the issue will raise its head right after updating and the worst-case scenario is the white screen of death. This is usually caused by an incompatible plugin.

When we have Cpanel access, we can go into the file manager, deactivate all the plugins, and usually regain the ability to log into our admin panel. You'd then activate one plugin at a time until you find the party crasher.

With WA you'd have to have them do that for you. I can only imagine how busy they'd be if everyone upgraded at the same time and a common plugin crashed every site. Yikes!

Just remember to back up your site prior to upgrading to a new WP version.

Thanks a lot for all the tips.

Google Analytics shows no traffic for me today. This has happened before and at that time it was a problem from their end.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Great, Stephen. That is what I am hoping for. Thanks.

Joe

Its my understanding that WA does scheduled updates and occasionally things need to be reset.
My issue, early this week involved not receiving blog post alerts.
I was advised to check notifications.
After resetting I received some and found some in my email spam file.
I hope things work out.

Stephen

Thanks for the additional info.

Just moments ago my Google Analytics showed real-time traffic on one of my posts, so it appears that my issue has been resolved. I'll keep my eye on it and go from there.

Hey Joe,

Here's a video to help you: When I received a complaint from a vendor regarding a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) Copyright Violation Notification, he stated the EXACT URL of the image... and I simply added a large white privacy image over top of that image, and added text stating "image removed at vendor's request."

This complied with he DMCA standards and all was settled.

Hope this helps you.

That's very useful, Trish. Thanks. I had forgotten you had done this training which I looked at before.

Joe

A lot of good advice already posted here. But if there is any doubt in your mind, and as others have noted copyright infringement is serious and you don't want to end up on the nasty side of that, it should be safe to respond to the email saying you were not able to find the images they are claiming you are using and ask them to be more specific. From a legal perspective if you keep the conversation going then that shows you are engaging and that is in your favour. If they do have a case and if you ignore it then that can place you in a bad situation. Also, as you engage and s you are serious that will tend to winkle out if they are not serious and scamming. They will just back away or start making ridiculous demands.

But as others have said, this is most likely a scam.
Good luck
Andy

Good idea, Andy. I'll do that. Thanks a lot.

Joe

you should be able to find the sender address from the email and if it is genuine then a quick search in google for the last bit will show something up....
copyright violation is something to take seriously as it can cost a lot of money...
but if there are no images referenced then in the email then they don't have anything...
i have seen genuine ones and they state which article and which image to help you take them out...
others are not so lucky and are taken straight to court ...
so always be careful where you get your images from...

phil

Thanks a lot, Phil

I got a similar email the other day, and that was spam. Site support confirmed with me this was a scam.

Good luck,
Jude

I'll check with site support. Thanks.

This looks like another "copyright-protected images scam". Just Google that and you will see blog warnings that are exactly the mail they did to you.

Since you know how you get your images....I won't bother about this if I were you.

Hey Joe,

Once you have optimized your database, you no longer need to keep that plugin installed... and you've already received advise on the other plugins... though, Virtual Robots you have listed as txt file and not a plugin.

Hope you find this helpful.

Hi Trish,

Thanks. Virtual Robots.txt is the name of the plugin. I can't remember why I have it. Someone recommended long ago.

I'll deactivate the database plugin and see how it goes.

Best regards,
Joe

Actually I have to disagree. A database is like a living organism. They change constantly. I optimize my website once a week and it is probably one of the top 3 ways I keep my website fast. I use wp-optimize and after 1 week I always have pingbacks, trackbacks, post-revisions, items in trash, expired transient options, multiple types of unused meta-data, and orphaned relationship data that can all be deleted from my tables. I would keep something, just sayin...

Yes Kaleb, your are correct regarding the importance of optimizing your wp database.

However, in between uses, it can be removed so that the plugin won't interfere with the site's loading time. As long as a plugin is installed... deactivated or live... it will add to the loading time.

WA hosted sites now receive a great plugin for optimizing images: and it seems to be doing the best of all of this type of plugin.

Yes I suppose you can install and uninstall the plugin every week, but if your site is scary fast with it, its so much easier when this is not needed.😉
And I am afraid you have no plugin-to-plugin spec comparison to be able to say which image optimization plugin performs better either. I am glad you are loyal to WA as they are the most amazing platform I have ever encountered, but plugins come and go. Don't get too attached.

Having been creating websites since we only had HTML to use, I tend to not get too attached to any one system.

The internet is ever changing Kaleb and Joe is looking for a way to make his site load faster, thus my initial comment to him.

Wow... that's quit the slap on my face Kaleb.
Hope you've enjoyed being mean. Bullying is NOT what I am here for.

I said I was kidding. I'm sorry. I guess you are not a joker. I apologize

If there is one thing that has driven me absolutely crazy at times, it is page speed. Not to mention that Google is starting to rely on it more and more and more. On top of that, googles page speed insights is absolutely not something to rely on. There are plenty of other options that are much better, much more reliable, and much more exact here is a picture of my dashboard currently. I have had to go back-and-forth a lot enabling and disabling and trying other plugins to get my sight screaming fast. My condensed backup is about 280 megs and I am still a one on desktop and 4 on mobile.

Kaleb,

Thanks for your comments. I am still trying to digest everything to see what works.

Best regards,
Joe

Btdubs @j52powell, I tried smush (image optimizer) first as well, but it made my images unspawnable so I use EWWW...It saves more space as well. WebP savings are about an avg of another 30%
What is your site? I would like to see it please

I used EWWW before and got a much better result after switching to Smush.

My site is https://myscubadivinggearguide.com

Thanks.

Good for you! Unfortunately every plugin works differently for every single person that installs it. The truly important thing is to find out which one works best for YOU. Well played sir 😉

Wow this rocks!

Thanks for showing me that and your help along the way!

Hi Joe, I personally would not use anyone of the plugins you have mentioned.
Not sure if you are using any other plugins.
One for image optimization, I would go to Kraken.
My speeds are in the green for desktop and two in orange for mobile:
You can try these and always de-activate them if they do not increase your speed. These are the ones I use:
Classic Editor
Kraken Image Optimizer
Really Simple SSL
Shareaholic - Grow and Engage Your Audience
Easy Table of Contents (use if only you feel you need it)
Rank Math SEO
UpdraftPlus - Backup/Restore ( I only activate it if I want to do a back up. It stays de-activated otherwise.

Hope it helps.

Best wishes,
Michael

Thanks, Michael.

I'll remove those I mentioned and see how speed is affected.

I didn't have a good result a year ago using Kraken. I use Smush instead.

Otherwise my plugins are about as minimal as yours.

Best regards,
Joe

I think the Health Check & Troubleshooting slows things down, Joe. Try this tool to see what differences the plugins make to your site speed
https://tools.pingdom.com/

Thanks a lot, Marion. I'll check speeds at Pingdom and try removing the Health Check plugin.

Joe

I deactivated the Health Care Plugin but even before doing so on the Pingdom site you suggest my performance grades were already mostly 100s. That seems strange since on the WA tool and Google PageSpeed Insights the scores were much lower. For example, one post that scored 100 on Pingdom scored 70 on desktop and 17 on mobile on Google PageSpeed Insights. That sure seems like they are not on the same page. It looks like I need to understand the analysis that appears down below on Pingdom.
