I am so lucky, yesterday I went back to my computer and read some feedback for one of my websites, the very wonderful gentleman told me that it might be a good idea for me to add a featured image to all of my posts on my website. This morning, after chores and the rest was done, I sat down to do my featured images and found a load of weird links that had nothing to do with me, so I asked a question, then I got onto site support, then my husband, who was as always on his computer, shouted me over to read this bit of news http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-38930428.

So everyone who reads this, please do not click on the links, it may be malware or a virus.

Otherwise, have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are and take care of yourselves.

Thanks for sharing this warning with us, Steph.

You are very welcome Glen:-))Steph

Thanks so much for this warning Steph. That is scary. Xx

Yeah, Cheryl, it is scary what can happen online, we just need to keep on top of it, and luckily Wordpress and Wealthy Affiliate are a huge help. Update to Wordpress 4.7.2., this is the reason the new update was brought out. Enjoy your Sunday and relax and have fun:-))Steph Xx

I've already done it thanks and you too Steph. Xx

Thank you so much for the warning Steph :)

You are very welcome Chrissie,:-))Steph

Steph, thank you for sharing this vital info.

You are so welcome Louisa, take care my friend and have a really good weekend.:-))Steph

Yeah, the hackers are out recently! I just had my latest blog post on my site completely replaced with some weird graphic and very crude text. Luckily, Wordpress saves a history of updates, so I could revert it (and change the passwords). But I'm so embarrassed for any readers who stumbled upon the foul language that was put there before I caught it.

So sorry to hear about this experience, Kiersten, mine was just weird links, no horrid defacement, have you updated to the new Wordpress, and done this SSL thing. Making our sites as secure as possible has become a big thing in my eyes.:-))Steph

Yes, I made sure to update. I haven't moved my site over to SSL yet as my site isn't transmitting sensitive information at the moment. But once i add any new features that do, I will be sure to. :)

Oh! Forgot to mention that I would take a guess that it was code for an iFrame from Giphy that I copy/pasted into my sidebar. I think that opened my site up to a code injection attack. So that has now been removed.

We really do have to think about so much when we have a website, still, learning as we go is the way to do it I suppose.thanks for letting me know about the sidebar problem, I will stay away from that one.:-))Steph

Hi Steph, thanks for the info. Irv.

You are welcome Irvine, but from what Loes says, if we are https rather than http we should be alright. also, Craig/Labman tells us we should be sure to update to the new Wordpress. Enjoy your weekend.:-))Steph

Thanks Steph. For the heads up.
Jerome

You are very welcome Jerome, we need to stick together against these problems. Have a good weekend my friend.:-))Steph

I read your question about this issue, I couldn't come up with an answer. Are you able to remove those links Steph?

Yes, Loes, that is exactly what I am going to do as soon as site support have got back to me. They wanted definite page addresses so that they could examine the problem, so I am not doing anything till they tell me. According to the BBC, in the last 48 hrs 800,000 sites have been hit. Busy little hackers. Thanks for the comment, take care and have a wonderful Sunday.:-))Steph

I will randomly look through my website too, I hope support comes up with some good news for you, e.g. we have removed the malware :)))

Btw: is your website https or http?

We can but hope that they are able to remove the malware, my website is http, is https a new secure thing I haven't seen as yet.?

Yes, when you have an owned domain name you can shift over to https - secured site
Here is the announcement of Carson When you are going to take this step, know it will take a lot more time than just hit that button.

Thank you Loes, hopefully, this will sort out those nasty little hackers out. I am just trying to be patient with site support at the moment. I am not the most patient of people, I really do just want to remove those links. Hope you don't find any, and thanks for the reading material.:-))Steph

Just started reading this, thank you Loes for giving this to me, I will get on with this as soon as I can, very important, we are so lucky to be here.-Steph

Poor you, take care next time.

Thank you for your kind thoughts Lanu:-))Steph

Oh those pesky hackers. I have a feeling it's time to learn to speak a little Russian and Chinese, anyway. The world is just one big happy global community :-)

Exactly, Hal, we all have our own little number of criminals in each and every country, I was just repeating what the BBC had said in their article. I also just wanted people to be aware, we don't want to upset our public with other peoples malware.:-))Steph
