it it ethical to review products without mentioning that you are an affiliate? should you do it?

If you are an affiliate for the product that you are reviewing, and particularly if you are using your affiliate link in connection with the product, you must make an affiliate disclosure statement. ~Jude

As I mentioned earlier there was a post here the other day, however, I cannot find it. So here is the link with information. This is the FTC so it applies to the States. Don't know if it has any effect on other countries.
http://www.business.ftc.gov/documents/bus71-ftcs-revised-endorsement-guideswhat-people-are-asking

Now i always write at the end of my review
"The meaning of this post is to describe a product and he's not responsable" (in french)
Goodluck :)

Wondering why there are differing views in the comments. Does anyone know if there are legal requirements?

There is no occasion to declare that you are an affiliate. How can you declare? I think it is irrational to declare.

Depends on where you live. If you live in the United States then you do have to declare that you are an affiliate otherwise risk the wrath of the FTC.

Even if you aren't in the United States you still may be required to follow US law if you are using an affiliate network/program that is based in the US.

I read that same post the other day. I went to CMP.LY and made a badge and added it to my blog http://www.skipsinternetconnections.com/SkipConnectsblog/
Here is the link http://cmp.ly I should warn you it is not the easiest site to navigate.

When that time comes I will definitely declare that I am indeed an affiliate, it would seem deceptive not to enclose such information.

thanks so much guys. I wonder what kyle or carson have to say about this though. and it seems that it's not legally enforced?

This should help you out :)

Someone posted all the laws involved the other day - As I understand it not only is it ethical, but mandatory. I have a disclaimer page on my site, but from what I read, that is not even enough now.

That sounds about right Terea, I guess if you review something you would have to declare your interest. It would be good to see the link to those laws. No doubt @RICH will come through with the goods! lol

He seems to always have the answers! I must have saved that page. I have to go look. BBS

I wondered the same thing myself as I have seen some other members websites that do declare it!

A detailed reply would be really appreciated. Thanks so much. i'm talking about the premium membership of course

Hi, I'm not sure about the SSL cert for sure, but unless you are taking credit card payments directly through your website, you would not have much need for it. On the question of word press plugins, yes. You can install them, just need to do a search for them and then install. For E commerce, search plugins for "shopping cart" there are plenty of them.

You get everything you would with any hosting with a few modifications. You have no access to the cPanel. What specifically do you want to know?

Is there a shared SSL cert? are you able to install any wordpress plugins? does it support ecommerce? thanks

Hey guys, any of you'll would recommend any of the following hosts?: bluehost, dreamhose, ipage, globat. right now i'm thinking about globat but any suggestions are welcome. t

thanks so much guys. ill prob go with namecheap then!

You're most welcome. If you do decide to go with Namecheap, check for any discounts at https://www.namecheap.com/promos/coupons.aspx :) R.

Just enter the code I gave below for your 20% discount. :)

Highly recommend Namecheap. Use MAYDAY code for 20% off 1st billing cycle for any shared hosting (Value, Professional, Ultimate) for the month of May.

https://www.namecheap.com/

Easy one click install of wordpress and much more.

For shared hosting, with own IP address, I'm liking both Namecheap and Arvixe at the mo. :) R.

I would avoid iPage

Hi guys, ive been looking through various hosting options and it is quite confusing indeed. I am just wondering what are MUST HAVE items, especially for security and ecommerce.

You wont need an ssl certificate then. Just a good host. I would highly recommend namecheap. I use them and no issues at all.

What website are you setting up? Is it just a blog?

probably a site with affiliate links. Don't think I'll have my own shopping carts.
