On the edit part of wordpress when you are editing a page, what does the page attributes section do?It has a parent field which lists all your pages, what does this do?

See Bill has covered this for you, some themes do not support this function though

Hi, It looks like Bill gave you a good answer to your question...

Try this link https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/ Page attributes allows you to nest pages.

Don't have that option.
Ed

I do not think this has any function at all. Drop-down menu you can make by dragging pages to desired positions. Regarding the question which is more beneficial, it is the same. Your page or sub-page will have its own url so it does not matter.

Thank you

Thanks,so which is more beneficial to have? Keep a page with no parent or to assign it to a parent?

It depends really on how you want your site to look. Here's an example:

If people come to your website about let's say animal clothing. You want your menu navigation to contain your top level pages. Probably things like home, about me, clothes for pets, pet clothes reviews, etc, etc.

Your navigation menu is only so wide on your site too so if you put too many pages across the top it will start to overlap your other content.

So let's say you wrote pages about: cat clothing, dog clothing, etc, etc. for every animal under the sun. Let's say you had pages and pages of those kinds. It would be better to group them under one main page such as "clothes for pets" instead of taking over your whole front page with 28 different animal clothing menu items. All the attributes does is keep those 28 pages tucked away in your menu bar and gets accessed by your visitor if they hove over it.

You could always do a test on your site and see if you like how it looks or not. Some themes though make navigation menus look great and other themes make them look terrible if you have to many menu items and they start to overlap your page content.

ok thanks :)

Hi Darryl,

Page attributes let's you organize your pages within your site menu. Ever see a site where you hover over the menu bar and a drop down list expands? It uses the page attributes function to group your website pages under a master navigation heading.

The default in page attributes is "no parent" that means you want that page to stand on its own on your website. If you click the drop down box you can assign your current page to be organized under any of your other pages.

So every page that you put under a parent page will end up within it in your site menu.

Thanks,so which is more beneficial to have? Keep a page with no parent or to assign it to a parent?

It depends on the relationship you want the pages to have to each other. Dogs and Cats would be two "no parent pages" Info about dog collars and leases could go under Dogs and info about cat bells and cat food would go under Cats.

How do I get global ads to play on the space that I have adsense running on my site?

A good question for all of us

Hi there,darrylg1
and thank you for the follow, is there anywhere else, where you can allow your global adds to play,

reasoning things it can hurt your ratings, Google is Google that's it first and foremost, Google= AdSense = tracking= analytics= Alexa Traffic Ranks= micro= Google bots= GS !

with that being said, keep it as simple as possible sometimes and our desires delivered we can overdo a thing for the long run. Alexa Traffic Ranks Is for the long run. best believe that this is a subsidiary of Google.

Marion and Pisquali are correct...

You will see Adsense ads for your country and I will see them for mine. You will also see ads relating to your online browsing as well as the ads which are related to the individual posts and pages. The big G sees and knows all and serves up the ads it thinks the viewer wants. ~Marion

My understanding is that everyone sees the ads that pertain to them. Unless the user turns off some stuff in their browser, google ads are aimed at the users past browsing history. That is I believe mentioned in the privacy statement so it gives them the option to go turn it off.

Wow! This is a good question. If you have google adsense can you get in touch with them and ask.

Good question!
Ed

Try going to your google adsense account look at custom channels see if you can create it from there

The adsense ads will run based on who is viewing your site. The ads are served to you, and you have very little control, but they should be tailored to your reader.

who tailors them to the reader? Google?

on the sitecomments page why when I approve a comment for my website does my reply appear to come from admin and not show my gravatar?

Thank you for your post. I couldn't understand why I couldn't fully edit my site under my author name and your post prompted me to go back over the training; lo and behold, I had my author name set as Author and not Administrator! It definitely pays to read members posts and go back over the training when in doubt!

Thanks for asking the question.Got several good responses.

When you are about to reply you are given the option to reply as admin or your user name. If you do not select your user name, admin will be selected.

thanks Darryg,I haven't got to course 2 or I don't remember. I'll try it now.Marty

Thsnk you Mackiejw!

Can I suggest you go back and review Online Entrepreneur Certification Course 2 - Making Face as a Real person. This teaches you how to create a new user for your site to replace admin.

It shows as WHO you log in to your site. If admin, it shows Admin, ok?

Now, create a user account with the Nick Name you want to show, give it ADMIN privileges, then always log in as such.

Connect your image with gravatar.com and it will show wherever you leave a comment, or reply to a comment on your site.

Thank you for your question, and I learned something. thanks...Linda

Also, if both admin and your gravatar is listed there you have to select your gravatar account when you give and reply comments. I removed my admin to make it easier.

As Admin, you should change it in WordPress. Dashboard=>users=>edit=>nickname
