Sheesh...! Well, my name is Ian and I've BTDTGTT! :-)

Tried forex (spent more on systems than lost in trading) , betting systems (made money but a near £0 return for time spent) and the inevitable 1001 varieties of Internet Marketing (some worked, again absolute minimal return, but most didn't).

Gave up IM 5 years ago.

Still dabble with betting. Occasionally.

Then I bumped into Phil online, a WA member, affiliate, enthusiast and agent provocateur! In a good way, if you follow my meaning.

So here I am. Again.

I'd really like to get a passive(ish) system running for my step-son and step-grandson to make their lives easier and help them along the way. Not to say I won't be using the money till I hand over :-)

Hey Ian,

You can definitely achieve these goals and I know that you will make it happen. The key is to dedicate yourself to your training here at WA. Follow the training, take action on what you learn, and ask questions when you have them.

It all starts with a goal - you can now start working toward it!

Hi Ian and thanks for the follow. I am now following you back.

If you know how to get the right timing in Forex, it can be rewarding. But what they say is true.. the higher the return, the higher the risk it would entail. Tried it once when I was in my 20s - when I was too young to take any risk. Lol

Wishing you success here in Wealthy Affiliate!

Yan,
In my opinion only;
With your step-son, step-grandson; I would get them started in it now so they can have some to hold their hand and learn to run what you wish to pass onto them so they will understand the business so they can pass it on to their kids and grandkids with a community like WA they will keep you current in what to do with changes in industry updates on requirements to work online. This is only to suggest. And forex speaking in a language, I can't wrap my head around it. ?provocateur? criminal acts a good way to get booted from the site.

It requires a certain mindset to do this sort of stuff. Self-motivation and all that. I've deen self-employed nd self-motivated most of my working life. It's just how I am :-)

Step-son is heaviliy involved in other activities and would have no time at the moment. Not sure he has the mindset either but will expore the waters when I think it's time.

Thanks for the follow, Ian! I find your profile very interesting because we have, perhaps, too many things in common.
I've learned a couple of tricks myself, paid a high price for my chaotic education, so here I am, happy with the community, but doing things my way until I figure out how to make money, a lot of money, to teach my followers by example, to create JVs and especially to have fun while taking challenges.
Let's keep in touch. I'm sure we can learn from each other or at least help each other not reinventing the same wheel ;-)
Happy 2019

Hi Ian, great WA ranking for such a short time here. I love you goal of setting things up for the next generations. Intergenerational wealth transfer doesn't get much of a mention any more. Everybody is struggling with supporting the current generation (themselves!). Best wishes for your online endeavours, Gary

Hi Gary - I workded hard and saved hard and have a reasonable life :-) but a few more sheckles never comes in wrong :-)

However, you get to a point where you don't want that much or you see the futility in chasing consumerism :-)

My step-son has just started to make his way but struggles to save. My step-grandson is 2! :-) So I figure if I can get something going that I can (eventually) get them involved with it's gotta be good, especially if there's a passive income element :-)

Hello Ian,
Thanks so much for stopping by to say hello.

Well forex is speculative but I guess if you have a system that will keep your head above water then that is a good thing. What about the crypto currencies that everyone is talking about these days? Isn't that tempting you. Anyway welcome to WA and all it has to offer.
All the best to you.

Hi Ian
Many thanks for the follow, I've returned the favour and followed your good self. Impressed to see your ranking considering you only joined WA in July this year. You must be doing something right.
I've had a go at matched betting online and made a bit of money, but it was a long hard slog that worked out at a very poor hourly rate. Always been fascinated by making money online and now I think we have found the perfect platform.
All the best with your future success and lets keep in touch.

Thanks, Rob.

Did you do Bonus Bagging? That didn't take too long and I made a few hundred £ but then you move onto matched betting. At one point I had accounts with about 70 bookies :-) but then when the bets starting winnning there and losing on Betfair I got gubbed and closed down.

It eventually became impossible to do so I closed all the accounts and concentrted on systems that you could do on the exchanges. THAT took a lot of effort :-)

My rank is an accident :-) I've crept up a bit higher but I definitely can't sustain it. Here's a post by friend Adel, and I need to do likewise: Sports cars and RVs! There's a boyhood dream! :-)

I'm sure you'll make a massive success of this. If I can be of any help, don't hesitate to ask.

It does take some time but with patience, dedication, persistence and time it will happen and you can call on me at any time you feel overwhelmed. We are all here to help you achieve your goals.

Thanks, Carol. Actually, I don't have the T Shirt but I should have! :-)

I'm currently on Level 4 and struggling with low-hanging keywords. I think everyone does. It's a major problem to find enough to write 50 or 100 or more articles. I think it's very difficult to give general advice about it as each niche has its own peculiarities.

Ah well, back to keyword research... :-)
Reply
possumlane Premium
Hi - that's a shame about the T-Shirt - I think we should start a niche selling those T-Shirts - I think they would sell well - what do you think? I have just about given up on Keywords - I write a 500 word article and I am still getting ranked. They say to write a 1000 or 2000 word blog but who has time to read that long a blog - I certainly don't and if a blog is too long I skip it - same with bios that are too long but I guess that is my idiosyncrasy
Carol
Reply
YanFellow Premium
Hi Carol - yes, let's go for it! :-)

https://www.streetshirts.co.uk/

I hate reading long articles but that's what the guys - Kyle et al - say you need. Maybe G likes 'em But then I guess the bots have more time :-)

If I see a long article I think of those massive sales pitches where someone's trying to sell you something for $97 or $297! The longer the page, the more expensive the product!

Alenka is asking the same question about article length at this very minute: Do you have any stats or info on ranking in relation to article size? I guess it will also depend on the keyword.
Reply
possumlane Premium
I do like your thinking in relation to the T-Shirts. At the moment am negotiating to purchase a publishing company and putting the books out through affiliates.
Am also fed up with the $97 offers and the constant upsells. I know what they all way about the length of the blogs but new people find it very difficult to write long articles and I think that it can sometimes be off putting. I stick to my own theory of 500 words or less. If you look at a lot of marketing, especially the ads on television, they are short, sweet and to the point. When I make my video clips I keep them to 60sec because the concentration span is lost after that time and I think the same could be said for long blogs. I take particular notice of ads on TV and billboards etc. anywhere there is marketing I observe what is said and how much is being said. I am currently working on the advertising and marketing of a new broadband wireless system that is going to be of great benefit to those areas in the world that are classified as Black Spots and I am trying to keep it short, simple and to the point. Just my opinion you understand
Carol

Just read your profile. Blimey!

Maybe we can leave the T Shirts for now... :-)

In another life (not so long ago) I was (am) a professional writer so I don't find that difficult (apart from a visual impairment) but getting low hanging keywords is. I understand how daunting it can be for a beginner to write ANYTHING!

I also agree about the reduced attention span but, as I'm still building my site, I'm reluctant to go against current advice :-( I rarely wade through long articles, though.

Hi Ian,

Great to meet you and thank you for following me.

I love a punt myself, primarily thoroughbred racing. We have a champion mare over here in OZ called Winx. Here is a link to her stats https://www.racing.com/horses/winx
She is rated the best horse in the World and last Saturday won her 4th group 1 Cox Plate. She was at good odds @ $1.24. The bookies would have taken a caning. $1.24 is great odds for her because she usually starts around 10/1 on even in group one races. And at times she has run in small fields in group races because many trainers won't take her on. Those that do are after a pay check for 2nd 3rd fourth or fifth.

Anyways, on a winning note, I would like to wish you the best in all aspects of life.

Cheers,

Brad

Hi, Ian.

Thanks for the follow and joining my network; I've returned the compliment. I loved your Bio. It closely follows my experience online!

I agree with you regarding passive income. I believe the way to go is to build up a following and then sell advertising space aka Adsense. I am told I can expect around $1000 per month for a site pulling in about 30,000 visits per month. So that is what I am aiming for, and then I will see the truth for myself. If my source is correct, then why not build the website to 100,000 visits per month?

I still have some way to go to execute this plan, but I'm working on it. In the meantime, I keep writing.

Best wishes,
Paul.

Very true, and programming gets harder as I get older! I don't do much programming these days. I've switched to Business Analysis as I have 13+ years with the company and I know the business.

As Technical Manager I still get to oversee other programmers work and keep them on the straight and narrow. Some have a habit of chasing rabbits down their burrows! I then have to find them and get them back doing what they're supposed to be doing. Lol
