Because WordPress 5.0 is a major version release, you’ll want to have a proper update checklist in place so the update goes smoothly.

Here it is ...

PS The mentioned premium update plugin is just an example. You can use any free backup plugin.

For example Updraft Plus:

hey hi Zed -- sure, looks easy enough the way you've shown us ... so gold-starred and let's see if gidget here can do it ... lol ...

... and is that a free e-book for download? ...

thanks kindly for all you do here .. cheerio ... 😊

Eagle eye ... As usual ...

No there is no ebook this time :(

... just asking ... it's in your last #7 slide .."Ultimate Guide to WordPress 5.0 ....."

probabbly too techie ... lol ... :)

Wow is this going to be good

Yep :)

I am going to wait 3 Months to download, Just in case their little bugs in it.

Thanks Zed very valuable information, have bookmarked it. Cheers Cass

Thanks Cass!

:):)

Okay, gotta backup. Thanks, Zed.

Thanks YOU!

I've got Updraft Plus which does automatic backups. I'll double check before upgrading. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the time!

Good advice, Z.

The most important thing is to do a complete website backup first which includes absolutely everything.

Tools > Export. only saves text in an. xml file it doesn't save the media, plugins, themes, just text.

Use a good quality backup plugin such as WP Clone or Updraft Plus. And save the file(s) on your computer, not the server.

Thanks for the valuable input Marion!

You'll find my post on this subject at

Thanks to both of you. Bit scary for a newbie but as you've told us not to panic I won't! and instead I will download WP clone tomorrow and learn how to back up as a start.

Thank you, Marion! I did a full backup and updated all in my admin area and thanks God nothing bad happened.

Thank you Marion : )

Thank you Marion for showing us the extra steps needed. We can always count on you. with this type of technical stuff.

Normally it is you and Loes that tag teamed sometimes : (
I miss her already.

Wishing you the best in all you do
Lee Ann

I miss her too 😢

What if I already ran the update?

I've alraedy updated my blog Mark. Everything looks fine ...

So far so good ...

Psst ... And I haven't made any backup before :) Don't tell anybody!

So, I didn't jump the gun as usual? No harm, no foul?

You did ... Just like me ...

We just like to stay "ahead of the curve". lol

Is Gutenberg really a must have if we are using site content to create posts? Not knowing much about it I didn’t know if it was already built into 5.0 or just an add on plug in available if you go 5.0.

Thanks for sharing! I think I'm going to try out the Gutenberg plugin with mine first and see how it goes. I've been meaning to do that, but haven't gotten around to it. This should be an interesting day, lol.

Godspeed!

Thanks, Zed, we are going to try it out on our test website over the weekend. Really excited to see what it's all about.
Colette and Philip

As we all :)

I've already updated my blog and everything ist OK ...

Great to know.

So far so good ...
