All-In-One WP Migration Got Smart
All-in-One WP Migration is one of the simplest plugins to use when it comes to backing up your website. I've used it many times.
With the click of a button, you can literally back up everything contained in your website, e.g., your database, your images, videos, etc..the whole kit and kaboodle.
And it used to be just as easy (and cost-effective) to restore your backup through "Import."
But now All-in-One Migration got smart.
It used to be that if one knew what they were doing, there was a clever workaround to this size limitation of 512 MB in Plugin > Editor without having to pay their premium price.
Yes, I have done this workaround and even wrote a great training on the subject at the time.
You can review my training, but unfortunately it won't even matter anymore.

NOW when you attempt to restore ANY backup using their "Import" function it gives you this message:
They have EVEN lowered the maximum limit of restoring any backup to a miniscule 32 MB unless you opt to pay their premium price, even though they allow you to backup any size website.
For this reason, All-in-One WP Migration is no longer the great plugin IMO for handling your backups.
Pity, this was such an excellent and user-friendly plugin to use, but hey, I understand they have to make money too!
Might Be Time to Stop Using WP Clone
I used to also use WP Clone for my site backups, even though they haven't updated their plugin in 2 years. It always still worked for me.
However, as you can see from the screenshot below, WordPress apparently now goes out of their way to NOT recommend WP Clone anymore, as it shows in the Plugin box, "Untested with your version of WordPress."
(Note: Its right next to Duplicator - a plugin I have never used - which is compatible with the latest version of WP and has over 1 Million+ installations, and was updated within the past 2 weeks)
SO with these changes that have come upon us, let me ask "those in the Know" for their opinions and feedback here.
What alternative FREE WP plugins do you NOW use for your full website backups that have been effective?
Is it working for you?
I have never used Updraft before, but have heard it wasn't ideal as there were some incompatibilities with WA.
Or are we now inevitably "stuck" having to use FTP (a more laborious but effective process) for all our migration needs and backups?

Check into the price, and see if this something you are willing to pay for.

Kaju, I have been slow about getting around on this task. I was plan on using a thumb drive, Will this work?

Sandy, sure you can use a thumb drive, but if you backup your site you should be safe and store it in more than one place - perhaps a detachable hard drive, a thumb drive, and a DVD.
That way if one of them gets corrupted you still have 2 backups to the "backup."

Means just that. It doesn't mean that it won't work, and many plugins that haven't bene updated recently still do work. On the other hnad, it doesn't mean it will :-) You could try it and see if it works.
I've been using Updraft and not heard of any problems with WA sites. What sort of problems?

I love All-in-One WP Migration, but don't like the price:(
The mention of a problem with Updraft Plus came from Marion Black, a teacher of WP and known to WA'ers as someone who is highly knowledgeable. Marion wrote:
"Updraft Plus - does not work at Wealthy Affiliate because of the CRON settings" - Marion Black
Here is the link to Marion's training, and she goes on to point out problems about other WP backup plugins as well. Full Backup With a Plugin Now, does that mean Marion's word is gospel? No.
I've heard of MANY members here at WA who have used Updraft and Duplicator without incident.
Over a year ago, I took Marion's advice and began using WP Clone; it always worked for me, and I'm sure it will still work. Maybe I will still use it.
But I've read others here who have also wrote that WP Clone may be nearing its end days.
So what I am suggesting here combined with a lack of endorsement from WP - and the fact they haven't updated anything in 2 years - it may be time to seek an alternative from WP Clone.
Maybe next time I will try Updraft and Duplicator.

Hi Kaju - Good questiona dn good thread. Yes, it would be good to know which one really works!
as far as Updraft goes, you have to get cron jobs enabled by site support. They did that for me and it's been backing up for weeks. However, I confess I have not tried a restore.
Maybe WP Clone hasn't been update because it works perfectly well as it is :-) However, in the interests of security and reliability, I would also be worried if a plugin like this had not been updated for 2 years.
It woud be nice to get a definitive answer as to which one to use, although answers are not often definitive in this game :-)

As you know, there is no such thing as"definitive" answers in this business - its all Trial and Error!

This kind of information strikes fear in the heart of this non-techie! I used Marion Black's training with the WP Clone plug-in a few weeks ago and had no problem. Now, I'm waiting with you, Kaju, to hear from WA members who have experience with other plug-ins.
For a very long time Nancy, I TOO took Marion's advice and used the WP Clone plugin, but now it appears that WP is alluding to us not to use it.
I can certainly understand why this would be threatening to a non- techie, and soon there will be many more updates and bugs to correct in WP.
