I am relinquishing my WA site to another WA member including the domain. The domain transfer I can handle at Namecheap. But how does the new user setup his WA website and transf

Have you tried contacting support? I would contact them before taking any actions, especially those I'm getting ready to list.

There are probably some gotchas as kevshrm pointed out with affiliate links but I would think this would be the steps needed in order to complete a transfer.:

1. Export your entire site to your local computer. This can be accomplished via FTP.

2. Provide exported files to whoever is taking ownership of the domain.

2. Delete the site from your WA account.

3. The new owner would then have to create the site under his own WA account. I don't think namecheap needs to be involved here because they are just telling DNS to resolve to WA. Who controls and owns the site is controlled at WA.

4. The new owner would then have to import the files to the site via FTP.

If support is unresponsive you could try these steps with a small site rubix site, but I think they'll probably get back to you with the right coarse of action.

Good luck!

I have a similar question, so any help would be appreciated. I have my current blog here on WA. It is basically, a keyword titled blog which I'd like to change. I also own a persona domain. Currently, my persona site is pointing to an affiliate website. What I'd like to do is point my persona here to WA, transfer my current blog to my persona blog, and create and point my persona's subdomain back to my affiliate page. I can transfer my persona's domain to WA once I review those procedures. But, my question is - if I have WA host my persona domain, transfer or "move" files from one blog to the new blog, can I still have my persona's subdomain point to somewhere else? I believe I can, through my registrar, but I just want input before I do this. Thank you, in advance!

I believe you can. Try asking relevant questions in the question bar at the top of your WA profile page - you should get several blogs and trainings on the subject.

I tried that, nothing exact came up. I may have to call my registrar now because I forwarded my new sub-domain to my affiliate site, but, it's not working for some reason...

I am not sure if this can be done within WA. The logical way would be to transfer hosting to Namecheap, transfer domain to the new user. He then can transfer hosting from Namecheap to WA

There's an export tool on the dashboard. Try that.

Yes in Wordpress, which may the route I have to take. There is a move function in WA but that is to a new domain. I am moving to a new user.

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but if you do use the export, the new owner will likely want to update all of the affiliate links, as those will still point to your account.

Yes, if you want the new user to have your files, I think you'll have to export them. The move function in WA is for moving domains. I think when you export it kills all linking, so the person you're giving your files to will have to re-link everything anyway. We turned a blog into a website and had to import all our files into the site. I know it can be done. I did not personally do it, but my spouse followed instructions found on the internet. Be sure all your files are backed up somewhere so you don't lose everything if you make a mistake. Good luck!

I will be concentrating my efforts in promoting my books. For this reason I will be discontinuing my work with my site

This site is still up for grabs. Anyone? Otherwise it gets shut down in 1 month.

I'll take it Jim

let me know what is decided

Hi Chris, as a expat Brit myself, and as you are a childrens author, and as I am really giving it up to focus on my books, you are very welcome to have it. Now we just need to figure out how that is done here at WA.

Thanks very much Jim i actually wish you would reconsider, but if your serious and going ahead, i will take it off your hands.

Hi Chris. I am sure. I don't have the time needed to devote to building this site. I'd rather use that time otherwise. Please note that all affiliate links will need to be replaced. The author of the existing articles can be easily changed to you, that's ok.

I'll message you with details.

Thanks Jim

jim i 'll have it please

Hi Jim I'm sorry you're not continuing, if you are really serious i ould be happy to try and carry on where you left it, if you decide to come back at some stage then it's yours. Let me know what you think?

Today I noticed some spam getting through, so I wanted to check if Akismet was working. Clicking on settings gives me a page with the following error message:

We can’t co

I did try deactivating the plugin but it didn't help. Funny is today it is working again. It must have been some temporary failure somewhere on the Net.

Mine is also OK today. Very strange

Whew! Glad it resolved itself. I know the frustration! Sometimes it really is a guessing game.

I have the same thing today

Try deactivating your plug ins one at a time. I had this issue a while back. This may clear up the problem.

Very helpful! Thank you!

Sorry. I haven't had a problem with it and I have Akismet on all my sites, WA and non-WA sites. If you don't get it sorted soon, I'd file a support ticket. Good Luck!

When I see comments and questions etc. I see only the user names. Sometimes I see people using the first name of the person making the question, but I don't see the first name anyw

Only when folks do like I do

Exactly John. I try to remember to that too ;)

Yeah, you can check the users profile and see there welcome message. But truth be told there are a lot of pwople in WA and going to all there profiles to see there first name is practically impossible. So I recommend just sticking to the usernames.

Hello Jim,

I went to your personal profile and found this:

Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate Jim!

I hope that you are enjoying your first day here within the community and have had a chance to poke around and see what we have to offer. As you get started I'd like to suggest working through the "Online Entrepreneur Certification - Getting Started (Level 1)" course as it will give you a very solid understanding of how Internet marketing works and how you can leverage the Internet to earn revenue."

That is how I know your name, in actual fact I always try to find the personal name of the person I am interacting with, it shows that you value that person enough to check it out.

Everybody likes to have that personal attention and feel special. :D

Hi Jonicas,
I've been through Levels 1 and 2 already. I just think it would be easier if the programmers displayed the first names instead of the unambiguous user names.

Hi Jim,

You, being a writer, could relate to people using a nom de plume for their postings.

I have recently changed my personal profile to show my name upfront however not everyone shares that view.

At any rate, it is a matter of personal choice and I have even seen people here preferring to be addressed by their chosen nom de plume.

Lightbulb just went on

I remember when I first joined and a few WA members welcomed me by using my first name. I double and triple checked, as I was perplexed to how they knew such personal information. I don't have my first name in my profile. I subsequently learnt that Kyle referred to me by my first name, which solved the mystery.

You can check their profiles as you did with Simon. That's how I usually do it. Like Simon said too, if the user is new then see if their's a welcome message in the comments.

Or just use the name everyone else is using. Some people become acquainted through the chatroom and they would address one another by their first names.

In my case (and yours I see), I use my name so that's not hard to find. I used to go by a username for a while but I recently changed it to my full name.

Hi Jay, the profiles do not always show the name. I do look. Scrolling down is easy for new users, but a lot of commenters have been here for a while, and although I see their name being used, I wonder how people know it.

Good question Jim. I haven't found a repository of names yet and i ask myself the same question as I also feel the same as you. I have discovered that if a person is relatively new, say a couple of weeks, if you scroll right down to the bottom of all the welcome messages you may well find that Jason or Kyle have written them a welcome message and in most cases they are addressed by their first name. Also read some of the welcome messages as some people seem to know their first name. That's the best I can do and I am now following you JIM! PS. Where is that lake behind you? Looks good.

Thanks Simon, (and I had to go to your profile to find that). That is Lake Zug, in central Switzerland where I live. The mountain behind me is Mount Pilatus, which is featured in my novel. The city at its foot is better known, Luzern.
