Word Counts.

Hi all, thanks for reading.

I wasn't sure whether to put this as a blog or even as training, but as I am here less than 3 months I am not yet obliged to create any training, so it looks like what I have to say will have to go here in it's simplest form.

I see many posts and questions throughout WA concerning Word Counts. i.e how many words should certain pages or posts be etc, and there seems to be a little apprehension among some people as to how to create their content having always the word count in mind.

For me, the only way to create content is from your heart. Be passionate about what you have to say, and say it in a clear and concise manner in which it is understandable to the reader.

If you have a certain topic in mind, and you cover the subject spanning 400 or 500 words, then this is sufficient. If you feel you need a little more to emphasize your points, then this is OK too. If it is less then it is less.

I think if the post, page or article you produce is of good quality, informative and interesting, then the word count is as it is. If you have written something constructive then normally the word count is acceptable (in my opinion).

For me I concentrate on what I want to say, and I never consider the word count at all.

Anyone any thoughts on this subject?

Thanks all...

And no , I did not count the words for this Blog Post :)

Chris

Yes Chris this is what am talking about!!!

Hope this information helps you out :)

Yes, Chris! From the heart and with passion--the only way to write effectively. If enthusiasm is lacking, the reader can feel it within the first two sentences, and the writer may as well be talking to the wall! Thanks for your guidance, in a very satisfying dose =] Gg

This blog counts 269 words :) I'am not counting words either, but to be interesting for crawling the veryveryvery minimum is 200 - advice: 400-500

Great advice; thanks.

I agree totally. I will not post or blog just to do it. I Have Got To Be Motivated and being motivated it comes from the heart.
BUT it depends on the niche or the topic.
Great post and continue to be motivated.

I do know what your saying...sometimes there is just a simple topic or especially a product you can only say so much about..Good point. Thank you for sharing Chris. :))

I totally agree, I run out of thing to say after 300 words. The last thing I want to do is bore somebody off a cliff.

I agree with you. You write as many words as it takes to cover your subject in the way you want to cover it. Years ago, I was taught 400 to 500 words and I usually go with that as people have short attention spans plus read on mobile devices. However, I've had successful articles with 300 words and with 1,000 words. I kind of take it on a case-by-case basis.

yeah exactly.... my point exactly!! thanks for your feedback, always good to hear from you :)

Perfect! I'm deleting some of my old posts, and updating some of the better ones, and was trying to decide where the cutoff point should be for deleting for being too short.

This is SO, SO true! In my experience people who worry about word counts are often not sufficiently engaged in their subject. (I'm as guilty as anyone)

Hey, yes. me too .. and maybe most of us are guilty of this. In my opinion, it has all stemmed from article directories. A lot of them have set standards, minimum word counts being one of them. Not something i agree with personally .. but i guess rules and rules.

I agree. Readers hate fluff. It's useful informative, entertaining content they want. That's what convinces, sells and keeps them coming back.

Good blog! And just the right length. ;o

Haha thanks :)
