3 Uses Of The Keywords Meta Tag
Hello folks.Contrary to popular belief the meta keyword tag is not dead but alive and kicking and still used. Even though Google does not use the keyword meta tag, many search engines still do. I personally still believe that the keyword meta tag is a good location to include words that you want indexed where those same words are not included with your content.
My best 3 examples for using the keywords meta tag are:
1. To include word and phrase replacements of words that are not included in the content of your site. People browse using many versions of phrases and words. Sometimes it is hard to include all the various variations of those words in the content of your site without making your site sound like a keywords page.
2. To place focus on certain words. It is not always easy to place your major keywords at the top of your webpage or in a<h1>tag. The major keywords might not be introduced until the middle of your web page. Making use of the keywords meta tag, you can add these keywords to notify the search engines that these words are important.
Remember two important guidelines when using this tag: When emphasizing keywords, do not place the same keyword more than two times in the keywords meta tag. This could be considered keyword spamming and can reduce your ranking value. Also, do not place irrelevant keywords in your meta tag. Using less relevant keywords could get your site banned from many search engines.
3. One other use for the keywords meta tag is to add words from different languages. A multi-language site with one language as its default page might want to add words from all other different languages to attract people speaking languages that are different than the language of the default page.
There you go people.I use the keyword meta tag and will continue to do so.If you on the other hand want to heed the advice of anti keyword meta tag users feel free to continue doing so.

Have a great day or evening wherever you are.

Robert, a good pointer on the foreign language keywords, thank you.
Even if your site is in English it will most likely receive visitors from other countries.Always worth checking with Google analytics where your visitors are coming from.
If your site attracts a lot of visitors from Germany for example it might be worth entering relevant German keywords as they might use German keywords initially to see if anything can be found before resorting to English.
You can also research keywords used in countries where it is known that they generally have a very good understanding of English. It might just give you the edge. This all depends upon the niche being relevant of course.
Hello Dave and thank you for your comment, hope someone with your experience went away with at least one tip or piece of advice.
I receive lots of visitors from Asian/Indonesian countries but as their language pretty tricky to get a handle on and most of the words are real tongue twisters I'm afraid I resort to the easy way out and use the Google Translator on my site.
But your point is worth remembering because a lot of WA members are Asian/Indonesian and they probably do quite well in their own countries promoting in their own language but hopeless in English speaking ones.
Of course the other side of the coin is we are crap promoting in their countries.
With the European countries I think we stand a better chance because the translators are pretty good. So publish in English with a transltor onsite is the best way round the any language barrier.
Have an excellent day.

Thank you, Robert! I'm totally supporting your position- meta tags still important.
I have a question to you- what in your opinion is the better keyword- "how to get premium keyword research tool free" or "premium keyword research tool free"?
Thank you. Kirill.
Hello Kirill.
I would go with the 'How To' one.

I have a slightly perverse use of the meta tag.
I use notepad to list all the keywords I want on the page, along with their QSR and their "Searches" number.
I then load the meta tag with all those keywords, so they are right in front of me while I construct the snippet to read the way I want it.
When I'm happy with the snippet I copy the description to become the first para on the page, and I move the contents of the meta tag below it so I can use it to build out the rest of the page.
Chris if it works for you then don't change your way of doing things.
You are going to have to put in a Keyword for your title so it makes sense to have the best possible keyword Tag you can come up with whether the almighty google will recognize it or not.
There are billions of people worldwide who will type in their own particular search terms and you have to try to match what they have typed in and it doesn't matter a damn what the search engines look for its the people that matter.
Good SEO Practice is a different matter entirley which I have covered in other blogs.

No.
Fact: Google doesn't use the keyword tag. Has ignored it for years.
Fact: Bing - which also powers Yahoo - uses it in a negative way and has done since 2011. They use it to find spammers. They definitely don't reward people who use it.
Obvious question : Why on earth would you use it when the search engines that are used by 95% of all internet users either ignore it or use it negatively?
Makes no sense at all to recommend people use it.
Ian people ask me questions, they ask my opinion - I try to answer those questions and give my opinion.
This blog is to answer those questions and give my own opinion.
Whether people take heed of my answers and opinion is entirely up to them.
I can't stop people asking for my advice unless I untick all the boxes in my Account and I don't want to do that.
I disagree with you and anyone else who suggests that I stop doing this, that or the other or is it that you think I'm not entitled to an opinion and should follow the herd? This I will not do!
I recommend the keyword tag because it works for me.
Use or don't use it is your decision.
