Hello WA family, I just published an article with several images.

Is it possible to resize the images on my blog even after the article is published? If yes, please how

Resizing can be done on your computer using windows photo app.

Right click to edit, select crop, this set the apect ratio in pixels and this helps all your images in your library to have same dimensions. (see below)Save or rename if you want to retain original.

Open again click resize, you can then select a percentage and it will tell you the quality also. Typically you should aim for 150 kb file size. The above depends on the quality of images you need.

They will be diminished somewhat if you resize beforehand, and occasionally image compression plugins will further compress and sometimes distort your image.

I need high quality images so I take my own, they are huge 2mb files. I use the aspect ratio of 2:1 or 1:1 to crop down to 1500x750 pixels or 750x750 pixels respectively. Sometimes a little more or less depending on how I need to crop.

This cropping results in file sizes around 200kb for me and I upload them that way. I use Smush for image optimization on my site, and they appear as very high quality and load just fine.

I also changed the settings for max image sizes to allow for variations. 1800x900 max and 900x900 max.

Here is a link to how my large images appear:
https://modelrailwaytechniques.com/gondolas-photo-resources/

I currently have about 350 high resolution photos similar to these in my library and the total disk space they are using is only about 2.8mb

Thank you for your detailed explanation. I'll check out the windows photo app. If I have any questions, please I'll let you know please. . Wow! I just had a look at the link and I have to say the images are crystal clear!

Thanks again!

No problem, feel free to reach out any time.
James.

Hey Beatrice,

Uploading and use humongous images and editing them inside WordPress is never advisable.

Eventually, your website will become so overburdened with large images that it will be very difficult for most device, to load your site quickly... which would only server to increase your site's bounce rate.,

That is why it is always best to only upload the EXACT sized images that you need.

Having learned that lesson at the start of my learning to build websites, other goodies have become available and changes have had to be made.

For example, when image compression first became available, I remember having to download EVERY image on one of my larger sites, and having to compress them ALL, on at a time.

Then having to upload them to the EXACT folders they resided in on the website.

And boy, did that ever improve that site's loading time!

Hope you find this helpful.

Hi Trish,

Thank you so much for the explanation. It makes a lot of sense! Can you please list some steps I can follow next time so that I can resize images properly before uploading them to my site? Please how do you resize images before uploading on your site? Do you use a particular tool?

Also, I get my images from Site Content as I find it easy to just insert images right there before publishing the post to my site. Please is it possible to resize images on the Site Content writing platform?

Thank you for your help.

There are many different and amazing tutorials that other members have created to help other members resize their images that offering you anything short of how to find them would be silly on my part.

See screen print below...

If you are using SiteContent to do your publishing to your WordPress website, then a simple checking of your Media Library should let you determine if the humongous image was uploaded or not.

My guess would be that, no humongous image would have come from SiteContent, as those such image sizes are usually found on sites were members upload images from their cell phones or digital cameras.

For instructions on using SiteContent, I direct members to Carson's post: as I do not use SiteContent to publish my posts.

Thank you for your help. Highly appreciated.

Open your post to edit it first. If you are using the block style editor, select your image block, then on the right-hand side you can set the image to 25,50,75, or 100 percent. You have to have the settings tab open in the top right corner to these, and also be on the block tab.

Thank you for your help.

Once you publish your blog, you can always return to edit.

Open yiur posts and find the one you want to edit.
Click the edit button to open the post page.

Find the image you want to edit, and tou can grab a corner to resize the image. Save and view rhe page in a new window.

If you use a page builder like Elementor, you can follow the same directions to resize the image.

Always size your images before posting to media library. Best sizes to use for feature image is 800x600px or 640x 480px.

Logo and page tab icons can run between 150 - 500px squared.

Once you have set the image sizes, use your optimize tool to optimize the images, or compress them for best results and increased web loading times.

Your hero heading should average around 1500 x 500px , based on the type of image.

Larger sizes are easier to reduce than it is to increase smaller sizes and still keep the image intact.

Rudy

Thanks!

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Please which optimize tool are you referring to? I have no idea. Thanks.

Sure! Hope that helped!

Rudy

Sure!

With our WA websites, kraken.io is installed automatically and is used by many folks here.

Kraken.io Optimizer is a plugin you can add to your website from the plugin page.

There are a slew of plugins you can use to optimize your site, and compress your images.

WP Optimize can cache your site , clean your databases and and compress your images.

These are just 2 of the available plugins that tou can try out for yourself!

Let me know if you want more info!

Rudy

Thank you for your help.

You're welcome!

Rudy

I usually upload images from my phone and resize the to 600 X 450 to make the fit right!

Jeff

I think the question is how to resize the pic AFTER published. Can that be done and if so how?

Thanks for your response Jeff! How do you manage to resize from your phone? Do you use an app?

Also do you know how I can resize images after a post has already been published? Thanks

I don't use my phone! I upload to a computee, then right-click and resize down to 600 X 450 MP.

I just don't like using the phone--too small!

Jeff

You should be able to click on the image and resize it there, my friend! I have succeeded with that on occasion, but it that doesn't work, then delete it, go to the original image and resize it and then resubmit it!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your response. I'll try that too. Where do you get your free images from? Do you take images from the Site Content writing platform? I find it convenient just inserting images from there. I guess that's why I am unable to resize images...

On rare occasions, I do, Beatrice, other than that, most of the images are my own taken on a cell phone!

Jeff

Okay thank you so much.

You're very welcome!

Hello dear friends, I got an email from a company asking if I could link one of my posts to theirs.
I have notified the company that I have no problem doing this. However,

They are checking to see if they can get some easy linking from you. I would ignore them.

Hmmm...I agree! Thanks for your response.

Something isn't right. I would ignore.

Thanks AbieAJ.
I think I'm going to just ignore.

You're very welcome.

google is not a fan of link swapping or exchanges...

Thanks for your response Feigner.
I didn't know that. I thought google wouldn't mind.

if you google link exchange or link swapping you can find out more..

Thank you. I'll do just that.

Hey Beatrice,

Yes, I get those types of emails all of the time, either asking me to provide them with a "better" link when I have provided their site with... or asking for me to accept a guest post... or for me to add a link from a specific post of mine to theirs.

And, I ignore them all.

Hi Triblu.
Thanks for your input. I would just ignore this as well.
I'm not sure why they said Google doesn't favor two sites exchanging links between themselves.

That is an urban legion. Of course Google loves it when REAL, quality, relevant links are added.

My thoughts exactly.
Thanks again Triblu.

Hey
Not sure I would do due diligence.
Thank you.

Hello WA family,
Happy New Year!!
Please what's the best theme for a non profit website?
I'm looking for something that has a slider and something that I can add

I test it first before buying in, because that can be expensive.

You want to make sure they are responsive, extremely light, fast, well coded, SEO optimised, flexible, adaptable and customisable

You may try GeneratePress or Premium where you can extend the theme and can have many layout templates.

Jay did a post on this 6 mnths or so ago.

If you check out his website - and search the 3 best wordpress themes for non-profits you will find it.

Alex

Thank you. I'll check out Jay's website.

I don't know that there's any specific theme for a non-profit but you can add a slider to any website with the free plugin Smart Slider 3.

Thank you for your response.

Hi dear WAers. Please what theme is best for a non profit? Would need a theme that you can easily add donation buttons and also set up newsletters.
Thank you.

Hey
Appearance > Themes and add new. Input keyword find something suitable, install and activate.
https://www.wpbeginner.com/showcase/best-wordpress-themes-for-nonprofits/

That is one very good way for doing it. The other option is to use something like I do with Thrive Themes, which means you can design it from scratch, without the restrictions offered by either paid or Free themes.

Thanks for your help.
