I’ve just been robbed!

An early start today to get to the airport and fly off on my holiday. All went well until we arrived at the airport and found that our flight was delayed 3 hours. 🙁

Oh well, a chance to catch up on some of the blogs written by my friends here at Wealthy Affiliate.

After a while I went for a wander round some of the shops and couldn’t help noticing how expensive everything is. We got coffees in Starbucks where prices are about 50% higher than what I pay back home.

What really bugs me though is the cost of a bottle of water. Back home a 500ml bottle is less than £1 but here in the airport it’s £2 or more. For water!!!

I needed it so I had to buy a bottle but it was a very annoying customer experience. I left with a bad feeling about the shop and felt I had been taken advantage of.

Airport shops know they have a captive audience who have no choice but to pay their extortionate prices. Creating a good customer experience is not something they care about as they know they will have a whole new set of customers to “rob” in a few hours time.

Customer Service
It struck me that it’s totally different from the way I am trying to treat my customers in my business.

Rather than than trying to rip people off, if we want to succeed online we have to look after people and offer them great value and a fantastic experience on our website. We want to encourage them to keep coming back, to read our blogs and ultimately to make buying decisions based on our recommendations.

PS one last thing I have learned today is that blogging on your phone is quite time consuming 😂😂😂

It is a fact that a captive audience is easy to rip off, sports stadiums are another example, but do enjoy your break. Try blogging on your phone on a coach trip, that is serious fun.
Stuart

Haha Stuart. Phone blogging on a coach trip would probably have me losing my lunch 🤮

It passed the time away!!

Good post thanks for sharing

Cheers Dave

I had the same experience yesterday when I was at the hospital. A bottle of water was double of what I usually pay!

It’s supply and demand. I also call it taking advantage of people but that’s business.

In our line of business there is no way we would stay in business.

I have to agree phone blogging is very time consuming. I do not recommend it lol.

Cheers,

Cory

I agree that being ripped off while in hospital is truly a despicable practice. How do some people sleep at night?
Thankfully we affiliate marketers do things differently

Airport shops are a ripoff because they have a continual passing trade. Your local shops would soon go out of business if they started heavily overpricing.

Derek

Totally agree Derek. I try to go prepared so I don’t get ripped off but I hadn’t considered a 3 hour delay 😣

You are lucky it is only a little more than $2 (euro-dollar). How about $5? Ha-Ha-Ha

Well, you made a great point about creating an experience. Unfortunately, a lot of people care about ranking--and it is important(!)--but their content and style of writing (or lack thereof) desire to be better or doesn't offer THE EXPERIENCE!

Good job and great point!

Have a wonderful time!

Thanks BlueJ
I think most of us here at WA have realised that it’s about getting the right balance between rankings and experience

Yes, much easier and faster when you can use all your fingers to type!😉

It is indeed 😀. Must bring laptop next time

Hi Dave, at first glance I thought you were robbed....literally.

Too bad bottled water can't pass through airport security so we have no choice but to buy in airport shops.
Thanks for sharing your experience.:-)

Cinderella

Hi Cinderella
I know you can bring an empty bottle to fill up but I only remember that when I’m through security 😣

Hope the weather is better where you're going than it is here.

Airports are like motorway service stations. The products they sell are obtainable everywhere but when these products cross the airport/motorway location boundary, they take on the price of luxury items!

I hate buying from them. But what's the alternative? Carry a shed load of supplies around with you?

The captive audience mentality as you say leads to crap customer service but they don't care, because they know we'll keep coming back!

I avoid typing excessive amounts of text on my phone; bad eyesight and sausage fingers makes for some pretty bizarre word constructions!

Enjoy your holiday 😁🌞🌞🕶

Thanks Rob. The forecast is good - just need to get there!! 😎

Quality of customer service is on the manager.

I still remember the great dining experience I had at the Portland International Airport years ago. Great food with great service. Totally unexpected at an airport restaurant.

I don't think the airport concession operators consider it "robbing" their customers given their cost structure to operate in the terminals.

Fair point. Still it’s not a good customer experience.

That's so true about airport shops, and true about the difference in the way we treat our online customers. I can't imagine writing a blog post on my iphone without going cross eyed lol!

I know, but at least it passed some time whil waiting 😀
