As far as I can tell when someone leaves WA, their Profile remains, together with the premium tag if that was their status prior to leaving.

How can you tell if a member has

It seems that a profile could be tagged once someone leaves and contact could be made if that is wanted by the one who left....Dick

I agree with the tagging idea but it would not make business sense to permit people from "now" outside to continue to send members messages as they could conduct their training by proxy in effect for free. This would disadvantage all members in the end.

After all the community is a large part of the membership here within WA which continues long after the initial training.

Please see the screen shot below...

You will see what I mean about the ex. members WA rank going sky high! :)

http://screencast.com/t/kgpOdnonXht2

Thanks David

I see what you mean. Not sure if this happens quickly or just in the natural order of things as people with more recent content overtake each other. I can't remember what my rank was when I joined, don't pay much attention to it as I realised pretty quickly it was just a WA business tactic only.

Your WA rank starts at 100,000 - and drops fairly quickly.

Let's say someone get's to 100 - and then cancels their membership -- Their rank soon goes up to a very high figure.

One of the reasons a profile is never deleted is of course the fact that they can return at any time. If you look closely within wealthy affiliate's you will see people who have come and gone five or six times

True, I must admit it is comforting to learn that if you leave and return your blogs and training are not lost as people leave for many reasons
such as financial or family commitments not related to WA at all.

It would be just good to know whether someone is still available for contact or not. So just something like Ghosting the "Premium" label would suffice.

Though I am sure there are business reasons why that is not done ; )

I second your perspective regarding that! I was also trying to reach the person who influenced me to premkum membership but he already begged out! Thanks for bringing this out for discussion! Cheers!

I think when someone decides to leave, the profile should be deleted so there is no confusion. You bring up a very good topic for discussion.

As Caraid said, I think it's because they may have done useful blogs or training. I agree though, maybe some sticker to indicate the member has left could be useful. :)

Thanks Kathy

My reason for asking is that I tried to send someone a Private Message who I am 99% sure has left. The system let me send that message. To me the Private Message button should be disabled.

I totally understand why peoples profiles remain as they may have contributed valuable blog content and training still useful to members here.

Yes, or some way of indicating the member has left.

Don't confuse being inactive with leaving. I can think of the top of my head of at least two members who I have not seen around for at least four years yet I know that they are still members here

Good question Davel, It is kind of a weird thing. I have met several people here virtually and really have enjoyed exchanging messages, both training wise and as friends. A couple of them have just up and disappeared. One of them at least left a comment on his profile letting us know he was not going to be active with WA but the other didn't say good by, kiss my a__ or anything. Kind a leaves you with a dead spot in your heart, even if you never really met them in the flesh. Great question. Wish I had an answer.

I don't know how you can tell if a member has left, but I can answer the second part of your question!
No, they don't receive any notifications, either for pms or profile messages. I'm in touch with a former member and we've tested this. :)

Hi Dave! -

How are you today my friend?

If someone leaves an easy way to tell is if their WA rank goes sky high! :)

I had one refferal, he went premium, he created his website within a month, and disapeared from my referral list, he still has a profile running here, when I add his name, he is still there.
I like to know too why and what.

Loes

That is worrying, I do not actively promote WA so was not aware of this.

I certainly think that those who refer members should be advised when someone leaves the program so that they can validate and check their earnings.

It can validate and check their earnings quite easily it is on their stats they don't even have to wait payday to do it they can do it on any given day by pressing on the aeroplane above and starts

Does it show the actual members profile names so that you can validate this or just numbers. Numbers only would not count as proper validation as your referral count could be static but actually represent a mix of new and ex referrals.

They are in the list, as name and status

Thanks Loes

Handy to know if I decide to promote WA in the future.
Nothing wrong with WA obviously, I just concentrate my efforts in other niches.

Hi

I was wondering if any folk here with multiple domains are channeling their affiliate links through a Link Hub.

If so what is your experience with click through r

I wouldn't want to directly it would not be made visible to Google it would be only accessed from a domain with content.

A link hub is just a means of centralising the administration of your affiliate connections. The link hub itself would just maintain a table of 301 re-directs

Content Domain = Mydomain1.com http://linkhub.com/offer 1
Content Domain = mydomain2.com http://linkhub.com/offer 1
|
Link Hub = linkhub.com/offer1 - -> affiliate.com/offer
|
Affiliate Site - affiliate.com

Then if the affiliate site changes affiliate network or you decide to promote a different companies products you just make the change on the link hub and not all your content domains.
Useful if you a promoting the same offers from multiple domains.

The full affiliate address
e.g. http://affiliate.com_aff=1234
would still be displayed in the browser of the customer so no cloaking going on.

Question: if the presenting domain may be devoid of content, how do you propose to get traffic there in the first place?

I don't think what you're describing is advised and at least a couple affiliate programs I've seen prohibit it.

Hi Dave

Thank you for your reply. It would be interesting if you could recall the programs. There is a lot of misunderstanding and it often gets confused with cloaking.

I thought I had already replied to you so I apologise if it turns up on another thread.

Dave

Looking at this again I don't think what you're describing is what I thought it was. I'm not familiar with link hubs.

Thanks for coming back to me Dave.

You might have been thinking of Link Farms which is where you build a network of sites and then create links between them to artificially generate backlinks and fake popularity.

These are a definite no-no as far as Affiliate networks are concerned as well as search engines if you get caught.
These are definitely not something I would build as I have no desire to get my sites blacklisted. Also the one reason to keep the Link hub domain free of content and therefore of no interest to the search engines as you would not be playing that game.

Cheers

Dave

Yes, it must have been Link Farms I was thinking of. You don't want to get involved with Link Farms.

Thanks for the question. I don't even know what a link hub is. Will be watching this!

Doug

I will send you a pm to explain.

Dave

Thanks for taking the time Dave.

Now you know one of the reasons why I don't host here at WA. I don't feel comfortable unless I have full control and visibility of the MySQL DB from outside of the Wordpress environment. ; )

Hi I was just wondering how long WA keep the videos in the "Live Video Classes" stored on the servers?

I have clicked on several only to be informed that they are no longe

Thanks for the heads up. I assumed they did not expire. Figured I would watch them when I had some spare time. Guess that's nit the case. This is kind of disturbing. Thanks again.

I think it's about time WA had a clean up.

I appreciate that some may be deprecated, but some subjects are evergreen and nothing more infuriating than having dead links on a website and the "replay available now" still clearly emblazoned across them.

I am not sure of the exact time frame but a lot of them are still there.

The only ones I have not been able to view have been on here 2+ years ... so maybe around this duration!

Thanks Chris I'll try review that timeframe

On a couple of occasions circa 7/8 months ago, I received two post comments to one of my website articles criticising my language & spelling.

One I put down to sheer

I think folks are pretty understanding here. Doesn't necessarily have to be perfect providing it can still be understood, no probs.

I was born in UK and I live in Australia. YES I do modify my written language for USA because UK/Australian English has different spelling. I have to remember to leave the letter 'u' out of many words such as; neighbour/neighbor colour/color etc. I find it easy to do this because on WA I get a red wriggly line under my English spelling and the same on WordPress. ~Marion

My view is write how you speak, as this is your personality,

I do think that spelling should be correct, and with a spell checker on everything, theres really no excuse here

As for grammar, we are not all perfectly literate, and if you were to write a website in the style of Shakespeare, I would think that the majority would switch off and go to the person who they can relate too.

You can't please all the people all the time, so just do what comes naturally, and you will be fine - innit!

Paul

You are sort of right Paul in that your audience has to be able to relate to you. I guess you are always going to have issues when trying to speak to a global audience.

Not too sure about your 1st comment though. I have an uncle from Aberdeen I just hope he does not create a website and writes as he speaks. I would wish google the best of luck with that one. He gives me problems after 30 years ;)

Lol, you may have a point there, but Google does have a translation tool - just not sure if it includes Scotland!

Hi - I agree with Paul.

I'm Scottish through and through - but I don't talk in any dialect slang - so I don't talk in slang either, other than the odd "Slàinte" if I know I'm talking to another Scot.

Yes American English and British English have some slightly different spellings for things like colour/color etc - but I'm certain everyone reading any of my posts online understands these subtle differences, and reads them the same no matter which spelling is used. As long as the grammar is correct, these little differences in spelling I think will not cause any real concern.

Once you have a number of visitors to your site, your analytics will tell you where they're from - and if you really want to, you can tailor your spelling to fit.

Me, I'm just going to be me.

All the best, Mark

I'm glad you brought up this subject because it's been something I've been stuck with for a while. I started out writing content using English words and spelling them the way I was taught at school, but now I write for my American readers. The only problem is I'm now forgetting the English language lol. Neil

I know, it can be difficult as this is an international group and I truly do not want to alienate anyone.

Neil how do you check your American spelling and grammar ? or is it speling I don't know!
When do they use double L's. What is the official US dictionary?

I must admit I find it much easier to refer to our language as English and that spoken across the pond as American.

Hi, Caraid. I only use an online spell checker which I presume is an American one. You can get them as part of tool bars or search Google for some. I'm not sure what the US dictionary is or all the words that are spelt differently either. It's something you will have to look up.

I ask because the comments received were pretty rude and I think the US Guru was under the impression that English was an American invention so he needed putting in his place.

I do appreciate the divergence of the English language which I do not have an issue with at all.

I had thought of writing my articles in word using a US dictionary, but I know there is a greater difference than mere spelling & grammar.

Phrasing and Usage can be different and I don't want to come across as someone who has looked like he has used Google translate.

For a global audience, I will always use British English. A language which I am very proud of.

I just don't want to alienate any US readers where they are the target for my articles. It is difficult to know how they are perceived.

Dave

Hi Caraid. It's an interesting question this one. Answer for me would have to be no!

I know that the spelling of content can sometimes identify the country of origin. In America for example, the style of writing and the slight difference in spelling gives it away. Probably the same for US looking at UK.

In Eastern Europe, they forget to use an article. For example, 'will you give me a job?' would be 'you give me job?'. Stands out a mile if you get phishing emails from banks! You know you are being scammed from Eastern Europe.

'Picking someone up' as we say in England for a spelling mistake just for the sake of it is pretty rude, let's face it. I suppose you could say they need to 'get a life'?

Best

Doug

I totally agree Doug but difficult when you want to attract all customers.

It is a difficult area to discuss because of the "politically correct police"
but in this business how your audience perceives you is all important. So it is important to understand the differences at least.

If you ever get any writing outsourced as a general rule steer clear of the Indian sub-continent unless you want to re-write it. Prepositions are not widely used.

Mmmm I know I don't want to attract ALL customers Caraid. The minority of rude ones can go elsewhere as far as I am concerned. Who needs 'em?

Now if someone were to create an idiot filter plugin for WordPress. I would pay handsomely for that ;)

Hi Caraid, So far I stick to British English and acknowledge the fact I am an Englishman living in Scotland. I think it may depend on the niche you are in but there is a lot of respect out there for us Brits and many Americans who actually know what is happening out in the world appreciate the fact that sometimes Britain is the best friend that America has.

Thank you for your input

True it does depend on Niche. One niche I am in, the US and Europe have different views on some subjects so I make use of a geo-targetting plugin to display different versions of the article to different audiences. I do this as I have witnessed highly inflammatory comments on forums, and although controversy can be good for traffic I do not wish to alienate a large number of my audience in this way.

One of my sites is for a US audience so I replace "s" with "z" in words like customise, color for colour etc.
My other site I use my own spelling.

I don't make any other changes.

Someone did recently pull me up on grammar, told me "I might like to check my grammar and spelling." I had some of my posts checked over by US and UK people and was told they were fine. When I visited the person's site the grammar and punctuation made no sense, guess not everyone agrees on this!

Thank you for your input.

Interesting

For one of my sites, I did get an outsourcer from the US to proofread and amend one of my ebook giveaways as it referenced medication which I know has different generic names so I had to get this right
