By accident, I discovered that a lot of my extern links on my workathomefuture website are stripped of both posts and pages since the last update from WP 4.5.

I have to check: Pages: 22 Posts: 117

You'd better check up yours too!

The solution came from The-Fran

What? Restore backup did not help, too?

Read my re: to Jovo :(

Wow...!

Quite a mess

First time I dislike to see something from you Loes, so terrible.

At least do what Mark suggested about the latest texts, all will be exactly preserved when you copy from text to text mode, but you know this already I am sure.

I have another problem Jovo, the last few days I have been working on my categories, and I have revamped all my tutorials after the WP update and my backup, and at first I thought, how stupid of me I haven't added target_"blank" to this extern link, I accidentally hit.
When I do what Mark says, all my updates on the tutorial pages, and that where 72, are gone again too

Hi Loes - so even restoring to your backup (which would mean the previous version of WP too) is still stripping out your target="_blank" attributes?

Could you post a link to an affected page? I can use some tools to add in the blank attribute again, and test locally if it opens in a new page, and report back.

Cheers, Mark

Oh no Loes, I haven't tried yet, I am too scared as well!!! What will happen if we don't? I mean do we have to eventually?

Yes, you have to eventually, I do one theme at the time, the first theme I updated had no issues at all, went smoothly! The second had quite some issues:(

Ouch!!! With my new site I am using a Thrive Theme and content builder, will this throw all of that out too?

Hi - I've updated a site using Iconic (no issues) and a Thrive theme, Focus - again, no issues that I'm aware of so far.

It's difficult to tell if this is a theme based issue, or just a problem with the core update itself - but it appears to be causing quite a few problems: https://goo.gl/vWvWhU

Mark

My other theme went smoothly, it's theme related

Yay Mark, I am using Focus too!! I might just give it a go while I am in the early stages of building content :)

Make sure you create a backup first - just because it worked for me...
I
t may be another plugin, or any one of any number of other factors that could be causing the problems. :)

Custom community theme support said on the forum:

Will look into this. WP 4.5 broke like 1/2 the Internet.

I back up every day to Dropbox, is that enough?

Yes, quite thorough:) I did back-up too, it's only, I have revamped 72 tutorials on my website last weekend, after the update and latest backup and before I found out the missing target blank.

Grrrr!!! Thanks for keeping us all in the loop Loes I hope you can get it all sorted soon :)

Eventually:)

Yikes! I haven't updated yet as I'm afraid! Anyone else with the theme Amadeus update?
Good luck to you!! :-(

I don't have Amadeus, Sidney went great, Custom Community it hell

Twenty Fourteen worked well.
I've now changed my theme to The Four, by Parallax, WP.
The change went well, too!

By the way, PJ uses Parallax themes, too, they're beautiful and have lots of Left Side potential........looks easier to handle, too............

I am afraid to change theme too

Ok. D'you think a support ticket might help you?

Not necessary. I haven't updated yet. Waiting to find iout more before Ii click. Thanks

You're most welcome, Liz. Actually I meant Loes. Hope she's doing fine with it now.......

Hi Loes, my thoughts are with you, long haul coming up. Hope it is not too stressful for you and you get things sort. So kind of you to send out a warning even when your castle is collapsing. thank you.

I am so glad, that the links in the library are untouched! They all work fine!
Most of the links not opening in a new tab are the pretty links

I ABSOLUTELY UNDERLINE THAT, ALEXANDER!

I mean evanevaalexa:-)))))

Are they back on the dashboard anywhere now?
Please let me know how you've fared.....

The links are all there Therese, the only open in the same tab, and internal links is no problem, I want all external links open in a new tab, and those are stripped now

Think you might want a support ticket.....

I just looked at your site and I can't find any broken links... (posts from last year randomly), links open with target "blank"... Mine seems ok too...?

The links are not broken, external links are not opening in a new tab, as I want all links going to another website open in a new tab, I have recovered about 20 posts now

Sounds good, let us know!!!:-)

Oh no!

I feel just like the picture right now

I can imagine!

Is it just the underlying links that are gone, or the whole a href tags?

I upgraded one of my sites yesterday, with no issues (using the Iconic theme - if that matters at all).

What happens if you add a new external link? Again, I tried this with mine, and no issues - so that may point to a theme issues - although I can't think why an update to the WP core would change any content of posts/pages.

I hope you get it resolved - maybe from a backup?

Cheers Loes,

Mark

All my links, which are in the link gallery and in other galleries are ok, all single links are stripped.
The links are all there, they just don't open in a new tab. I have backed up my website, when I use that, do I lose my last posts Mark?

Hi Loes - yes you probably will.

However, if you go into text mode for each of them - you can copy/paste the raw html for each post you've done since the last backup, into a local copy (notepad for example).

Then if you restore a backup, you have all of the text that you can paste back in when you recreate your posts.

It's still a pain in the backside - but it means you won't completely lost any new posts.

I've read a few people having issues with this latest update - so I'm hoping if it's widespread, then the developers will find out what the issue is and release another update, if not a fix.

Sorry you're having this problem - I know how technical issues like this detract you from getting on with business.

All the best, Mark

I have recovered my latest and most important post now, and I have sent a mail to the custom community team support telling about this issue.
The biggest problem I face, my dutch website is also running on this theme, I haven't update that one yet because the custom community theme had more issues, f.i. my whole customize site bar vanished, couldn't access widgets for over a few days, now this is solved by the support of my theme.
