Core “Business Start Up” Training

Hello everybody

I am trying to set up a online store and follows Jay's training as good as possible (https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/mastering-woocommerce/play/

Update: I made it work with the following steps:

1. Update to PayPal Business
2. In the WordPress admin area go to woocommerce > settings > payment: check PayPal AND PayPal Checkout
3. Put in your API Credentials (copy from your PayPal account to your WordPress admin area)

Thank you RJ for your help!

Hope this will help to those who encounter the same issue.

A good answer from Fran below

I ran into some problems, too, when setting up my PayPal account to sell my book on my website. I finally called them, and they were able to walk me through the process. Perhaps you should call.

Good to know im not the only one!
Thank you very much, seems like i need to do that.
Do you know what the API is for?
Regards,
Tina

Not sure...I know that I was not qualified to accept credit cards because they did not have a residence address. I found the one place where there was such a thing, as we don't use residence addresses; just p.o. box numbers. There was a residence address on one of my utility bills, so they accepted that. They were very helpful, because I didn't know what to do about freight. They helped me work up a chart of freight costs to a number of different spots.

Wow they offer a lot of help! Yes freight is a next thing...
Thanks alot!

I'm not entirely sure of this but I think you may need to use "PayPal checkout" for direct purchases using cards on the PayPal platform as opposed a payment being made via a specific PayPal account. .

Thank you for your help!
Yes that would be the bigger version and the next step if nothing else should work.
But the normal checkout should work as well for credit card payments as far as i researched and based on what was shown in Jay's training. But knowing he has all his accounts set up already in the background leaves me in the dark...

Hey Tina,

Another member who added PayPal to her website also had issues and when that member contacted PayPal's support team they were very helpful and walked her through even testing that the final form worked properly.

Having never had a need to add this form, if I were having issues like what you describe here, I would definitely be reaching out to PayPal support staff simply because what the experience that one member shared with me.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you very much!

That is a good idea and i have to admit i was not thinking of it....
However I want to make sure its not a easy setting issue that i can adjust. Especially because I do not know what this API is all about.

But I will reach out to PayPal if i cannot find anything.

Thank you very much for your help!
Regards,
Tina

Making a habit to go to the "horse's mouth" for the information you seek will help you circumvent any potential errors.

In other words, for WA issues, seek WA support, for Amazon issues, seek Amazon support, for PayPal issues, seek PayPal support and then you are less likely to become frustrated and suffer further delay tinkering with what "might work".

However, I do NOT wish to discourage you from speaking with other members either.

Yes you are right about that. I am just always thinking I am making a simple error and the people with the massive experience here at WA have the answer.

But yes i need to get braver in going quicker to the original platforms before i got stuck to deep...

Thanks!

Keyword, Niche and Market Research

This is probably the strangest question - considering that we are on one of the biggest affiliate platform…

However I am facing severe issues finding a way to

Full disclosure, I'm with Awin.com; we are the largest affiliate network in the world, and we have programs available in Switzerland. While I didn't find any programs specifically for pets in your country, I did find several "department store" programs which sell a huge variety of products. I believe that some of those would work for you. If you want to message me, I can send you a link to join the network.

Hi Jeannine
Thank you so much for giving me this advise! I never looked into awin.com but will do now!
I have chosen to write about a few brands that i really love in my niche. As they are not so well known yet in pet stores, I was wondering now if I really should join amazon - as they do have it on amazon Germany. Do you think that this is a bit of a waste of time as their condition aren't the most promising ones…. or can it still make sense here?

I'm not sure if Amazon has the same rules in Europe as they do in the US, such as 3 sales within the first 6 months. Also review what their terms are about selling into different countries. It's a whole different situation than it is in the US, but I know Amazon is difficult to work with in Australia, so make sure before you spend time on them.

Thank you Jeannine! I will have a closer look and do some research about the options you have named. I still have some time as my traffic is not enough yaet....
Thank you and have a great week!

Have you checked with some of the "umbrella" companies like ShareASale or Commission Junction (CJ) to see if their merchants carry any of the items you need? At least by checking with them, you can look at several merchants at once.

Thank you for your suggestion! I would like to work with an umbrella company, but shippment from america to europe can be quite a hassle (shipment fee plus import taxes). With some companies it works fine but I preffer to find a more convenient solotion for my readers....

These companies also represent businesses in other countries on their sites. For example, I know there are some businesses from the UK there, because they sold items that would fit my niche. It might be worth a check.

Ah yes that is good to know. I will have a closer look into these companies again. Thank you!

Tina have you ever tried dog dot com?

They have a selection of safe toys for dogs.

https://tinyurl.com/petsafe4dogs

They also say - dog dot com is happy to accept orders from friends around the globe. We have partnered with Bongo International to service our international customers.

Hope this helps a wee bit.
Enjoy your Monday.
Robert

Hi Robert
Thank you for this suggestion! I didn't know his supplier indeed.
I will do some research about these brands and products.

Thanks again!
Have a great day too,
Tina

Plenty to hold your interest via the link I gave you so you should be able to work something out with them.
Robert

Thank you Robert!

No probs and happy to help if and when I can and if that's so this time then job done.
Robert

Hi Tina,

Here are my thoughts. As you said you have to have traffic in order to make any money with the site. So I have to ask some questions.

When you do your keyword research before creating your content are you finding keywords that have traffic of 30+ and Competition of Less than 100? If you are finding such keywords then you will get traffic as your content ranks better.

Do the small shops that carry these toys buy direct from the manufacturer? If so, do they have the ability to ship quickly? Do you trust them to pay you?

I'm skeptical and feel uneasy about recommending that you go that route.

Instead I would tell you to look to advertising on your site in order to monetize it. You could add Google Adsense or another Advertising Platform to make some money from your traffic.

I just wrote an article about choosing your niche yesterday. When building your next site you may want to follow some of my suggestions there.

I wish you much success!

- Glen B

Hi Glen
Thank you so much for this answer.
Well the keyword research is a bit tricky for me as im researching in German, and jaazy only works in English - so at least so i was taught.

Yes the small shops order from the manufacturer and have a classical storage - then ship it to their customer. The delivery is quick (I ordered and tested all my products myself), but i also feel this is the wrong way to go….

About advertising. I first didn't wanted to do that as it makes me feel like i am downgrading my site. As for now I am open to do so. BUT i need a certain amount of traffic to get approved, right?

I just had a look at your article. I obviously stumbled upon the 3rd point, as the second I can improve by widening the topic a bit…

Thanks you again Glen, I need to go back to the drawing board!

Kind regards,
Tina

You're Welcome Tina,

Don't throw away your site since you have a passion for it. Just continue to post and drive traffic.

Start a second site.

Advertising won't degrade your site. There have been tests run and even proven that after advertising the changes to traffic and interaction didn't have much effect.

Wait till the traffic starts to come in before adding the ads though.

- Glen B

Like you could have read my mind- i was just preparing lunch trying to accept the fact that i totally failed and my freedom will remain a dream - haha.

Yes I will keep my site and expand it with knowledge about dog training.
And I also believe ads will be the way to go - if there will be traffic one day… I hope so otherwise my content will never improve any dogs life...

This is a good plan for me now - at least I know where to continue - before i find the strength for a second site.

Thanks again Glen, you really offered me valuable points and solutions!

Kind regards,
Tina

Hi Everybody

I want to install Google Analytics on one of my sites but stumble upon the question how and if to adjust my privacy policy.

I used the template privacy

Hey Tina,

If you have no Google Adwords, no Amazon ads, no affiliate links of any sort then, yes, a basic privacy policy would be acceptable.

By Google searching "no ads, no affiliate links, is basic privacy policy okay for GDPR" (without the quotation marks, of course) you should see several very helpful posts offering suggestions... and even one lawyer's site that offers great advice.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Trish

Yes i dont have any of this. All i want to ad is the google analytics now.

Thanks for your help and answer!

Pay Per Click Marketing

Dear WA Members

I reached to the point where i should sign up for Google Adsense to increase the chance of making some money with my site.

First my site is not read

Featured Comment

Google AdSense is definitely not a must, and if you're not feeling ready for it, I don't recommend that you created an account at this point.

Google actually disapproved an application if your site is not ready or doesn't have adequate content on it, so there is no worry holding off here.

Not an issue at all, and Adsense has the tendency to pay pennies on the dollar whereas affiliate programs will tend to pay much more and there is a lot more opportunity you can leverage promoting affiliate programs.

Hello Kyle -What an honour!

Thank you so much for this valuable reply - so i will skip this step without feeling guilty.

And my site can stay clean ;)

Thank you again Kyle! By the way I love the new layout here at WA!

Keep it positive,
Tina

I do wonder why it is still part of the course material, Kyle? I mean, it is not advised to most here at WA and I believe even that Jay is against them.

Affiliate marketing isn't really about Google Adsense, yet it is the first thing to come across from a money viewpoint in the course material.

I naturally skipped over it as I don't like the looks of ads on my site.

Steven

Dear Steven
Thank you for taking part in this discussion.
Yes it seems there are a lot of people who don't want to take action when it comes to ads on a fairly new site.
But its good to know the options but also good to know its not a must...
Have a great week,
Tina

I am the same way honestly, I despise ad’s , flashing lights, pop up promps, and auto start video ad’s when I am on a site so I won’t have them myself.

Dear Christina
Yes, right? They are also so disturbing to me....
Thanks for sharing, im glad to hear this!
Kind regards,
Tina

Me I am like that to, but to have a few is not bad, with google adsense you pick where you want to put them, and also by you being able to say what your site refers to they try to pick relevant content.
You can choose to just start off with a small ad on your side bar using a widget to place it or even in a footer at the bottom, as not to take up the space within your content.
Hope this helped VickiG

Hi Vicki
Thank you for your input - glad to hear im not the only one thinking this way ;)
so is this really true that they pick relevant content? I was kind of wondering how well this really works...

Yes maybe I will try to put a small one somewhere in a corner in the future.

Thanks again Vicki, have a great week!

Google adsense or any ads for that matter is optional. What is taught here about adsense is just one way to monetize your site but there are other ways of making money with it. In fact, once you see a decent traffic flow into your site, it is advisable to have ads that pay you better than adsense.

So, in short, it is optional.

:)
Joe

Hi Joe
Ah that is also a good input with the not adsense ads.
Ok thank you, yes I will not put any adsense on at this time, it just doesn't feel right.

Thanks for your reassurance and your valuable reply!

Kind regards,
Tina

Hi Tina,

No, you don't have to add Google Adsense to your site. You can just do it if you want to try to have another income stream.

You also have full control where the ads are placed, so you can make it as nice as you want.

The ad units these days don't look as tacky and the ones that go into your content are very nice and blends into your content sometimes.

If your site doesn't have 25 posts or more, I'd hold off until you do or else you may be rejected.

Hope this helps,
Grace

Hi Grace
Thank you so much for this information!
I dont have 25 posts yet indeed - so its a no at the time anyway.

And good to know it can be placed neat! I often thinks it makes the site look kind of cheap when they appear too loud...

Thanks again for your inputs and knowledge!

Have a good week,
Tina

Can anybody please give me a helping hand with setting up the site icon?

I just build a new site and tried to set up an site icon on madproductionja.com with the theme Ro

I can see your site icon...

Thank you! Wow this is cool.
On my browser it doesn't show, but this is great that it shows here.
Thank you

What Icon are you refering to and where should it appear? I guess you are refering to a favicon.

Hi Peter
Yes exactly the Favicon. Thanks for your training!
I tried all these steps but it just wont appear....
Thanks anyway! I keep trying ;)

Might be a silly thing but are you pressing publish/save? Since it does show up at your preview.

Yes I did :-D Trying from last night.
Its such an easy thing to do, cant believe its not working for me.

Maybe I will try with a completely different Image.

Thank you Peter!

Wow! I just tried with a different browser (chrome instead of internet explorer) and its there!

I am so sorry for wasting your time! But your training is very helpful!
