About Tmmom
Joined August 2014
Hi, I am new to all of this and currently overwhelmed trying to learn everything! My actual name is Sandra, but In case you're wondering about my screen name "TMMOM," it comes from the fact that I am Mom to two Tibetan Mastiff dogs, Ruby and Boo Boo, who you can find in my image library.

I have had a very successful career in the Corporate world as a leader in Training and Organizational Development, up until 2009. My husband lost his job of 35 years and six months later, I got laid off. Since then, despite all of my education and experience, I have done short term consulting assignments which have sometimes ended abruptly due to budget cuts, and most recently, I've been downsized from a full time job on the exact day of my one year anniversary of being hired! Needless to say, I've had enough and it's time to look for something new.

If there are any other folks out there in the community with similar experiences, I'd love to connect with you! I am looking forward to a new start and a new way to not just survive financially, but to thrive financially. So wish me luck and please share any advice, heaven knows I will need it!

Thanks for the follow! Don't give up on Wordpress it is an amazingly powerful tool. I suggest you forget everything you learnt with FrontPage and start fro scratch as they have very little in common. Remember Frontpage is web design software made for Microsoft and heavily geared towards Internet Explorer optimised websites, Wordpress is a blogging tool and content management system. Wordpress's modular system of plugins is what makes it so good. There should be plenty of people on WA who will help you

Keith, thanks for the words of encouragement regarding Wordpress. I guess this is where I am a little confused, I'm not really trying to write a blog! Anyway, I will keep working on it. My site right now doesn't look very exciting or interesting, because it is mostly content. Maybe I need to find a different template.....

Is your site live? Can we take a look?
I use Magazine Basic (free) for my personal blog as I like the clean simple look. I have toyed with various themes for my business website and not at all happy with it at present, it needs a complete rebuild. I have a paid subscription to DIY themes which have some great templates.
Don't forget Wordpress isn't only for blogs it can make a great website as well as the plugins allow you to do just about anything.

Hi, Keith. I do have something up there, it's mydoggiedoodle.com, but I am not happy at all with it. I guess the plug ins are what I need, I haven't gotten to that part of the training yet. I ran a very successful website from 2001 - 2006, and at that time I used Front Page, which worked very well for me. It mirrors Word and Power Point which I have used extensively. Right now I'm working out what I want the site to look like in Publisher and then I will have to figure out a way to get it online. Thanks for the plugins tip, that just may be the piece I'm missing.

Take a look at mine, oops, I can't post links! Its not great but you can see some of the plugins I have used. What you don't see are all the plugins that work in the background like SEO, security, backup, etc. It is so easy to add something like an email opt-in form in wordpress. There are plenty of posts around about the most important plugins and I am sure WA has some suggestions. There is a comprehensive training module in Getting Started/Tutorials, Wordpress Complete Setup Guide by That Helpful Dude!

Thanks, I'll check it out. Just can't get the graphics and text to look like I want or to be placed where I want them.

Hi Tmmom and welcome to WA! I enjoyed reading your profile, and unfortunately there are so many people in the same situation. Highly educated and experienced, gainfully employed and suddenly unemployed and dangling.

I am retired and was very lucky in that I was able to make it through my career all the way without being laid off. Nevertheless, I am so thankful for the vast opportunities via online businesses. Thank you for following me, and I'll be cheering for you! I think you'll make a new career that's even more fun (and lucrative!) via WA.

Hi, Sugarbird! Thank you so much for the encouragement, Lord knows I need it right now! I will still need to find work in my normal world due to financial needs, but once I can get this up and running I hope to be able to focus solely on this. I had a successful Training web business in 2001, but so much has changed I am struggling to learn all the new technology. Thanks for cheering me on, I will do the same for you! Have a great week!
