Why would someone move comments?

I'm a little confused.

There is a recent blog post that talks about "Moving Comments".

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/easily-mo...

I just do not understand why people would want to go moving comments around their website, away from their intended post. I had made a comment on his post with my take on it along with clarification, but my comment continues to be unanswered while others get a response.

Can anyone help me understand?

... my response/question is below.

I must be from Missouri!

I don't understand why, especially here at WA where we can ask for comments on any post we want, why we would want to do that?
Also, if you move comments from one post to another you are taking content away from another.

- but, it just does not "feel right" - I would feel like I am not honest with my readership.
Just me, or am I missing something?

Remember, it was the readership that put that comment on that particular page.

From what I read, the author is offering a way to move comments to posts that may not have as many comments as others, and it's an easy way to solve the problem. He also mentions the possibility of deleting a post... which means that if you don't move your comments intact, you will lose them. So, there may be valid reasons why bloggers may need to move comments, but, according to this tutorial, he makes the distinction that it has to be moved in the complete and total sense as opposed to just copying and pasting it elsewhere.

In short, you probably won't be moving comments, but if, for whatever reason in the future, you do decide to delete a post, or move comments, just know that you have to do it "the right way."

That makes it a bit clearer - thanks!

With my limited knowledge on this particular subject, I don't think moving comments under any circumstances is right (unless by mistake) - even if the post were deleted and moved to a new post intact, those "original" comments by others were specific to the first.

Just doesn't sit well with me - people are different for sure.

Well, to each his/her own - I guess! ...but... what if something goes wrong with someone's site, and they have to move content? Do you think all the work and all the comments should be lost? I did read, recently, that one member had to delete a site that just wasn't working right - for whatever reason. This type of scenario can occur... so should the blogger lose out because of a glitch "somewhere?" ...Food for thought...?

...Just wait until you get to the part where it's suggested that you correct a comment. That should knock your socks off! :) Of course... you "could" leave poorly spelled comments or those filled with grammatical mistakes on your blog, but... I would advise against it.

Yes, I'm toying with you... and yes, I'm trying to get you to open up to other possibilities - just a tad... Like I stated, you probably won't ever move comments, but ...just know that some people may - and yes, that includes cheating. So, what's the bottom line? Just remain true to yourself and do what you believe is right.

Cheers!

I loved your comment - truly
... and under the right scenario this task would be a necessary one indeed, and one that would need to be performed correctly.
Your bottom line tells it all! Thanks again!

I'm with you on this one. I've not accepted comments because they are feedback and have edited comments but it would never have even occurred to me to move comments around like that.

I don't get it either - makes no sense that I can see.

I disliked the idea when I saw it, but did not want to argue with the author.

Yeah, I know what you mean Jovo.
I was trying to make sense of the blog written, but could not find any logical, ethical reason to follow that instruction - that's why I had asked the question of the author - but still with no response.

Oh, and Merry Christmas my Friend!
(not politically correct I know - hahaha)

Thank you Joanne, Merry Christmas to you too, and best wishes. About 'political' correctness, in fact I come from so called Orthodox Christian background (you know there are some crazy people out there who did not want to accept new calendar and a few other things, damn Cesar and Sosigenes). So it is on January 7th. But living in the Catholic society for almost half of my life I enjoy both.

I would welcome a comment in the wrong place so I could add an internal link to a post that is relevant. That way someone reading the comment may read the intended post, too :)

That's a great idea. I am going to do that now. If I can remember where that comment was...

I believe he wanted his comments under posts, and he got the advice to use the page/post switcher plugin to change the whole pages + comments into a post

I actually received a comment through site comments that was made in regards to another post. I think the person must have been browsing around on my site and read some other articles. Then when he went back to WA to leave his comment he left it about another article he must have read.

I just replied back thanking him for the comment and browsing around the site. At the end I mentioned that he must have accidentally left the comment under the wrong article. But I am not going to bother moving it.

I could also see if you got a good, but general comment that you might want to move it to your "about" section so it's not showing under a specific article.

Other than that, I don't know why you would move a comment.

Thanks Tanja!

Yes I understand what you are saying, but you would have to read this author's blog post to get the full picture. There may be some exceptions, but I do not believe in this particular tactic for the reasons given there.
I know that I have accidentally left a comment the way you describe, but I don't believe he is talking about the "accidental" but using it as a method to "fill" another posts comment section.

Oh, ok. I didn't see the post so I wasn't aware of how the information was presented. I will take a look at it now.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally tend to leave things as they are if for no other reason than the search engine rankings. Once your page, your post or your comment i s in the blogosphere, it tends to compicate things whenever you move things around or do any type of editing.

Hi Hal!
Me too. That's why I wondered about why he was doing that.
... just doesn't make sense.

You have to remember it's their website and they can control the content. Many bloggers will actually change the content of the comment.

This is different though.
They are talking about actually moving the entire comment from one post to another. Those who left the comment I'm sure would not like seeing it on a different article - I don't like that idea at all.

Thank you!

Neither do I but if if they build their business like that it will have a tendency to fail.

I think you might be right about that!
... thanks again

I agree....

Just trying to figure their reasoning.
... makes no good sense to me.

Thanks Netta!

My own take on it is that it seems to me to be a lapse in integrity. If Internet transactions are based on "trust," then slippery moves really don't further things.

To me, moving around comments or substantially changing the content of a comment (beyond correcting misspelling or grammar) so it suits you better is the same as misquoting somebody. What's the point? I don't know.

And, yeah, it's their site so they can do what they want, but for my own self it does send the trust factor into the toilet.

Just sayin'....

Exactly!
