Hi everyone,

I am going through my older posts and updating them and would like to change my image sizes.

All of my images right now are the same size for blog

Suggested sizes for feature images range and depend on the image content and whether you use the default fill, cover, or contain options.

800 x 600px or 640 x 480px work best for the feature image. Based on image content.

Once you compress and/or optimize the image, it will fit properly without slowing you down.

All, ok, most, even I forget, lol, to size my images before adding them to the media library, of them are sized at either size.

When I add media to a post, I can adjust the size and center or set the image on either side.

And as Partha mentioned, check your phone for the real view, don't rely on the editing properties for mobile views.

Appreciate your response Rudy.
Thank you.

Hey Jenny,

If you're "following" me you'll see the website on my profile.

That is the GeneratePress FREE template, but I have used it on the GP Premium too, and kept my Featured Image size the same ALWAYS.

And I have certain sizes that I use for "in-article" images too.

Now here's the EXACT science behind the image sizes I've chosen!

I looked and went, "Oh look at that, that's look pretty" 🤣🤣🤣

That's pretty much what I did!!! LOL!!

I've read many, many, many articles about "perfect size for images", it seems I'm approximately 50% LESS than what is suggested.

But, I'm happy with it, I could TRY "suggested sizes" (pretty much double what I'm gonna tell you in a sec), and they may even be better, probably are, but I like what I've chosen... for no other reason than I choose it, LOL.

BUT when I "look with my own eyes" on Desktop and then again ACTUALLY ON mobile (smartphone) (don't cheat it... actually LOOK on your smartphone rather than checking the "mobile version on your computer", they "seemed alright" (to me!!! 🤣🤣 I'm NO visual/image expert AT ALL... EVER).

So, here's what I use (on the site in my profile and I make the actual size templates in CANVA and then "edit" my image to fit into that specific SIZED template)

Featured Image - 700 x 467

Landscape in Content - 800 x 600 or more often 600 x 400 (800x600 is too big for MY personal liking [on desktop and mobile - I checked both myself] with GeneratePress, but check it for yourself... different tastes, who knows!! it's a personal thing. LOL)

Potrait in Content - swap it around, i.e. 400x600 or 600x800 (again, 600x800 looks MASSIVE on GP)

I may sometimes have "slightly" different sizes, but they fall into similar parameters/metrics/ratios as above.

Partha

p,s, I use Imagify Image Optimizer on that site

Thanks so much, Partha!
I will try out your suggestions.
Does it really matter if blog images are the same size as featured images? If I want to use same size images throughout to keep it easy and consistent?
I value your opinion, thanks again.

Yeah, I don't see why not.

I just personally like a bit of variety every now and then, but that's just me. There is no "science" to the choices I have made, I'm definitely No Designer!!

However, if it looks good at the top of your post, there's no reason it won't also look good further down in your content.

Most GP Premium themes are "symmetrical top to bottom".

Okay great, thank you!

https://enginescout.com.au/wordpress-image-sizes/

Thanks, Abie. I’ll check it out.

Most of my free images come from Pixabay and I download the 640px wide size.

Thanks, Phil.
Do you use the same size for both feature and blog images?

I usually leave the featured image as the 640px size (my blog post template adjusts it automatically) and I set the size on a blog post itself to 500px with the paragraph flowing around it.

If you go to my profile and click on the Super Affiliate Challenge website and then on BLOG in the main menu, you'll see the featured images resized to fit in the columns. Then click on the post Affiliate Marketing for Beginners: Become a Super Affiliate Part 1 to see images with the paragraph flowing around them.

Thanks, Phil I’ll have a look.
Appreciate your help.

I hope they give you some ideas, Jenny.

Yes, thank you.

Has anyone else been getting these new video indexing errors in Google Search Console, such as Video Outside The Viewport?

I have been reading up on how to fix it, but I

Hey Jenny,

The

"Video Outside Viewport", "Video Too Small", or "Video Too Big"

is NOT

something you have to worry about if they are NOT YOUR VIDEOS.

Basically, "outside viewport" is simply that it doesn't appear "above the fold" when your page loads.

"Too small" and "Too big" are self-explanatory.

So, these issues need to be fixed for VIDEO INDEXING.

BUT

If it's NOT your video, and you're simply EMBEDDING a video from YouTube, you don't really care whether it's indexed or not, it's NOT your video.

Once embedded on your article the video WILL be available to watch on your website and can be clicked through to be watched on YouTube.

These GSC video "errors" are all to do with video INDEXING.

Sure, if the video is indexed (for the video creator) this is good for them, and it MAY be good for you, as YOUR WEBSITE may even appear in search results for that video (BUT, is it really worth the effort changing the dimensions of a video that is NOT YOURS in order to improve that video's indexing capabilities?)

But, as I say, if you're EMBEDDING, don't worry about it, it's not your video.

Obviously, if you're uploading your OWN VIDEOS onto your articles then you would want to sort out these issues.

The videos whether indexed or not, or too big or too small for indexing (according to GSC) does NOT affect your articles, your website, or the viewability (is that a word? Hahaha) of the videos in any way.

Partha

This is great to hear, Partha!
Thanks so much for clarifying this.
None of the videos are my own so I won’t worry about it.

Great to know, thank you Partha! All the best.

I have already decided to ignore their warning, but this is not the real issue.

The issue is that something is clearly wrong in their algorithms in general. I have hundreds of videos and all embedded the same way and with the same box size and from the same YT source. So how can some of them be too tall? They check by robots so this is not some human error from their side.

I think Google has over-stretched its power and created a mess in every aspect, rating is an obvious example. There are no rules any more although they are adding them more and more, creating an increasing chaos.

Hello Jenny, are those videos from YT? If so, do you use the entire embed code? I don't have any problems, and my page is completely autoresponsive.
Also, as Phil mentioned, you can change the dimensions in that code.

Yes, all the videos are from YouTube. I just embed the code, as I have always done with all my videos.
As of right now, only 6 of my videos cause this issue in Google Search Console.
This is something new that Google has suddenly come up with to cause more headaches!
Thanks for your help, I'll use Phil's suggestion to change the dimensions.

No worry, something tells me very soon you will join the club.

Having the same issue.

Check out Partha’s response.
If the videos are not your own, no need to worry about this issue.

Thank you for the help, appreciated. All the best.

Sorry I’m late to the game here, but it certainly looks like you have great suggestions below — I hope you are (were) able to get this issue handled!

-Mike

Plenty of warnings about videos in all sites, no idea how to deal with them. Too many, and why now? Videos have been there sometimes for years. There is no end of issues with Google.

Agreed!

looking at my mobile version of the page with hte video - it now does extend either side of the viewport....
the way i fixed it - still pending at present - is to set the width to 100% on the video rather than a fixed 350pixel width...
this then scales in mobile with black bars top and bottom - but it stays within the viewport...
google only tells you the problems - not how to sort them...

Thanks, Phil,
I will try your suggestion. I have 6 videos that seem to have this issue (unless Google finds more!).

Where do you choose this? When you pick up the code from YT with embed, there are no such options?

if you look at the code - where it says width"350" change the 350 to 100% or 80% and this takes the width of the screen and sets it to 100% or 80% of it - so may make some wide screens look stretched ...

Thank you Phil.

Actually the number is typically 560 for the width, not sure where you get 350. But in any case, I just tried and it worked, but it is indeed stretched. Any idea about what should be used for height?

I see warnings in GSC 'video too tall'. Cannot understand why, perhaps this is about mobile which I do not use so have no feeling about it.

probably thinking about the height....
you could set it to 80% and center it...
i am leaving the height at 350...
i think the height warning is if it takes up too much height of the mobile screen...
and remember this is not for you - it is for your visitors - check what percentage are coming on mobile....

All videos in all sites have the same embed code, so I cannot understand how only some of them can be too tall. They are all the same height and the same proportions. It simply makes no sense.

I do not have a mobile so cannot see what the issue is.

that doesn't make any sense...
if they were different sizes then i would understand it ...
to view in mobile size then use the preview in your wordpress editor...
or press f12 when viewing your page and in the tools for your browser choose mobile view....
don't do this while creating a reply as it loses it and you have to retype it all again.....
i know the feeling of not having a mobile...

I just logged into my website and noticed that I had a new plugin installed called Filester File Manager Pro.

I did not install this.
Has anyone experienced this, w

is it the same as this one in screenshot? I cant remember installing this either, weird!

Hi Lizzy,
No, mine was called Filester File Manager Pro.
Very strange.

oh ok, contacted site support anyway, thanks for the warning!

Hey Jenny,

Deactivate that nasty plugin a.s.a.p.

Check under your website's Users to see if someone has added themselves to your WP website. See 1st screen print...

If there is someone there that should NOT be, delete them.

Then, under Settings > General and make sure that the Membership checkbox is NOT check marked. If it is, then delete that and make sure to scroll down and click on the Save Changes button. See 2nd screen print below...

After you've done all of that... contact SiteSupport to see if they can figure out how that plugin got installed.

Once the investigation has been completed, SiteSupport will either delete that plugin or suggest to you to do so.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks, Trish.
I have deleted that plugin right away.
Site support reset my password.
Thanks for your response.

I had something similar and deleted the plugin.

Hi, Jenny

I had a problem like this 6 months ago, where an attacker breached my site security and installed two plugins to add thousands of gambling URLs to my sitemap.

See You should notify Site Support of the mysterious plugin and look for others.

Frank

Thanks, Frank.
I remember your post on this.
I will notify Site Support.

I have not, but have you alerted site support?

I will contact support.
