I Feel Legit Now! :) at least I did at the start of my day :/
I'm doing my happy dance!!!!
This morning I finally got everything squared away and I bought my own domain. I did ask for input and I thank everyone who chimed in.
I decided to stick with my siterubix name but I went with a .info. My site is about offering information after all.
Introducing:
MOSM.info
Now, unfortunately my victory was short lived. Thankfully, I had no problems transferring siterubix to .info. I took a deep breath and gave a sigh of relief.
So then what do I do? I get the bright idea: 'Hey, I have some helpful free info to give away. I should set up an autoresponder.'
I should have quit while I was ahead.
I'm thinking, it's just setting up email. How hard can it be? It shouldn't take me long.
I go to the handy dandy question box above and start searching.
Both Kyle and Carson have a training up about autoresponders. I read through them both but they are recommending aweber. I'm sure it is great but I need something FREE.
So I put up some questions to my WA family. I got some great recommendations (thanks Ken and Alan). I will flat out say forget mailchimp. It is a total waste of your time and sanity!
I just want to say that I HATE HTML or maybe I strongly dislike it anyway.
The computer would tell me this.
And I would come back with this.
After struggling with trying to get an email form and autoresponder for about 9 hours today, my feelings were really hurt. I'm a smart woman, why couldn't I figure this out?
I put the laptop away for a little while and played with the babies. My plan was really to just give up. I was tired of dealing with it. I didn't need an email list that bad. It would just have to wait until I could afford to have a paid service.
But, oh no, not me. God forbid I should not be hard headed and stubborn for once in my life. I was determined to not give up until I had something.
I was NOT going to bed with this email nonsense hanging over my head!
I was going to find that missing piece of the puzzle!
As a last effort, I decide to go after Mad Mimi. Setting up my account was fairly wasy. It took me a couple hours and some emails back and forth with Muriel (Thanks Muriel!), but I did manage to get a mail form on my page. Not exactly where I wanted it but it is on my page.
Mad Mimi offers 3 ways to embed code. Yes I did freak and yes, Phil, my eyes did just kind of go out of focus after I read 'HTML'!
Here are the 3 ways:
1. Styled Embed
2. Plain Embed
3. Side Tab
which is kinda cool and looks like this:
All 3 can be placed in a widget which made me very happy. I wanted the 3rd one, side tab, but it doesn't turn out well when you have images on your home page.
Instead I chose the 1st one and it looks like this:
Now you can add more to this form. It is very easy to edit. I do have a thank you for subscribing response set up but I haven't figured out yet how to make it go. But I will.
Now if you can afford to pay for a service, I highly recommend you do. Then you should be able to get things just the way you like it. There are also neat things you can set up called squeeze pages but their not necessary I suppose.
I'm sorry I couldn't provide more useful information. When I figure out how to attach my response I will definitely let you know. It's been a long day. I hope yours was better than mine. :)

Wow, great job. Love the image references! Does that mean the S%#T didn't hit the fan after all....Lol. Looking good!
Angela, that is an awful lot to get through in one day. I added MailPoet as a widget because I will eventually do a newsletter when I get more than 10 people signed up! But yours looks bigger, I just have a sign in box that I set up to say "Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Congrats!
I just heard last night about there being some different widgets. If I had known that I would have jumped on it. lol Going to look at some today.
I mean the Mad Mini stuff offered is neat. They even directed to a place to create a short survey.
Down side, it only directly connect with MailChimp. That blew me away! Why would Mad Mimi send me somewhere when I can even use the survey as a direct response option? I was able to use it as a hyperlink though, which anyone can do.
The site is called surveymonkey.com. You can do all kinds of surveys. I just did 3 short questions to get to know my readers better and was able to write a statement at the end with a link to one of my articles. The survey monkey I can keep even if I do the plugin since I can use it as a hyperlink, I will add that in the next blog I do about my experience setting up a plugin.
Survey monkey is great, I've used it for employee engagement surveys. Our controller was a wizard with MS Xcel and he would put together year to year comparisons of the data with all kinds of graphics.
Survey monkey is a good tool.
It does! It wasn't exactly what I wanted but it was done! AND I found out after all of that - there is a simple plugin that you can use. I coulda died! I'm going to check it out today and I may end up with that. I will let every one know.:)
I signed up with MailChimp today, it took me about 5 minutes. I think it will be fine for the time being. Aweber sounds like the way to go in the long run.
Doesn't our Affiliate Link take a WA Affiliate prospect to s 'squeeze page'?
I believe it does. I didn't have any trouble signing up with mail chimp. The problem came in getting the mailchimp plugin to recognize that I had indeed set up everything on the mailchimp site. Which was the really frustrating part. After spending so much time creating everything I could do nothing with what I had created. :(
Good luck to you with them though. :)
You probably will have better luck as Murphy's Law tends to like to pick on me.
I have not come that far yet, so this is of great interest for me. After looking thru your 3 choises I also landed on number 3..but then...It is strange how a tiny detail can stop everything, I read "paste this code above the closing body tag of your website" Well, ok, I have no idea what a closing body tag is, so wouldn't know where to paste it. I also read Maziam's reply, add a plugin, THAT I can do. So I think I go for the easy options for now, and when I know more, I can always change things. After all your hours of struggel today, I suggest you take tomorrow off and just relax. Great post, thanks
Thanks. Yes I am going to look at this Godsend of a plugin today. :)
And all 3 of those that I showed can be pasted into a widget which is Super Simple :)
Hi Angela I have one you should try and it will not cost you a dime it is called Mail Pilot and it is offered by wordpress it has sign up forms you can use the one they provide or design your own you can also use their news letter and as long as you can drag and click it is a piece of cake I use it for my mail and my news letter and my sign up form to get on my mailing list take a look you have nothing to loose here is how I got it I went to plugins add new put auto responder plugins and it will pop up with the others all the best
OMG, where were you when I was asking about autoresponders!? lol
I will definitely take a look, tomorrow. I am done for today. Will you be available any time tomorrow in case I have questions? Seeing as you are my resident expert. :)
You look exactly like the dancing girl up top. HTML is not that scary, yeap, may be a little bit.

Haha, love the way you've written this and it's sounds much like the day I had!
I wanted to remove something on my page and spent hours going round in circles, asking questions, going on live chat. I discovered that what I wanted to remove was called "breadcrumbs", if I'd known that at the start it would have made my life much easier!
Anyway, WE DID IT, progress has been made so here's to the next challenge. :D
Yay! lol I have breadcrumbs too. I saw them in my plugins. What do they do? maybe I need to get rid of mine.
At the top of my content page, above the text it says "home" which navigates back to the home page. I wanted to remove it and was in the right area of the settings but just didn't know it was called bread crumbs. It's personal preference really. :)
interesting.I will take a look. Thanks!
