Good evening folks. Recently I had a request to update Generate Blocks Pro on my website. So I click to update the plugin and I get an unable to update GBP because Generate Bloc

3

Glad to see you’re getting this worked out. And just to add to this, if you need a plugin removed that’s something you can do manually without Site Support.

1

Hi Eric,

How? I cannot see the plugin on my dashboard. However when I try to update it - WP says it is still there.

So it is frustrating.

Alex

Ah, I got you.
Bizarre.

I wonder if a full logout/log in/ restart of your machine would do anything. Probably not, but it's weird that a plugin just disappears on you.

Hope you get to the bottom of it.

1

It is weird, I am sure I did not delete it from my site, and if I did somehow, then there should not be a residual folder preventing a re-install.

I have shut down and restarted the machine several times since this first showed up, and it is still a problem, but thanks for the suggestion.

Everything still works, but I cannot update the GBP plugin which will eventually be a problem.

Alex

You will need to contact the plugin developer support directly for a solution. I ran into a similar issue a couple of months ago with another plugin, and the only solution was to contact the developer.

1

Thanks,

I have done that. Now I just need site support to follow through.

Alex

Hey Alex,

Before you do anything... please reach out to SiteSupport and be sure to provide all details that you've shared here... and any further clarification you can provide them with.

Sometimes when we trying to fix things like this on our own... we create an even bigger mess.

Hope you find this helpful.

1

Thanks Trish, I have told them everything. As Richard says - they do not seem to understand what the problem is.

However we are working on it.

Alex

1

And Generate Press Pro support doesn't understand.... really?

Wow, that has to be a first.

Did you offer them full access to your website so they could try it themselves?

Personally, I've NEVER seen the issue you described... but it sounds like a damaged WP database to me.

Maybe have your LIVE site moved to a SiteRubix staging site and experiment with the site there, so... if you mess anything up it won't hurt your LIVE site.

Here's what I used years ago: I did this on a LIVE site at THAT time and it worked wonders...

BUT... I would NEVER recommend doing THAT when WA members have full access to having a LIVE site copied to a staging site on the SiteRubix server.

All you need to do is ask the WA SiteSupport to copy your site over to a SiteRubix site so that you can begin experimenting without worry.

Just a thought...

1

That is not a bad idea. The site still works - except for some of the GBP features, so it is frustrating..

Carson is on the case.

I did offer GBP access to the site, but based on what I described, with the Site itself saying the folder already existed then did not seem to think it was an issue they can fix.

It does seem like a database problem, but I do not understand how it came about.

I have asked Carson his thoughts on moving the live site to a siterubix site to work on it, so we will see.

Alex

1

OK, Alex
I have had something similar happen with another plugin in the past.

I'm not quite clear whether you have deleted GB from your site or not.

The thing is that sometimes when a plugin "disappears" from a site, however it is got rid of, it leaves a table set up in WordPress and that table needs to be removed before re-adding the plugin.

The clue is that if you have uninstalled the plugin, and when trying to reinstall get a message saying that the plugin still exists or that the table still exists then the table needs to be deleted before reinstalling the plugin.

I used Filezilla to handle the table deletion because (at the time) site support didn't seem to understand the problem.

So, you could try site support if the above describes the symptoms you're getting, or send me a PM and I'll take you through the process.
;-)
Richard

1

Thanks Richard,

I will try this - Site Support are looking into it again, so if they cannot solve it I will PM you.

If you want to add a link inside the popup window, you can possibly use the Google Maps JavaScript API. You can access the API through the Google Maps Platform. With the API, you can create a custom map with a popup window containing the link to the external file. You can also add other features such as directions, photos, etc. (src:openaiplayground)

Create a map on your website using the Google Maps JavaScript API. You can find documentation and examples of how to do this on the Google Maps Platform website.

Set up an event listener for when a user clicks on a location on the map. You can use the "click" event in the Google Maps API to detect when a user clicks on a location.

When the user clicks on the location, display a custom popup window that includes the additional information or data you want to show, along with a link they can click to access it.

Use the "window. open" method in JavaScript to open a new window or tab when the user clicks the link. You can specify the URL of the external file or resource you want to link to in the "href" attribute of the link. (src:chatgpt)

Alex, I hope you find the above helpful.

Thanks, Abie,

This is helpful. I just need to figure it out. I do not know how to work with Javascript, but I will work my way through it.

I am doing a comparison of WA hosting vs others, and I was checking to see how much space is available for premium plus websites.

I see from the new premium plus benefit

The upgrade page, when you expand it below the plans, you will be able to see all kinds of data

Hi Abie, thanks for the reply, which is where I got the 60 GB for 10 sites. But I do not know if that 60 GB applies to grandfathered members, or if there is a different number.

I have a website request for an interactive map, where you click a Lat, Long location. A popup would then direct you to data that is available for that location. (Oil well)

looks like you may need to add some server side php and be relying on the rest api....
so maybe worth talking to Carson ( the more techie one) as to whether it will be seen as a security risk with hte managed hosting here....
external hosting you can do almost whatever you want - even looking at other cms than wordpress...
a quick scan showed that you may need to develop a rest api - what about adding it as a plugin rather than python - this way it is fully integrated within wordpress...
the data can be added via acf plugin or similar....
not used but interested....
a quick scan of plugins brought up this one
Scientific and Interactive Blocks – inseri core
maybe of some use if it works in this envronment....

Thank you, for the answer. It may be a bit more than I want to get involved with right now, but still good information. It is appreciated.

Yes! Python is widely used in web applications for everything from backend development to automation and AI integration. Many websites leverage frameworks like Django and Flask for building scalable and efficient applications.

Thanks, Abie,

I knew it would be good to ask the question here.
The WA community is such a great resource. If it can be done, most likely someone is doing it here.

Alex

I will, it will take some time, I am swamped for this month. I am scheduled to discuss this with the client in mid-March, as I cannot get to much of it until the end of February. However, you have given me some good leads to pursue.

Thank you
