Adding Alt Text to Media
So I have noticed this going around my own network about Alt Text for Media. So I looked into it...among other things.
Most media (photos, images..etc) that you upload and add to the media library before you insert into your page has some options in the right hand column.
1. You can add a caption which gives it a border which I have found looks different depending on the theme you have.
2. If you don't add a caption this will also look different depending once again on the theme you have.
3.So try it both ways to see which way you like it or choose to use it both ways.
Then under caption you have Alt text, this is text to describe your media with some select few keywords. If you are using it for a purpose relating to the content in your page where you are posting this media or image, then use related keywords for your alt text. Otherwise just give it a basic image description.
Next you can give it a description, I have not seen any relevance in this as of yet.
Below this is the Alignment which lets you place the image to the left center or right on the page where you want it to appear.
Next it says (Link to) you will want to select none if you do not want this media, image or photo to show as a link. Very important, other wise when visitors hover cursor over the media it will look like a link that is not an actual link.
If it is an actual link then just leave it as is. There are two more options however for custom URL and attachment page to choose from.
These seem to be some of what falls into Google Guidelines from what I understand. Which I did use an alternate source that was helpful, Google's explanations can be a bit difficult to understand if your not extremely tech savvy, but intelligent enough.
So what does the Bot want to find from your site that fits Google Guidelines.
There is a cool tool that I found that works well to show what follows Google Guidelines and what needs some work.

Hope this was helpful, have a wonderful night and enjoy your upcoming weekend!

Hi Kimberly,
Good read! That will allow me to have my webpage tested out from a programmatic standpoint if I can't pinpoint problems out. Have a nice evening.
Mark
I just tried it on my WA site. Cool .. don't know why I never paid attention to it before .. always went right to "Insert" .. thanks again!
Awesome, great job...I did the same thing..sometimes it is useful to stop and take more notice in the screen, that is how some scam artist get many people because they just clicked without looking at it further.
& those links you shared are pretty neat to. A little to tired to really check them out right now, but I bookmarked them for tomorrow. It was really nice of you to share them.
thank you I added those links to my seo folder in favorites.
Also where did you get that great signiture thingy? I like that I want to get one for my site
Happy to help.
The site where I made my signature is: http://cooltext.com/Logos
Very cool! :))
Nice post, Kim. On the positioning, I use it all the time. You can choose if your post is on the left, center, or right, or you can just leave the default which is "none." But if you want test to the right or left of your image you will need to choose right or left. Otherwise the text will go below your image. Just my two cents!
Oh, see its all about the text..for the image...lol, was more focused on other things. Thanks for sharing that....only the obvious gets me!
Thank you girl! :))

Thanks for sharing, Kim. This "stuff" doesn't come naturally to me. I'm used to doing the Alt Text because I had it explained. Some of the other stuff? I'll learn by doing, I guess.
Sounds good Carla! :)) Lots a newbies don't know these things, I was one of them till just recently so, live and learn and teach others well. :))
