I'm getting comments that I'm not allowed to have any links in blog posts. To clarify is that affiliate links and links to my website? A blog post is for strictly info purposes?
Didn't know you were talking about WA blog posts!! Thought you were asking about your OWN website.
So now I am also confused. I guess you are asking about blogs here at WA, in this case Loes has answered properly. But the last sentence in your text looks like related to your site, if so you are free to make any links you find suitable. Jovo
Actually I was asking about both. If its ok to have a link to a diff page in your site AND if its ok to have an affiliate or product related link IF that's what the post was about. Its much more clear to me now thank you very much. :)
I have no official word, but My understanding is that if it is a resource that will help someone, and is completely FREE you may get away with it. Even these links I send by pm at someones request.
Hi. You cannot promote any other links in WA, but as Loes rightly says below you can link to your website. If you want to promote a product or affiliate product, then you should promote them in your website where you may add blog posts. I guess it's just a way for people to not be spammed within WA which I think is a good policy to have!
Ow blimey, the witch hunt is getting of. I am speaking for myself now. I am not on the payrol of WA, nor do I have an official role to speak for WA.
My opinion:
The links you cannot use are those of other affiliate programs, links to promote products to gain custumers, links in which you ask somebody to join some org. etc.
You can place links to your website, to give people further info to the blog you wrote though, or to articles where you have your information from. All links which are helpful to others for building their websites.
You also can share links for joy and entertainment:)
Spam is un - asked link sharing for your own gain.
Hope that makes it a bit clear:)
I am speaking about the links you can share here on WA, on your website you can share any link you want.
Yes thank you again. It's ok to provide a link to the 'products review' page for instance?
Laura is correct. Your question has me scratching my head...because most, if not all the posts we put on our sites, usually contains a product link of some kind. So again, where are these comments originating from?
Well actually from WA readers of my blog posts. Quite a few have sent me comments saying 'Im breaking rules, no affiliate links, no links to my site. Whew! Glad I checked as I was about to go through all my blog posts and pull out all the links. lol Thank you much rbwnys!
My understanding is that "external links" - which lead to more information on the subject at hand, from a trusted source, are fine. In fact, my Yoast SEO check advises me to include a few in each post and each page content.
What is frowned upon by Google is lots of external links that lead to affiliate recruiting sites and/or promotion/sales of your wares. You can include one of those, but 2 or more is a no-no.
What Kyle suggest in his training is to use "internal links" in your posts that take the reader to a page on your site that has the offers of affiliate sign-ups and/or promotion/sales of your wares.
That way the vast majority of your pages and posts are in good compliance, and the one recruiting/sales page is balanced well with the overall useful and helpful info on your site.
That's my take, and how I do it - any others care to chime in?
It has been suggested that we have good internal links and a few external ones such as wikipedia for trusted information
Hi! Where are you getting the comments from, because blog posts are often FULL of links to all kinds of things. Like this blog post http://trackmaven.com/blog/2014/01/10-elements-of-the-best-performing-blog-posts/ - it's full of links to examples, other blogs, datasheets, etc etc. Providing the links are clear and the page isn't cluttered with them, then go for it I say! x

Are blog posts supposed to be free of all links?

I think you have been advised wrongly... no links in ARTICLES especially ones you submit to article submissions; but you can have a link in your SigFile (the bottom few lines after your signature.) After all, people write articles to have hundreds of people read them, of course you want them to look at your program. Now blogs are a whole lot different and why I moved from article writing to blogging. Internal links in blogs are a plus. :-)
Oh I hadn't even thought about article links but very glad you brought that up before I write my first article that is great to know. Thanks so much pisces!

I messed up! Accidentally published my post a page, tried to trash it and redo as post but it won't work. How can I correct this? Thanks in advance:)
A lot of good information, I can't think of anything to add. Let me know how it turns out.
Thank you Deos I'm back on track now thanks to all of you smart, helpful folks. I love this place, couldn't do all this on my own that's for sure! lol
777 has you covered. Just change the status of the Page to Draft. Then you can cut and paste any or all of the content from the Draft page to the new Blog Post. That's pretty much it. Although if Google has already indexed the page, you may need to remove the Page URL. I have never done it, but it is my understanding that you can use Webmaster tools to remove the URL. You might type Webmaster tools in the Search box above to find out how to use it.
Hi Larry thank you for your input. How quickly does google index a page, do you know? Is it immediate? thank you again.
I'm afraid I don't know how long it takes Google to index. From what I have read others say, it takes several days. I really don't think it is immediately.
Copy and paste the work you wish to move to word. Then the work that is left behind. Think about it is there any way u can ad content to it to motivate it to fit where it is change the content a bit and the direction a bit. So it is still a candy but it is not a Christmas candy it is an Easter bunny candy. That way you get two for one.
Then the one you copied and pasted to word. Re read it spiff it up a bit put some blush and mascara on it and a little eye shadow add an extra dimension to it so it doesn't look like you are just doing random copy pasting and whala you have a new blog you can put where you originally wanted.
Ahhhhh that's a great idea. I'm afraid of my posts/content becoming monotonous but that is a great suggestion being that I'm still in the beginning. Thank you JJordie! God bless!
Hi. You still have the page? Always double check the Text html see which area to keep or which to set aside from. Copy and paste to notepad or anywhere to save your precious works and documents
Hi GP thank you for advice. Also to save/backup my site do I do that with each page? Save each page to word? I very much apprec your input and help. Thank you.
Hey Angela you can unpublish a page or post by selecting draft. You don't have to delete it.
Here's the steps on how to convert your post or page:
1. Go to you plugins page on your website dashboard and search for ptypeconverter.
2. Install the plugin and activate.
3. Go to Tools then click on pTypeConverter.
4. Go to the Convert tab and filter your list by Post or Page whichever content type you want to convert.
5. Tick the posts or pages you want to convert then select the type of content you want it converted to and hit on the Convert! button.
Oh wow sounds very complicated but will keep these instructions handy as I'm sure i will inadvertently do again at some point. Sounds like you really know computers. Awesome thanks much ferdie!
Leoemery would probably know this as I am sure he has answered others asking this. I think he gave an answer when Indiem asked this.
There are two good answers to a similar question here at WA:
Click on "Pages", find the page you want to delete and move the mouse pointer over the title. This will bring up a control menu which will have Trash on it.
go to your site dashboard , select the page you want to delete. and you will see options to edit save or delete just select delete and your done
Copy the text onto your clipboard and then delete the page which was created and click >Pages >All Pages navigate to the page you want to delete and select Trash and it will delete. Then Add New Post and paste your text and click Publish. I hope that helps.
Hi stephhill thats exactly what I did thank you sooo much. Yes it worked. Whew! lol thanks again and God bless!
Yea I finally got it right. I'm always afraid that I'm going to do something wrong and wipe everything out! Seems like its not as fragile as i think. Can't wait til I get better with all the tech stuff. lol Have a great day!
Hi Angela: Don't worry about the technical stuff. It will come to you. And yes, it is not that fragile. Have an awesome week. Keep us posted. You are doing fabulous.
