Posting affiliate links on Instagram, Pinterest, and other sites won’t get you anywhere if all you're doing is posting an affiliate link. I don’t mean to be harsh, but I’m a no

I'm using Instagram Pocket Rocket.. awesome and easy method to grow Instagram account and earn from it. I'm using it about 10 days, earned good so far (about $500).

Your advice is comforting because developing the three social networks I have and learning each part of web development and compelling traffic to find me continues to be my focus. As I learn I know the money will come in because my visitors want to be on my site. When they find something they want to buy it is a plus but is not my focus.

Thank you for this discussion, pribs. Have learned much from you. ^_~

No problem, Caylynn! I'm very glad that I could help, and happy to know that you're right on track :)

Thanks for this Ian! I am going to link this in a new post I am working on at my new blog. It's great to see your content here on WA.

I have be putting a ton of hours in this past week and am looking forward to it paying off in the future.

PS: made my first sale today :D

Awesome, awesome, AWESOME Jaron! That's great to hear. Keep up the great work and let me know if I can help with anything :)

Yes!! As a newbie back in the day, I was sold on the idea of making easy money by just putting up a few links here and there. Well, that idea failed. :( But you know what? I'm having a tremendous amount of fun going through the training, learning the real methods of creating a good website. Those of you who are new...enjoy the process. Don't rush it.

That's great to hear, Christina! Confession time (so everyone here knows this can happen to anyone) - I was actually banned from Google Adwords from following those crappy training courses about ten years ago when I was just getting started. I ran an ad for a day, maybe $3-$5 worth of clicks, didn't see any results, and stopped the campaign. Then I focused on and started to see a lot of success with organic search and stayed away from PPC for a while. That was all about 10 years ago.

Just about a year ago, Google contacted me and informed me that the ad I ran way back when I was 16 years old flagged my account for suspension - hooray! That's where those scammy shortcuts land us.

Luckily there are still plenty of places to buy ads, and PPC has never been the foundation of my business so I'm still trucking along nicely. I'm glad to see you are too! Thanks for reading and commenting.

I was never officially banned from Google, but I was sternly warned a time or two. I had those terrible pages up too, partly from bad advice and partly from being in the wrong niche for me and not being able to make good content. You live and learn!

Yes, you absolutely do!

Hey buddy thanks! You always tell the truth and straight to the point. :)

Thanks for always following along Cena. I love watching your website and business grow, and am glad that I was able to contribute to that.

Very well said and true to the bone.

Thanks Tommy! Glad you agree - it's certainly been the case for my business over the past few years.

Thanks for this post and I couldn't agree with you more. We all need to understand that in order to be successful we must work at this and work in the areas you mentioned. Most people will get frustrated before they give it time.

I would like to encourage all to work at whatever you are doing following the points highlighted above and be persistent and with time, we will all see benefits of your hard work and most importantly SUCCESS!

Thanks for the backup Eddie! People in this industry need to understand that it's not as simple as a lot of the programs out there make it sound. BUT - with hard work and consistency it's very achievable!

Nice. You will also (if you just post your link your affiliate link all willy-nilly) lose a lot of money. Maybe not right away but they want it later when you need upgrade...

So glad am finding your training through your discussions and at the same time reaffirming my goals. Agree loyalty is earned with each post written to give what people need and value in their lives. You're just digging up all of my training! :)

You are the man Ian, great post.

Thanks Mike, just trying to keep spreading the good news ;) It's great to see that you're still here, active, and moving right along!

Very interesting - thanks

Happy to help, Hudson!

Yeah I agree I wouldn't want to promote a crappy product either it is a little difficult finding good products out there so I guess that is where the research comes in

If a niche is completely filled with crappy products, that's a great opportunity to build up a following and create your own to fill the need for help that nobody else is filling too :) Opportunity is everywhere in this industry, and the more you learn and the further you get along, the more you can begin to see that. I still have my eyes opened to new opportunities every few months, and I've been doing this for ten years now.

Thanks for reading and commenting, Paulette!

Than you. Didn't think of it like that but I find that I am starting to

Thanks for your blog. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "Don’t break that trust by pushing crappy products or affiliate offers . . .".
I was on an email list from a guy who wrote really nice emails and seemed the real thing, I bought a product through his affiliate link which ended up being awful. I emailed him about it and got a lovely reply, but he still kept promoting awful products. He's off my Christmas list now . . . :)

"Thanks for your blog" - Thanks for knowing who I am! Haha, in all seriousness though, it's a line that far too many people in this industry don't understand they shouldn't cross. They shotgun their lists with poor offers and wonder why they have such a high unsubscribe rate or such low conversions. Relevance is the key to conversions, and crappy products aren't relevant to anyone. As you experienced - if you burn your list members one time you can lose them for life. This also includes promising a "bonus" for buying a product through your affiliate link and then under delivering massively on that bonus - people just don't forgive you once you've broken their trust! If you develop high quality, helpful, relevant content across all efforts for your website you will have followers for years to come and be able to worry about attrition much, much less.

Wise advice.
Re. "the line . . . they shouldn't cross": the ones who don't understand I can sort of get over (but obviously it doesn't make it right;) it's the ones who know exactly what they're doing that tick me off Ian. . .
I remember reading once that products priced below a certain point are rarely returned. It's these underhand tricks that exploit people. As you mentioned, it's hard to forgive when trust has been broken. OK, rant over!

I review these products week in and week out, so I know exactly what you're saying! I hate what this industry has become (and continues becoming), but thankfully everyone here has found a safe place in Wealthy Affiliate :) Thanks for reading and commenting!

Man, I wish I'd found your website years ago!!

I was recently asked this by a follower that's trying to get started in affiliate marketing, and it's a topic that most people don't understand very well coming into this indust

In my offline world, creating lasting friendships are built over time in making memories of being together and communicating what is going on in our lives. The online world is no different. In both worlds my email address book is growing, group by group. Agree, one focus is building the traffic and creating the bond before marketing offers to provide additional help.
Gosh Ian, I agree with Randy. Seems you have done your work double well here. Am amazed everyday of how much I don't know is available here in the WA. ^_~

Great lessons in every nook and cranny here for sure :) I'm very happy to be in a position to help.

Wow... just checked it out... excellent training, Ian!!!

Thanks Randy! Happy to help!

Thank you for the information. I am still trying to get traffic to my sight. I wish you the best.

Focus on quality content, quality content, quality content and consistency above all else. That will help you get traffic over time.

Thank you so much!
I've been wondering about this topic...

Happy to help, Stephanie :)

I started studying internet marketing in my spare time when I was 16 and began making money when I was 19. I'm now 25 and running a successful IM business, but what finally push

Not having to work for a boss and have a decent income to live without having to turn every penny twice is my reason that i want to succeed online.

I want the ability to make a living online. I would like the opportunity to show and share my success with others.

That's great! If you're considering getting serious about internet/affiliate marketing, I would recommend starting a companion website along with whatever niche site you build out (based on what you've said here about wanting to show and share your success with others). Document the journey you make from the very beginning through success. Sites like that are very helpful, very inspiring, and if you put a lot of time and effort into your sites, very profitable.

I want to emphasize though - DON'T create a website that's all about "making money online" and promote 1-3 training products. Just worry about documenting the journey as you build out your niche website(s). Talk about what you're learning, what obstacles you encounter, how you're growing, etc... If it does well over time, you can worry about making money with it then. But focus on your content above all else, particularly in the early stages.

Best of luck to you and I hope this gives you some ideas!

I got a decent job but working overseas to be able to provide a good life for my family. My children are growing fast and I'm not there with them to enjoy the moments. I want to be financially free so I can be with them and my wife. Miss them a lot!

That's an awesome reason, Zdad! I wish you the best of luck and am confident that, if you're willing to put in the work and time necessary, Wealthy Affiliate will teach you the skills necessary to achieve that goal.

I love helping people but want to reach many people faster

I have a toddler, and quite frankly day care is too darn expensive! It actually costs more if I were to "go to work" then stay at home with him. Not to mention I love the opportunity to be a stay at home mother and hands on with him. Unfortunately we are financially limited. We are living month to month and our "days out" consist of a once weekly trip to our local shopping plaza to do the grocery shopping. I've struggled to just get by my whole life and I never experienced things like theme parks and vacations as a child and I want to be able to give that to my son.

What a noble and extraordinary answer. Thanks for sharing BFisher90 :)

I'm in the exact situation. I stay home because if I were to go back to work I would bring home about $50 every two weeks. Its because of child care and health insurance and gas money....the list goes on as you know. So how are you doing on your internet marketing? How long have you been doing this?

Personally I have started and operated a number of successful businesses. I just tell everyone I had to be an entrepreneur because I don't deal with authority figures well.

Seriously, I look at the way many businesses operate and figure if those idiots can make money in spite of themselves, surely I could do the same.

I was right. I do like being in charge of my own destiny and not to have to rely on the good nature of whomever controls my job.

I agree - there's a lot to be said about being 100% in control. And I know EXACTLY what you're talking about concerning the leaders of some companies too. It's incredible how incompetent some executives and business owners are. Thanks for chiming in!

I really dreamt of having the same freedom like you do. I don't really have any background about internet marketing. But I'm really interested to learn. Any help from anyone will surely be of big help for me to continue my journey.

I' m already self employed, I own a consulting business. I 'm the only employee and also the owner. I like it that way, it really fouls me up when an employee calls in sick(lol). What drives me in internet marketing. Is the chance to empower those around me and myself. Hey, where else can you buy a store front for $10.00.

What a great contribution to this conversation! Thanks Dave, and best of luck to you in your internet marketing journey!

Yes, yes, YES! It's all those thing you talked about that drive me as well! If I want to take a day off, I want to be able to do that without having to answer to anyone! If one of my animals dies, I want to have the time to get over that, without feeling the pressure to get back to work (or worse, trying to work through it at work, which is the absolute WORST!!!!) And I want to be able to travel, AND work from wherever I am!

Well said! You and I are on the same page!

It sounds like we very much are :) They've worked very well for me as motivation these past few years, so I hope they work just as well for you! Thank you for sharing!

My number one reason is so that I can retire comfortably. Maybe help out a few others along the way and to leave the cooperate enviorment.

Driving me to succeed is the knowledge that I can be in the driver's seat. I will answer to myself - on my terms; not to some other employer...

I know that one day, G-d willing, I would like to have a family and be able to be home with the children and not have to worry about money. As well, I do not want my children to grow up with the stress that is palpable in the home when money is tight and creates emotional worry.

For now, I love traveling and I do that as much as I can with the income I make working as an entrepreneur. :)

It sounds like we have very similar things driving us, Stephanie! Thank you very much for sharing :)
