I had an article I wrote that when searching for the keywords in google came up on page 3 then I checked a few days later and it seems to have dropped off entirely and hasn't b

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to offer an explanation in case you still need it. I think what happened was that you probably search for your article on google and then the next day it came up because it was in your history. Just a thought.

Are you sure you are typing it in exactly, right? That is the only thing I can come up with.

How new is your website? Things will sometimes fluctuate until your site has reached a certain level of maturity. Is it only on page/article or have other pages been affected? Have you done anything which could get you Google slapped?

it seems to be just one article so that's ok the others come up in a search

Okay. Could it be that you have many too many affiliate links in that article? It might appear like spam to Google and therefore they dropped you.....there are of course a number of different reasons. I would not worry too much about as long as your other content is ranking.

Hello, I found this article http://www.ghacks.net/2009/09/02/why-google-search-results-can-be-different/

So my conclusion would be that google thought you have searched too much on those keywords...
Of course I am not sure, but I can imagine this can be the reason.
Try the same search on another computer and from another ip adres, that is the best check you can do I think....

Grtz,
Bert

It can even be enough to just logout your gmail account and do the search with an anonymous user...
It is an interesting problem you have there, so I would also be happy to know why this appears...

I think it may have been an issue with my sitemaps I had to adjust my plugins as I was having some conflicts with them
I then searched site:mydomain.com to view a list of indexed pages and a whole heap were missing as I disabled the sitemap plugin, have activated again and pages seem to be showing up again
thank you everyone :)

I'm sure you know this but since I didn't know this at one point my self and I don't see it here I might as well mention it.

If you have created a Google+ account and have some followers then at the top right of the Google page after you have entered a search, there is an option to choose either hide Private, and this allows to search all not just those you follow.

There was a time when I didn't know this and it can be a big difference of where your page shows up if you switch this back and forth.

If this is a relatively new post, you are probably experiencing what's called the Google dance. Often a page or post will disappear and then reappear at a better location. Several days later.
Just keep posting additional information and eventually your site will settle out and things will attain their permanent ranking.
I'm assuming you haven't done anything like buy links or anything like that. That will get you a global penalty. Often, though this is just a normal part of a new site startup.

thats ok thanks anyway :)

Sorry i don't have the answer Thank you for the info will check to see if any one has a reason

That doesn't seem right, have you found it anywhere at all? It should be there, Does anyone else know the answer to this question?
