When I was in MLM or network marketing, there's this crowd we call "dream stealers". They will do everything to discourage you, to not pursue your dreams, and if you stop working in your business, they'd be happy to see you fail. Now that I'm in affiliate marketing, I think this fellow from Facebook is one of them. Here's his most recent message to me, a post from Perry Marshall which he forwarded to me:

If I were to do what a lot of guys do – and teach newbies that the way to make a lot of money on the Internet is by being my affiliate and selling my products – I would be committing some kind of crime.

Hey!

That's my Uncle Perry....J/K !!

I am a fan of his philosophy and I totally agree with one thing he says.

If you are reliant on free organic traffic for your business, then your "business" is not a business, it is a hobby that earns you money. Real businesses have marketing and advertsing costs.

Hi Derek,

Just a few thoughts on those comments....

From what I've read and come across online, there are a lot of "real" successful businesses that don't advertise or market. Maybe that depends on what people call marketing or advertising as well... but I'm talking about the ongoing paid adverts to bring in more new customers. The "organic traffic" businesses are successful for a number of reasons. Often they have a lot of satisfied customers who keep on coming back and sending them more customers.

Recently I was talking to a friend who is a bookkeeper for a construction company, and we were talking about doing them a website (they just don't have one!) but they were really unsure if they wanted one, due to the fact they were so busy, and had a successful system in place. They feel a little like they "should" have a website... so they're considering it. They really don't market or advertise at all. I'll check if they did when they first started up.

I'll also check with her how long they've been in business, but I know she's worked for them since I've known her (over 5 years). I'd say they're a real and successful business, not a hobby from what she shares.

I think there are a lot of ways to connect with customers, and in a way, a lot of organic traffic is "earned" not through direct payments but through the work of connecting to the audience. There have been some businesses who have grown pretty fast with just organic traffic as well.

I get the idea that the businesses growing on organic traffic have a better ability to connect with their audience as they're there on the frontline and responding to the questions and nuances in the interests of their audience.

It's all very interesting looking at the very different landscapes we're in today... but I'm starting to get the impression that advertising is the "old" way, and the new way for most businesses could be becoming more niched and more involved with customers at a smaller scale. They're the businesses I see people really enjoying. This sort of approach appears to me to be more sustainable for more people, and would lead to better quality of life for everyone. Just my thoughts as I ponder these things.

Best wishes,

Jacquie

Totally agreed,

I am a fan of the ideology put out by Perry Marshall regarding paid traffic and learning to (to use a term) move up a level.

But,

In reality, we do need a combination of both and Perry is no fool, he used organic too. The real benefit of organic traffic is it ultimately reduces advertising expenditure...and the benefit of paid..(and other sources) is it reduces a reliance on search engine traffic.

As Perry puts it "depending on organic search traffic, you are only a google update away from losing your business".

(something I can sadly confirm to be 100% true),

The same principle applies for dependency on social media traffic dependency on their algorithms and ultimately PPC - if the price goes up dramatically campaigns will no longer be profitable!..

Ultimately, a digital business thrives long term on a combination of all three. Social, Search and Paid.

Note: Organic traffic is not unique to Search Engines, some social media sites also provide organic traffic due to functioning like a search engine an dhaving no newsfeed (Reddit, Pinterest, YouTube, etc).

My namesake Perry, is certainly one that I do like to read, does seems to get it, paid and copywriting wise.

He is spot about facebook though...after all, that platform has the whole world walking about with a blue glow on their faces and bumping into lamp posts! (another of his phrases! lol).

Ultimately - there is no such thing as free traffic - a myth, it costs us what Jay calls sweat equity.

Your time in writing a blog post, making a YT Video, a podcast, Designing a Pin or writing and responding to social media posts has value, it is worth something.

I estimate my own effort thus far over the past 14 months working for literally free has cost me upwards of US$40,000 (without spending that amount).

Hi Gomer! Although he has annoyed you, we can pick some insight into his words. 1. avoid him indeed. 2. check it out content is king 3. great choice of niche push up a lot of traffic. 4. seize the day. - more focus on our business. Congratulation on being successful in your own right. Sige lang. Florentino

Oh, I like that. You know some Filipino language huh? Great! :)

Yes. Sige lang. :)

The only Perry Marshall I know is a well known author who writes books about IM-Internet Marketing. The 80/20 Sales and Marketing. The Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords (2016), Thats outdated. He has his own website under his name you can Google him. He does sell a lot of marketing products mainly for Social Media like Facebook Ads, Google ads. He is also on YouTube Evolution something. I read his 80/20 Sales and Marketing. The effort you should be putting in your business is advertising. The more you invest into advertising , more exponential growth. That book helped me when I was in the mortgage/ real estate business before the subprime lending went bust in the US.

I have a friend confessed to me that his privilege to write blog posts in our online business community here has been revoked by the WA admins. The probable reason for revocati

Marion has a good answer Gomer

He needs to let Kyle or Carson (one or the other, not both) know that he realizes his mistake and won't ever do it again. That usually works. But repeated infringements can result in a permanent ban. As he can't send a private message he could leave a message on Kyle's profile page or he could use the form at https://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/contact
which would be more private.

This question has been asked elsewhere and the advice is to PM Kyle and ask for a reprieve🧐

Maybe related or similar to older questions but not exactly the same as the question I asked.

Thanks. I will tell this friend he need to send Kyle a private message.

👍🏼🧐

Problem there is that the person whose write access has been revoked cannot send private messages.

Okay. Thanks for that, Mommy Marion. Maybe what he can do is, use the form at https://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/contact

I work for the Awin.com and ShareASale.com affiliate networks. We're just fine with affiliates using Pretty Links. It's a great way to manage your links, and it works just fine with our systems. I believe all of the major networks have no problems with Pretty Links, though I'm not sure that all of the smaller networks or in-house programs are compatible.

FYI, don't use it on Pinterest. Pinterest does not like shortened links of any kind.

Thanks for the caution on Pinterest. Okay, noted.

Not all affiliate companies allow link shortening

1) It depends upon the affiliate program. Amazon doesn't allow link cloaking and others might not as well.

2) You shouldn't be hiding affiliate links from readers. Making links pretty is one thing, so they are shorter. But hiding them is against FTC rules. You have to disclose on every blog post, video, social media post, or email newsletter that you are using affiliate links. The FTC wants all affiliate and partners to be transparent to the readers. Cloaking the link in an attempt to deceive readers is against most affiliate programs.

3) Most people don't even know what an affiliate link vs a non-affiliate link looks like unless they are affiliates themselves. They also aren't jealous of what affiliates make and refuse to use them. Most people don't put that much thought into it. If I don't like the merchant I'm taken to with a link, I will always search Amazon or Chewy for that brand. Heck, unless they're affiliates they might not know what an affiliate link is at all, let alone what it looks like. People don't put that much effort into it. They want convenience, cheap, fast delivery, reliable vendors. They don't care at all about affiliate links.

4) They WILL care if they feel lied to though, which ruins trust. If your readers don't trust you, they won't use your links. Part of affiliate marketing is building trust with your audience.

5) I don't cloak any of my links, except if I'm using one on social media because affiliate links are ugly. But on my website, I don't bother because it doesn't matter how ugly it is, it's not fully visible unless clicked on.

It is empowering to have contrasting viewpoints as I got a different one from ChrystopherJ. Anyway, thanks. I will consider both.

I use it for years without problems.

I use it and Kyle shows how to use it in the training.
Jerry

I mean, even if the affiliate link gets omitted, you still get credits for the sales generated?

Does anyone know here of a digital product sold in Clickbank that compliments our program here in Wealthy Affiliate? Something that's not scammy or getting a lot of refunds. Pr

I see you got some answers. All the best.

Gomer there are stacks and I have them on my website

Thanks, my friend. I will be heading to your website to check.

They are in the left hand footer area as I'm in the process of changing my theme...

Here's a Training by Veronica1 that might be helpful for you. Veronica seems very knowledgeable and experienced with Clickbank so if you PM her she may be able to recommend some of their programs for you to promote.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help by answering your question directly but hopefully I've at least pointed you in the right direction to someone who may be able to.
Cheers
Rich :-)

I like their mode of payment to affiliates, Clickbank pays weekly for bank transfer or "every other week" for checks, I'm interested in promoting and making money with them but can't seem to find a good program there that's not tarnished or full of complaints. Like for example, I found Patrick Chan's programs attractive but a Google search has revealed dozens of reviews (some are from WA members) saying Patrick Chan's programs are bad.

Does anyone here know or can suggest a program in Clickbank that's good to promote and complimenting ours here?

Good luck I hope you find one and if you do let us know. I feel the same way about Clickbank although I've made money with them in the past. You can PM me if you find anything.
All the best,
Don

So, it seems there are only two of us here who are interested.

With almost every country in the world implementing lockdowns because of COVID-19, I find the need to promote "purely digital products" as ecommerce involving the shipment of physical products like Amazon, temporarily problematic, with authorities limiting the number of couriers roaming around to just those who are delivering basic goods like food.
