I have quite a few visitors to a page which Google analytics lists as /h/468940.html
This is a 404 page but I need to find the source as my bounce rate has gone through the

Hey Karen,
Looks like you got lots of answers!!!

Hey Karen,

I found this tutorial from Nathaniell... Monica

Really useful information for the future but the post is not on my site at all. It seems that they have used my website name and stuck a silly name at the end. So visitors are getting a 404. I have emailed them to remove it but have had no response so I don’t know what to do as I cannot personally remove the link.
I might make a post with the silly url they chose so it goes to at Least a decent post.

Ok Karen,

Sorry about that. What does Site Support say?

Monica

It’s outside of their remit as the link is on another site that they have no control over

Thanks for letting me know... yikes, well, I hope you can get it straightened out.

Wishing you well!!

Monica

Hey Karen,

Is https://semalt.com/ your website?

Reason I ask is that the broken link checker Robert suggested you use, displays several broken links and shows EXACTLY where those links are located.

Hope this helps you.

No that is the site that is promoting the broken link to my site. I put mine through the broken link checker and it wasn’t there so it’s coming from them. I have emailed them and an awaiting response.

Google searching some of what you state... here's what I found that MIGHT offer you a resolve:

Thank you I will take a look

I hope you find a graceful and gratitudinous solution, Karen!

Not feeling very graceful or full of gratitude right now Mike. This is a big frustration as I am getting quite a lot of traffic to it but cannot find it as a broken link. I’m not very technical and do not know how to fix this one

its probs a broken link

use this toll to find out

Enjoy your Sunday.

Thank you... I worked out through Google analytics that it was coming from https://semalt.com/ but I have no idea where on their site the link is. I tried putting my website and the link in their search but there are no results.

Karen its probably within one of the comments you received.

copy/paste that link into your comments search box in WP for that site and find out.

I tried that and nothing shows so it’s not in my comments

I had a similar issue once, and it was indeed coming from one of the comments I had...

I’ve checked comments and can’t find anything

It might be a bad backlink as well James.
Now I'm off out so maybe catch you later and Karen will have found out what the problem is.
Robert

Fingers crossed Karen manages to locate it, as having a 404 page is a pain in the nether regions...

That's pretty weird...

Hey, Karen...if all else fails, can't you contact the site and ask them to check out things from their end?

I might just do that

:)

Did that but still no reply.. anyone else got any ideas? I have thought about creating a WA post with the url they are promoting so at least visitors see something... good idea or bad idea?

Karen, could you have bagged a virus, or a trojan, and that's what's messing you about?

I don’t think so, the traffic to it has now slowed to a trickle and most of the traffic came over a 3 day period so I guess they published something with the bad link in at that point.

I see...it's all so very weird this situation of yours.

So do I understand that the 404 is not showing up anymore?
