Some of you may not know of the comedy behind Spam! Spam! Spam! It comes from an old Monty Python comedy skit where an elderly couple is trying to order breakfast at an eatery filled with Vikings and everything on the menu contains Spam.

The elderly couple asks what is on the menu and the cook yells out a list of what is for breakfast and each item has more and more Spam in it. Spam Bacon Sausage & Spam, Spam Egg Spam Spam Bacon & Spam, Spam Spam Spam Egg & Spam,…

However this blog is not about that kind of Spam. What I want to advise you on is comment spam and more importantly, are you checking them? Now I know what you are thinking. You are probably saying, why would I want to check my spam comments?

SPAM COMMENTS

Personally I get about 20-30 spam comments a day. I don't ever see them within my comments because Akismet puts them all into a separate spam folder and after 30 days will delete them. For the longest time since activating Akismet along with Si CAPTCHA I wouldn't even bother to check the spam I would get and let them get deleted. But recently that changed.

As all of you should be doing and as Kyle instructs us to, we need to seek comments on our website pages and posts to help with our Google rankings by providing engagement on our content. Well about a couple of weeks ago I went on a content writing spree, which I am still in the midst of, and I posted content for comments.

I had a few people reply that they left me a comment but when I went to send a reply I didn't see their comment that they said they had left. At first I was like, either they meant to leave that comment on someone else's comment thread or they lied to me. Then I remember what Kyle had said in his training, that you should from time to time check your spam folder.

SPAM FOLDER

So I started going into my spam folder and sure enough I found comments from three different WA members in my spam folder. If I didn't go and check I would have lost 5 comments, 2 of them commented twice. Ever since then when I go into my WP editor and I see I have spam comments in my spam folder I always go through and check to see if any legitimate comments found their way into the folder and if they did I mark them Not Spam and then reply to them.

So if you get spam comments in your spam folder definitely do what Kyle says in the training and what I do now, check the folder for comments that maybe there. The last thing you want to do is lose legitimate comments because those people could be a future customer. But be careful because some spam comments may not read like spam, like the top comment in the picture below.

Both of these are spam. It is obvious that the bottom one is spam with all of those links. Any comment that I see with links that is not relevant to the post it is commented on I don't even consider to be legit. However you may think that the top one is legit, right? WRONG, it is spam too because the home page shows a 404 error and though a WordPress website with no published posts will show a 404, there would still be a theme image and as you can see in the below picture there is no theme.

You can see the home page of the sender by pointing to their URL and WordPress will generate an image of the home page at that URL. So it is important to not only search your spam folder for possible legitimate comments that somehow made their way in there but you should also avoid the spammers before replying to any comments that do not seem right.

Now with all this talk about spam I’m going to have a late lunch…and NO it will not contain Spam! Spam! Spam!

Thanks for that info. Where do I go to check for spam?

on top of your comment page in costumize your page

Thank you very much.

When you are answering your comments in your WordPress editor at the top you should see links that say "All", "Pending", Approve", "Spam", and "Trash". Just click on the "Spam" link to view your Spam comments, if you have any.

Thanks Robert. I appreciate all your help.

You're welcome Phyllis.

Thank you again for the heads up.

You're welcome Darrell

I loved the Monty Python show!
Funny story about spam, my son (about 12 yrs old at the time) was in the back seat of the truck and out of the blue asked me what spam was, So I started rattling off spam information from the computer world, he says that don't make sense mom. So I asked what he was reading and he told me, Lol...He was reading a soldiers military journal and he was talking about heating up spam on his radiator of his jeep...Lol.
Of course I had to go buy some so he could try it, he said it was okay...too funny, kids.....

LOL Kids can be great for light comedy at times. As for eating Spam, I haven't had any since I was in my teens and if I remember correctly, it wasn't much to write home about.

That is for sure, the veterans still eat it sometimes, it was better than their sea rations...Lol!

Anything is better than sea rations. lol

No kidding! Lol!

Oke my spamfolder, what on earth does he want, don't understand

Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin

Because it is spam.

Whenever it doesn't make sense it is ALWAYS Spam.

So there is nothing wrong with my H1,H2,H3-3-5% SEO keywords/RSS- or LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing).

LOL...No, nothing wrong.

I love Spam! It's even good on corn flakes! LOL . But not that spam that comes in a folder!! Jonathan

On corn flakes? LOL Being the type of person that I am, always willing to try something different, I would probably try it. :-)

Enjoyed the article. Tahnk you for sharing your thoughts.

You are welcome Julie.
