About one of the WA plug-ins, ELEMENTOR.

I have been having a terrible time with posting. Since Site.content doesn't like me and keeps screwing up everything I do there, (probably my fault!) I switched to creating and publishing posts only through Wordpress. Disappointed that all of my Site.Content problems had followed me I went into search mode to find solutions. Elementor found me and we have been talking since. Then I discovered that Elementor is among the Plug-Ins WA has already installed in WP. So now I am going to use Elementor for all my posting.

I am sharing this experience in case any newbies are as computer-and-Internet ignorant as I am (doubt if that's possible). If, as I was doing, you happen to type your posts on your lap-top, then copy them onto either Site.Content or WordPress and they are drastically altered, you have got the same problems I had. (1) I typed single spacing. They changed my posts to double spacing.(2) I typed Times New Roman, with body copy 12. They switched my posts to a large, faint, ugly font. (3) I typed properly. They created single word lines and huge gaps in my posts, all over the place. A disaster...rinsed and repeated!!

I consulted a few Ambassadors and was advised to change my theme. That might work, but think of the time it could take to "try out" 3 or 5 or 10 or 30 other themes before you find a possible solution. Better to use one of the plug-ins supplied by WA....that's what they are there for.

If anyone who is currently using the plug-in Elementor has a minute to share, please let us know of your experience. Publicly or in private, whichever you prefer.

May your posts be perfect and your traffic and conversions pleasantly surprise you. (I just added that to show you I've learned a couple of important words!)

John

Guys I was doing quite well with Elementor until time to add sections. I can't get my screen options on the Elementor page edit.
When I go to the elements page I can't X out to go to dashboard. there is no X at the bottom left of the page. I have a settings button instead. I haven't figured out how to proceed without the page builder integration option. It is this way on all my sites. They are all Generate Press themes.
Anyone using the Astra theme? Is Elementor working there?
Actually I thought it was Siterubix at first. I checked all my sites from scratch. Couldn't find any problems on my end.
I really hate to change themes at this point. I have made approx. 10 logos with my color pallet for my sites. Have an excellent supply of related photos.
Don't chew me out, but I am mass producing 5 sites for blogs. I am learning so fast this way, and actually getting kind of proficient. Same themes, different blogs. When I have a chance I write blogs and save. I ensure their quality. I have watched a couple videos on blog writing for beginners. It helps that I have quite a bit of knowledge in my niches.
My niches are related to bonsai. Same site setup, different trees/subjects. Too broad for one site for good ratings with Google. I may try one broad one when I have more time. I have extensive knowledge of about 15 trees. So you see my delima?
I know, I know, one at a time. I am when I get to that point.
It's like when you cook holiday cookies. You might cook 50 at one time. but it's time to slow down when they cool and you have to put 5 different frostings on them.
I heard what you said. Cookies are easy to bake. Five websites are easy when they are the same with just different frostings. I am finishing them in steps. Like now, I am ready to add about 3 sections to each one. I will then go back and add 1 background to each one and so on.
If I can get these bugs out of Elementor I should be blogging by this weekend. Then I will take a break for a couple days and do some more Affiliate Bootcamp or something.
I hope you understand what this crazy man is doing. I am trying to get it done. Actually it's fun.
Now, guys, back to my original query, what is wrong with my Elementor?

When Wordpress 5.0 comes out shortly it will include something similar to Elementor called Gutenberg.

Wordpress had been working on it for quite some time. It will actually make plugins like Elementor obsolete...so I wouldn't get too caught up with the plugin.

Gutenberg will have an easier drag and drop interface on our Wordpress sites for editing and modifying our themes. So hang in there, it will get easier.

I'm sticking to basics and just creating content for now. The tech stuff can be picked up along the way. But having as much content as possible it the key to a successful website.

Wendy. Thanks so much. I think I will concentrate on content and take a break from the theme thing. Very aggravating.

Hello John

I use Elementor, but not on all my pages, I am using a "hybrid" approach, so I have best of both worlds.

As so many on this site have told me before, "focus on the content", so I put my time and energy into my content now and only fiddle with Elementor when I have time to play around.

Stay focus on your content and don't get lost in the trap of trying to make your site more"fancy"

Thanks. I am taking your advice........

I use siteContent and it never changed my post to double-spacing. I may have just been lucky. Glad to hear that you found something that works for you.

Hope your problem is solved soon. I use site content and I have no problem with it. All the best.

Hi John, Elementor is a very nice page builder and I used it for a while.

However, I realized I spent too much time creating everything, so I decided to go back to basics.

I write a lot quicker now and I like sitecontent very much now that I understand it.
Nick

Thanks so much. Good advice....

Hi John, Thanks for sharing, Best Alan

Hi John

I'm sorry to hear that you've got so much hassles with it! Don't feel alone, we are all learning and all of us have our challenges! ;-) (Just as well, since otherwise we would all have been stuck on the exact same thing and nobody would have been able to help us!) :-) LOL!

What I have found is that MS Word or Open Office (many of these big word processing programs) add some invisible characters that screw up a lot of things. (So take heart, it is probably not you that are causing the problem, but the programs!) :-)

When I had to work offline and then copy things over when I go online again, this is what I found to have worked best for me.

While offline, I type my post in MS Word or Open Office - since it is easiest to read in there. But don't fuss about the formatting or the font or anything John. Just type it so that you get your thoughts on "paper". :-)

Then I copy it to Notepad. (Go to your laptop's start menu, look for Accessories and find Notepad in there, or just search your laptop for "Notepad").

Notepad is a very elementary word processor, but I find it's font difficult to read, therefore the reason why I don't like to type directly into it. But the reason why I copy my work from MS Word over into Notepad, is because Notepad strips out all of those characters that MS Words adds in there.
(I often refer to Notepad as the "laundry machine", since it takes away all that is not necessary.) :-) LOL!

(At this point I used to save my work, if I couldn't connect to the internet immediately.)

So after I've put my post through the "laundry machine" (Notepad), I then copy it into SiteContent or Wordpress, where I then fuss about it - read through it, to correct my spelling, fix the formatting and insert hyperlinks and Call To Actions and pictures, etc.

BUT... (you knew something was coming, didn't you?) :-) LOL! That means that you need the ability to change your font and font size inside your Theme.

My theme didn't allow me to change the font or font size, so I followed Henry-II's training and installed the "Fonts" (with an S) plugin. What I like about this "Fonts" plugin, is that it has only the most used fonts, which means I don't have to waste time, paging through Google's 650 fonts to find one that I like and whenever I need to make changes, I don't have to scroll down a long list to get to my font either.

And seeing that you mentioned Times New Roman - I think this plugin will be perfect for you as well. Try it and see if you like it. If not, there are many other plugins that you can also try.

I hope that this may clear up your problems John!

Wishing you all the very best!

Hi Sharlee, I just read your comment here and thought you might like to know of a very simple shortcut. Instead of pasting into Notepad you can go directly to a WordPress post or page. Just right-click and select "Paste as plain text" to strip out all the formatting.

Marion, you are a STAR! ;-) Thank you!

Although I won't have it then in SiteContent to keep track of my words, it definitely would be a great work around as well! Thank you for pointing that out.

I'm sending a tub of your favorite e-ice cream over! (Just add a bit of imagination, okay?) ;-) LOL!

Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

I love icecream with imagination sauce :)

That sounds yummy Marion - no calories, non-fattening... my mouth is watering! I will have to grab some as well! ;-) LOL!

Thank you TeamIceCream, for your very helpful message.
I have taken detailed notes, and tried the link you included (3 x) but it doesn't open for me. I will try the "Fonts" plugin as well as the Notebook laundry ! That was so kind of you. wish you great success
All the best
John.

Hi Marion and thank you for the shortcut
John

Hi John
Thank you for alerting me to the link that didn't work. It seems to be because I've put it into brackets. So we live and learn! Sorry for the inconvenience caused, it is now working.
Wishing you all of the very best!

I actually type all of my work directly into site content. There is no need to type into your laptop then copy and paste into site content. If you do it all in Site content you get to highlight what you want and add images.
It’s the only way I have written posts and works perfectly for me.
I don’t know anything about elementor but wouldn’t add any more plug ins than necessary.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

Hi Karen

Yes, you are right, it is not necessary to copy it over, but some people have to work offline (for various reasons) and then they don't have access to SiteContent, in which case they have to use another package, before they can copy it to SiteContent or Wordpress.

I just thought I'll explain why some people choose to do it this way.
I also type directly into SiteContent. Once one gets the hang of it, it is working great. I love that it keeps our statistics.

Wishing you all of the very best!
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

Hi again Sharlee...I went back and picked up on the shortcut idea. If it were not for your reply I would never have found out
So triple thanks!
John

So kind and generous of you to say so John, thank you!
Wishing you all the very best and much success!
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)
