Is the Universe Trying to Tell Me Something?

Recently I did an SEO check on my site & basically everything sux! - not enough this, too much that, no rankings, nothing indexed, the list goes on! Can't help but be disillusioned to discover there's apparently so much wrong with my site. Plus, I don't even understand what many of these things are or mean! (I can find out of course but that's another whole learning course on its own!)

I've just discovered that when I try to add media to a post, my images in the media library don't show up, the stupid circle goes around endlessly & nothing else happens! It's weird as this has never happened before & I'm not doing anything differently. (I'll have to submit a support ticket for this.)

I also often suffer from 'blogger's block'! The trouble is I'm not an expert in my niche even though I really enjoy it (garden decor). I'm not actually an expert in anything! I think it really helps if you are, which is obviously why I'm struggling. I guess it doesn't help that I'm not the type of person who can spend zillions of hours, day in & day out, at the computer; it wears me out mentally - I need exercise, outside time etc!

I know my site is still new & I shouldn't have overly high expectations - I need to give it more time & effort. I've noticed many other sites are getting results after only being in WA for a short time so I'm thinking these folks are getting somewhere because they have lots of experience, a good understanding of all the technical terms & the internet in general (which may take me a lifetime to comprehend!).

Rather frustrated at the moment so I hope it passes soon! I apologise for grumbling, just needed to get it off my chest! I suppose I shouldn't take stuff quite so seriously, It's just that I really want to achieve something here. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! :-)

Cheers to all,

Alayne

Layney, Keep positive. Look honestly at all you have done in a short time. If you focus on what you have not done, or have done in a less than perfect manner...in general if you focus on the negative you will have negative results. If you choose instead to focus on the positive and learn from the negative, you will always have positive and improved results. It's all about attitude, my dear. Attitude and content will win over your audience.
Remember, there is no finish line so enjoy the journey. May the journey be one filled with love, laughter, joy, hope and most importantly, Peace. Peace in the certainty of your decision. donna

Hi Donna, yep, it's true, positive attitude brings positive results! I'll be making sure I keep this in mind from now on. Thank you so much for your encouragement & support, it truly means a lot to me! All the very best to you too on your journey. :-)

Hi Alayne, don't be so hard on yourself. When I came here I had a technical background, by website lingo is all different. I even had to learn that and I am still learning
.
As far as SEO goes, there is one video that I watched that helped me understand it the best. Its about an hour long but well worth the watch if you haven't seen it already.

Go through your SEO as you watch the video, just pause and go back and forth to at least get it to where it should be. Here is the link: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/seo-checklist-cheatsheet.

I have another blog on Alt Tags and images as well. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/kholmes/blog/adding-alt-text-to-media

Hope you get your adding media problem sorted it soon.

Have a great Sunday. Kim :))

Hi Kim, thanks so much for your help & the links. I know I need to quit beating myself up so I'm putting a stop to that business as of now! I've actually already saved your blog on adding alt text to media & it's helped lots. I'll be watching that video too & giving myself time to take it all in at my own pace! Thank you again for your support, most appreciated! Have a good one! :-)

Your are welcome, and my pleasure, I took that video at a slow pace and made sure I didn't miss anything. It was a very helpful resource. Take care and good luck. :))

You've got lots of great advice here, Alayne. I can't say it better than these folks have. All I'll add is hang in there. One day in the not too distant future, it will all come together for you and you'll be like, "Oh, WOW!" There was a moment when the bubble came on over my head and then I found I was understanding stuff. The one point I WILL add is stop comparing yourself to others here at WA. I started down that road, too, and had to yank myself off of it. It won't help. I will make things harder. You are YOU and it's not a race. You are learning. Give yourself time to learn. It WILL happen for you!

Dear Carla, you are a wise woman! I definitely hear you & it makes perfect sense! You're so right about the comparing thing - why do I do that when I know darn well it does no good?! I'm getting off that road right now, & staying off! I will absolutely chill out & give myself time to learn. Thank you so much, you & all these other folks are true gems!

Hi Alayne, I can relate to your frustration. I also ran into a problem, and have been stuck for over a week. Been reading hundreds of web-sites and forums without finding any solutions. But while doing that I have learned a lot of new stuff that will come in handy later.

What is importent; Don't Give Up.......
You have all the knowledge of WA here to help you out, you just have to ask, and I am sure that someone with more expertice than me will come to your rescue

Thanks for that Marith, & don't worry, I shall never give up! I know what you mean about reading through heaps of stuff & coming across new things that are good for future reference, done that quite a few times! You have already rescued me, along with all the other lovely people here who have cared enough to support & advise me! Feeling uplifted & ready to carry on! :-)

Very happy to hear that. After I wrote my last message to you, I deciede to try to solve my problem once more, and guess what......I manage to fix it !! I am so happy, been dancing around with a big smile all day. Can finally move on, while feeling very proud of myself. It's such a good feeling. I know that will happen to you too. If there is anything I can do to help don't hesitate to ask. Have a nice day

Awesome, I'm glad you solved the issue that was troubling you! My image upload problem has also been fixed thanks to the tech support guys - yay! Thanks again, have a good one!

TheHammer below has given you some great advice. I agree with him wholeheartedly. Everyone starts at 0. 0 knowledge, 0 skill, 0 understanding. You have to give yourself some slack. Whether these others started at 0 here or someplace else, they started just like you. The learning process can be difficult but it is oh, so, worth it. Take a break. You will be fine.
Glenda

Hi Glenda, this is so true, we all start at the zero mark & I just need a reminder of that sometimes! I'm not going to rush myself anymore, just take the time I need. Taking a break sometimes is the key for me! Thanks for your support & much success to you!

Alayne - you are doing fine - we all go through times where nothing seems to go right but as we move on the haze clears and things will fall right into place. Think of what you knew 6 months ago..! I found this neat Wordpress SEO plugin really great for telling me exactly where things need to be changed http://kb.yoast.com/article/119-installation-guide-for-wordpress-seo - maybe that would help you.
All the best and dont give up!!

Hey Lorna, thanks for the link, I shall certainly check it out. Yes, 6 months ago I knew nothing about all this stuff so really I've learnt more than I realised! I just need to quit being in a hurry! I'm back on the horse & not giving up! Thanks again & best wishes to you.

Good for you! :-)

Thanks for sharing Alayne and get it out... Don't hold back till every bit of frustration is out... and then breathe ;)

The journey you are going on is part of the process and one that has been shared by many and many more to come... Which is great thing because it means no matter how little experience you have in this... Out there is someone that has less experience who can learn from you and the more you do this more competence you will get which in turn will bring confidence.

There are 3 kinds of story experts in this world.
1- Reporter/Researcher expert
2- Results expert
3- Role model

Did you know that Napolean Hill who wrote one of the highest selling and successful books on wealth and making it, Think and Grow Rich. Was broke when he wrote that book... He acted as a reporter expert who interviewed the rich people around him.

We all basically start as a reporter/researcher experts, sharing other the knowledge and experience of results and role model experts till we get our own results to share and eventually master to become the role model expert.

Give yourself a year or so to become the expert in your field... Every time you do research, write an article, publish on your site and then share it you become more and more of an expert. Most important thing is take it one step at time and one task at a time and have faith in the process.

You are busy doing it... Congratulations for getting this far!

Very wise words Hammer, thanks dude! I see what you are saying & I will indeed allow myself all the time I need. And yes, getting the frustration out is very therapeutic! Time for me to keep calm & carry on; with the support & advice I've already received here I can't go wrong! Thank you so much & all the very best to you! :-)

It's better to write about your frustrations than to bottle them up. Take a break, go for a walk, just get away from the computer for a little while. Things will start to make more sense as you get further into the training. Tomorrow is another day. ~Marion

You're so right Marion, never be a 'bottler'! I have always found writing out my frustrations helps me move on, nothing like a good purge! I'm sure this is true for many people. I've taken a break away from the computer & indeed it does make a big difference. Thank you so much!

I can totally relate to your situation, I'm in no way an expert on internet marketing. But all we can do is learn as much as we can and try not to sound like idiots when we write about our niche lol. Some people are fast learners, I'm not so it will take me more time to understand things than others who get it right away. Your gonna achieve your goals Alayne, but like me it's just gonna take a little longer Just please don't give up on yourself. You will make it. Best wishes Alayne:)

Thank you so much, it really helps to know others can relate! You hit the nail on the head when you said "all we can do is learn as much as we can and try not to sound like idiots when we write about our niche lol." Yep, I so get that & everything else you said! I won't give up - it takes as long as it takes, I just need to learn patience! All the best to you & your success!

Thank you Alayne, Hang in there. Everything will work out, Best wishes:)

Thank you for sharing zanylayney. Sounds like you like to take good care of yourself and pass it on.

No worries Harold! I do like to take care of my health as much as possible but I'm sure some improvements can be made - starting right now! Cheers!
