WordPress 5.0 marks the release of the new Gutenberg editor as part of WordPress core.

Very soon, Gutenberg will become part of WordPress core. It's a new editor experience which will make creating your posts and pages much easier than before. It includes drag-and-drop functionality to help you design your page just the way you want it to look. For now, the new editor is available as the Gutenberg plugin.

Of course, for those who are resistant to improvements and don't want to keep up with the times, the Classic Editor plugin will provide an alternative.

For those needing a translation from Geek Speak to English:

October 30, 2018:
No more design changes but there maybe some room for a little tweaking of the code.

November 12, 2018:
No more tweaking, just bug fixes.

November 18, 2018:
Developers will try it out with no more code changes permitted.

November 19, 2018:
No translation needed. It's the target date for the final release. Any bugs found after that will be fixed in WordPress 5.0.1. Any new features will be released in WordPress 5.1.0.

Thank you so much that is awesome news and thanks for the trainings. I was just looking at the Reviews in the Gutenberg plugin section and most of the were horrid. People did not like it because they say they could not post on their site.

But I don't know why they are using it when they can just take the plug in out if they wanted at this point. Could be some astroturf just causing trouble for no good reason.

We will see!

I've been following the reviews and complaints and it seems that most of the problems are not with the Gutenberg plugin but with things like flushing the cache, installing SSL certificates and old plugins and themes that haven't been updated in living memory.

My one complaint that I made turned out to be theme related, not Gutenberg. And my theme developers are right on the ball but they just missed one little thing.

Awesome! I take your word for it :)

Thanks Marion for keeping us up to date on this. I've been putting off the training on this...I guess it's time to visit your trainings.
Debbie

I would think those who are more comfortable of using the drag n drop plugins like Elementor, Beaver etc would stick to those plugins as they offer more features for more customization. I think it's great that users are still given alternatives and not forced to use Gutenberg.
Thanks for sharing the important update Marion.

⭐️ Hi Marion! ... geez--more to learn and sure glad you're on top of this new editor ... thanks kindly for the update ... all the best, cheerio ... 😊

Thanks for sharing, Marion.

Thanks for the update Marion! At this time, do you know if Elementor with OceanWP will still work under Gutenberg?

Thanks again,
Martin

It should continue to work

Oh my, Marion, I will be studying your site for some time to come. I was about to look in Divi, should I hold off? Let me know. And if you haven't been thanked, A huge thank you from me. I have a few things to complete, and then I will be back to start studying.
You have done a fantastic amount of work, To help us, the community out. Thanks
Sandy👍

I would hold off on Divi. You may not need the extra expense after you get Gutenberg.

Marion, you are magnificent. Thank you again.
You have done a real service for the community
Sandy

Thanks Marion! Looks like I don't have anything to worry about for a while and don't need to lose any sleep over it. Good to see that Elementor is also working on improvements preparing for Gutenberg.

Thanks for the update, Marion.

I'll be doing your training, Marion. Thanks.
Joe

Time to get into your tutorials I guess. Thanks for writing all that training Marion. Jim

Oh no, I was hoping they'd release it after the holidays! Does it mean I would have to re-arrange everything on old posts too, or the new editor will work for new posts only?

Haven't tried it yet, been postponing it as much as I can. What's the first training tutorial I should start with out of your list? (Seems like it's in no particular order).

I hope the rankings won't be affected by the new WP?

Thanks for the info, Marion! Helpful as always.

No, it won't affect your old posts until you need to edit them (if ever). And converting old posts to Gutenberg is just a couple of mouse clicks.

Start at the top of the list and work your way down. As you said, it's not really in any particular order.

Ranking depends primarily on your content and to a lesser degree on the layout of the page. But the user experience is important too. So if you create a great user experience using Gutenberg then your search engine rankings should go up.

Makes sense, thank you Marion!

Btw, I just had a quick look at Gutenberg at my test site and it seems that it can't make the font large (even though I used the "medium" size).

On my actual website, I used the additional CSS coding, based on your tutorial actually:

p {font-size: 16px;}
ul {font-size: 15.5px;}
ol {font-size: 15.5px;}

Do you have a tutorial that covers this topic, by any chance? I would really hate changing the theme just because of the small font.

What does it look like when you preview?

The font is small, like 14px or something. When I selected a certain part of the text to make it medium (20px according to Gutenberg), the text remained the same.

The normal display size of the text is theme dependent and has nothing to do with Gutenberg. Gutenberg just gives you the option to change the size of individual paragraphs. Give me a link to your website so I can see what it looks like.

You were right, I realized that I didn't use the same settings in the customizer (changing the font size with the coding).

Another question: My theme doesn't allow full-width articles, do you know if Gutenberg will help with that?

No. That's theme dependent, Zarina. You may want to consider using a more versatile theme such as Weaver Xtreme.

Thank you, Marion, I'll check it out!
